Wasn't development hell, it was just a very ambitious mod for so few people to be working on while also still financially supporting themselves and having a life. There have been fairly regularly updates on it and the timespan between them and what was accomplished was fairly reasonable. It's legitimately just taken them this long to get it to this stage. And the reworking over to the New Vegas version the engine was fairly early on when it was still in largely pre development stages. Also the scope of it grew with time and some additional people got on board but never in a losing sight of the original idea kind of way, the project always had the same core ideas, it was just a matter of being able to do more with them with some extra help and some donations. Look at the time Bethesda themselves spent between 3 and 4 and how long they're taking between TESS, and those are fully fleshed out development studios with tons of money and people doing it as their day job. It'll probably just be neat at the end of the day, but I think it's nice to at least support passionate fans who would do something like this. I can already guarantee that it'll have more soul to it than 4 did. It won't end up feeling like a true standalone expansion on the New Vegas world and story but that's understandable given their resources. --- |

Because it's not uncommon for publishers/developers to shut down large scale story mods, fan remakes, remasters, etc. even when they're not selling it or only accepting donations, which this is going to be free but I believe they did accept donations as well. It's stupid to have to worry about it but you do. Generally with something of this size they wouldn't shut it down. They usually do it early on or midway through once it's gaining traction if they care. To take something like this that's been worked on a decade and shut it down before release would open the flood gates to one of the biggest hate campaigns on the internet, and I doubt Bethesda has any desire to be on the receiving end of another one. --- |
