I'm now 10 episodes into megalo box and it really is all style no substance IMO. The style is there. it's good, it makes everything feel great, but nothing ever happens. All the fights are really disappointing and the same storyline plays out with the main cast over and over (omg they can't fight, they're doomed, but maybe with this latch ditch desperate attempt, they can make something happen. Every single time.).

I find the show less compelling cause it can only end 2 ways. One way would be awful and make the whole show garbage and the other way by default is incredibly predictable. I hope at least animation wise the final fight is good.

I'm also up to date on GGO and after the recap episode the animation seems to have taken a turn for the better. Some of the action we got in SJ 2 has actually been really cool. I still say LLENN is actually even more OP than kirito ever was but everyone gives her a pass because she is cute anime grill.

Just finished dragon maid. It was way more directly yuri than I expected which was fantastic. Great show. I'd definitely watch a second season although it did end on a pretty good spot.

EDIT: Also I've dropped stardust crusaders twice now. Definitely liked the first two parts better.

I don't know if this counts as anime related but dauntless which is a free to play monster hunter rip off for PC just launched the open beta. It's clearly inferior to MH but I'm still having fun so far. The launch itself is a train wreck with hour long queues to log in cause I guess it was more popular than they expected but once you get it in it's mostly fine.

The whole marriage thing is such a pain and now i'm just stuck waiting for anna to pop up with another master seal so I can class up MU and get galeforce before proceeding with the story (marrying chrom so lucina and morgan will be beasts).

Yeah ironically one of the games they are targeting is lesbian ghosts, the game they specifically reviewed and said was fine for steam without the need of an uncensor patch. Complete 180 from them. Saw some topics mentioning how some anti porn hardliner group was supposedly behind this. On the other hand I can barely find any information about this at all. To me this makes no sense for steam to do.

I'm quite pissed if this sticks. Pretty sure stuff like witcher 3 isn't being touched, just anime style stuff. I almost wonder if its actually true and not some kind of prank/some steam email got hacked or something. I would expect if something like this were true there would be an official announcement and probably a ton of discussion but I couldn't find shit.

Hinamatsuri has to be the saddest comedy I've ever seen. It really manages to get you down despite making you laugh. I still don't understand why anzu doesn't just use her psychic powers. She had a reason not to at first but that disappeared in like 5 minutes.

Black clover is a shit manga as far as I'm aware but the adaption makes it even worse. I remember several youtube videos about it when it was first coming out. We could change it with golden kamui which is certainly performing under expectations and has some pretty bad cgi. It's not so horrible but I think the first episode was legit bad and killed a lot of hype.

This season has the most confusing MAL scores for me out of any season in recent memory. Generally my opinion lines up fairly closely with MAL scores with some exceptions but this month I just have no idea. Megalo box being an almost 8.5 is crazy to me. Almost nothing has even happened in it. It's not bad exactly just I have no idea why thats highly rated. Tokyo ghoul 3 is another confusing thing. It's pretty awful IMO. I was trying to like it but it feels like poor fanfiction or something. I will note that its score is dropping but its still like 7.85. Then we got new LotGH sitting at just under 7.6 when I expected it to be near a 9 just by name alone. As far as I'm aware it's not a bad remake either but I haven't started watching it myself.

Watched the new eps of megalo box and wotakoi. Not sure how I feel about the megalo box episode. Guess I'll have to wait and see where they go from here. A little strange the guy even bothered tried to avoid fighting Joe, talk about no confidence.

Wotakoi on the other hand is still pretty great. I'll be sad when it ends.

I saw some key animators listed that were supposed to be on that anime I think. No idea if it's accurate or speculation or what.

Watched episode 5 of wotakoi and its the one show from this season that is holding strong for me. It's actually gone in reverse. I thought I might drop it while watching the first and second episode but its gotten steadily better and I enjoy it a lot. It's yet another anime where people play monster hunter briefly and I'm always happy to see it.

Some digging on MAL points to there being big production issues with a few of the GGO:A episodes that already aired getting outsourced. That might explain why the action choreography became awful but who knows.

Also I'm not sure I've heard it brought up here but in my searching for that I came across the fact that promised neverland is supposedly getting an anime. Hearing you guys talk about the manga makes me excited to see it.

Yeah episode 5.5 came out this last week instead of 6 and its just a recap of the first 5 episodes. I can't see why you would possibly do that.

EDIT: Also ugh, I'm not really in the mood for any of the airing anime. I'm an episode behind on almost all of them. I watched megalo box episode 6 and idk. The show has style but I'm starting to feel like it might not have substance. It doesn't fill the whole left by Ippo. The fight despite all the hype build up just felt so weak. I hope hinamatsuri is good this week cause it feels like everything I decided to watch started off so strong but then went downhill. I haven't had cause to drop anything yet but its still a bummer. Darling is still great but I kinda don't feel like just watching the one episode I have to watch. Might wait a week or two and watch a few at a time.

Not sure how to feel about the latest GGO. The fight choreography went from "kinda crazy" to "what the fuck". How the fuck is LLENN missing a full clip of P90 fire at point blank? How did the other people miss so damn much. If they could see their accuracy stats after the game everyone would be sub 10 except M, the only person not using the bullet circle. They went on and on about how useful the bullet circle is but these people can't hit shit. The tactics also went from SWAT to YOLO real fast. I almost feel like a different person wrote the first two episodes.

Still watchable but kind falling short of how I hoped it would go.

Just watched ep 16 of darling. Things are clearly going way too well but they have been the whole time honestly. The feeling I get from this show is that it wants to do something brutal and vicious after building up our attachment to the characters but I really expected whatever that was to have happened by now. Surface level it makes sense that squad 13 will eventually have to stop the council of adults and destroy hringierier or whatever the hell its called probably while also defeating some sort of klax thing. My mind is going according to eva's script though with the instrumentality project and the final angel being humanoid.

We also have the storybook that is clearly supposed to be talking about whats happening. Following that the beast has cast aside her wings. If you actually read the text of the storybook when they showed the whole thing at one point you would know that it ends with the princess almost killing the prince but instead leaving forever leaving the prince heartbroken and depressed. Perhaps zero two could actually become human by killing squad 13 or end up losing what little humanity she has. Of course, if that is the way the story goes I don't really expect the ending to remain the same.

Warning bells are also starting to go off with episode count. We clearly have A LOT of ground to cover and only 8 episodes left. Thats doable but a rushed ending seems very possible. Oh also I'm not sure if miku's hair is actually white or if thats another way the illness they all seem to be getting shows. We know infected children don't become adults so perhaps they die from some kind of rapid aging or deterioration.

Watched ep 5 of megalo box. Still pretty good. Not as good as Ippo though. Not yet anyway.

Still have hinamatsuri and I suppose tokyo ghoul episode 5s to watch.

Almost caught up on darling in the franxx. Kinda bummed at the route they went in episode 14. Felt a bit forced.

It's obnoxious watching ichigo waste her time going after hiro that just clearly isn't interested, although I could see him trying to force it for a few episodes. I also have no understanding of why zero two would have even briefly let them confine her and not just go straight to hiro. It all just feels melodramatic and silly. Poor Goro, being exactly the character I knew he would be within the first like 3 lines of his dialogue. Still surprised they haven't bothered to kill anyone off. At this point Goro's character arc could be considered complete so they could cash him in for some drama to enhance the ichigo hiro nonsense. Kokoro seems like a likely death candidate.

Watched the first 7 eps of darling in the franxx. At first I wasn't really feeling very engaged but it's done better since then. I feel bad for Goro as of now. I feel like I've seen the same type of character in the exact same situation a few times before. I'm also a little torn cause I don't really like zero two or ichigo. Oh well zero two has the better character design and is destined to "win" by virtue of being shown to the audience first (spoilers, the first girl you see virtually always wins).

I kinda feel like the writer just liked that one episode of eva where shinji and asuka have to fight in perfect sync to defeat that one angel and just made a whole show about that episode.

I'm also really not feeling the threat yet. Everything feels like its going a little too well and like this is when they would normally turn things around on you and brutally kill off of a few of the main characters (probably fatty and one of the girls at minimum) so we get that "this shit is serious, don't go goofing around" moment. I actually hope it doesn't happen though cause I hate to think it's really that formulaic.

I'm a Megumin fan as well. Her personality is the most appealing. Sometimes I feel like Darkness's gag runs thin. All the characters are great though. Season 3 never ;-;

In regards to FF1 I can't actually remember it. I know I played it for gba on an emu but I don't remember anything about it. I likely went with a balanced party though.

I just watched what is out of tokyo ghoul 3 and it clearly intends you to have watched season 2 which I did not cause everyone said it was garbage. Oh well, it's a shonen, its still easy to follow even if you start in the middle. It's watchable but I'm really not sure why it's rated so highly. I remember enjoying season 1 more than this. I have a tough time enjoying the fighting in this since the power levels seem so arbitrary and unrelated to the actual action and the choreography is really lazy in parts.

Watched ep 4 of golden kamuy which was fine I guess. It ended right as things got interesting though. Watched ep 4 of Hinamatsuri which was kinda depressing honestly. Watched ep 4 of megalo box which was probably the best of the episodes I saw. Things are finally really getting started in it.

Overall a pretty crap week for the shows I was following. Still rewatching FMP but after getting 13 episodes in my drive to continue is waning. It feels like none of this is what I'm in the mood for. I think sora yori being so quality is making the rest of this stuff feel like junk even if its just fine. It's hard to go back to entertainment after watching something that feels like more than that.

Just watched GGO:A ep 4. LLENN's face at the end in the after the credits scene was pretty great. I can see that image being used for memes. Overall the episode was a little meh cause they spent too much time explaining shit and then reexplaining the same shit. Particularly in regards to manual aiming.

My problem was that they never even attempted anything like that or explained why it wouldn't work. As far as I remember we never even see what happens if you make a wish thats "too strong". You could also always wish for no consequences in part of your wish. Wishing for entropy to not exist would probably have dangerous physics implications.

What happens if you try to wish for infinite wishes or godlike powers or whatever? Did they actually address that? I don't think I've seen one single anime ever even mention such a thing. I know it pissed me off that madoka never did anything like that. You figure kyuubei would just get one of the girls to wish for an infinite and safe energy source and be done with it in one go.

On the anime front started rewatching FMP so I can watch the new season live. It's been about a decade since I saw it the first time. I'm half way through the first season and it holds up pretty well. It's like a silly version of gundam 00 in a lot of ways (child soldier protag, mechs, world peacekeeping unaffiliated organization).

DRRR has a 24 episode first season and then a broken up 3 cour second season. I was counting all 3 cours as seperate seasons since they were released separately.

Anyway I can't believe hinamatsuri had such a long and awesome bartender (anime) reference in episode 3. That was awesome.

Yeah GGO:A is looking to be solid and land of the lustrous is certainly an awesome and unique show. We better get a season 2 of it.

I watched ep 2 of hinamatsuri and it's definitely got a similar comedy style to saiki. The ending of episode 2 wasn't quite what I was expecting but it was hilarious.

I'm not sure if I'll watch LotGH. The original is a contender for my all time favorite anime but knowing that the new one is covering the same story means AT LEAST 60 episodes before it concludes and I should probably wait for then.

Shokugeki no soma will probably be grandfathered into marathon watching for me so I'll hold off till the season is done. BnH on the other hand I might as well watch whenever. I don't particularly love the show as a whole but it's entertaining enough to watch at least.

Might as well watch Stiens;Gate 0, FMP:IV and tokyo ghoul:re. I'm surprised to see tokyo ghoul:re fairing so well with how both anime seasons are looked back on now. I guess I'll find whatever they are doing right soon enough.

I also realized I never finished the newer seasons of DRRR so I should do that. I wasn't very interested in the first part of the new seasons but I heard the other 2 parts were much better and I quite liked the original series.

Problem is...I don't wanna watch things right now. i wanna play games but I can't find anything that I want to play. Frustrating.

Tactics ogre is very similar to FFT. I don't particularly remember it being that hard but it's been a while. Just like FFT:WOTL the PSP tactics ogre has a very compelling story that is somewhat similar. You can also grind like a madman in both games which I very much like. Not being able to grind always stresses me out in fire emblem games which is why I like 8 the best (since you can grind in that one).

I watched eps 2 and 3 of golden kamuy. It's decent enough i suppose. The action is sufficiently brutal but I don't feel like it's taking advantage of animation. I feel like they just copied the manga scenes into the anime. Hopefully that improves. The relationship between the two mains is enjoyable. Suigimoto is pretty well adjusted for someone thats been through such brutal combat.

Thinking more about the GGO thing, I forgot LLENN asks Pito about music and is surprised she doesn't like it. I can see no reason the writer would include that if Pito wasn't the singer. I was kinda hoping they would hit the escapism angle a little harder with the plot set up they have.

As far as golden kamui it was more the story and the characters that didn't sell me. My feeling was why should I care if this guy hunts down this gold and there has got to be a much much easier way to get that woman to an american eye doctor. As for the girl she seemed totally fine not getting revenge so she just doesn't have any real reason to tag along. Like if main guy is willing to murder his way through a band of escaped criminals, just go find regular criminals with lots of money and kill a few them, take their shit, and there ya go. The whole thing could be solved in a weekend with much lower risk. There'd be a lot of manga I'd read before golden kamui (like berserk or vinland saga).

I did realize there is actually another possibility for the singer though. This whole GGO:A thing is supposedly made to promote an upcoming 3rd season of regular SAO. Perhaps the singer could be an important character in that instead. I'm still betting on it being Pito but I can at least see another possibility now.

Watched episode 1 of golden kamui and felt it was ok ish. It didn't really suck me in and make me want to watch any more of it. I probably will watch more cause I know the source material is supposed to be quite hyped up but meh, I'm not really that excited about it.

Alright, I'm doing it. I'm watching shit live. Caught up on megalo box and GGO:A. Nothing much to say about megalo box. It was mostly a set up episode. GGO:A is still going pretty strong. I have to assume the singer kanzaki and the player pito are the same person. I would almost think it could be M as well but the tournament and concert are at the same time so that should be impossible. They've said the singer's name too many times for her not to be important to the plot unless its some kind of crossover with an actual singer but I haven't heard anything like that.

Might go for hinamatsuri next to round out the 3 new series that looked appealing. I'm not sure what I'll do with darling in the franx. So much has already aired I might just wait till the end but I'm not sure. Slowing down after marathoning 15 episodes might really kill the pacing.

Dark souls is pretty great. Even made some videos on dark souls 3. Never played factorio. I wish I could go on a video game binge. My bank account has $1.33 in it and I'm too lazy to figure out how to pirate modern steam games. I did recently play flamebreak, a roguelike. It was fun. 100%d it and everything. I don't even know what the last thing I played besides league was. Video games as a medium has really been letting me down for a while.

I'm honestly considering doing an experiment and watching this season live. Having just nothing to watch for 3 months at a time over and over sucks. I can't help but feel like the impact of a lot shows would be much less for me if I didn't watch it all at once but maybe I can drag out the motivational ones to get more use out of those. Good anime is like medicine for me and I feel like I'm forced to choose between having infrequent doses or doses that are too small to really be effective.

I've only got overlord 2 from last season left now. Overall it was a pretty good season. Of course nothing compared to the current one that is frankly ridiculous. Whats surprising me is that even the new stuff I had no expectations of seems to be good. We got megalo box shaping up to be very good, GGO:A being very watchable and hinamatsuri looks to be really good as well. I'm gonna have like 10 things to watch when this season ends. Especially cause darling in the franx will end at the same time.

I think I cried in almost every episode but I'm a crybaby. I've found that if you put music and anime girls crying together than I really have no defense. Also it was gigguk's video that finally got me to watch the show in the first place. Quality video from the only entertaining active youtuber. RIP demo D+ channel.

EDIT: I just went back and rewatched the gigguk video. Some things in it are even better if you have seen the show and it was nice to see that look back. His opinions are pretty similar to mine and I completely identify with the feeling of being less inspired by anime over time. When I was younger and anime was one of the few things letting me hang on in life there were all these new concepts and ideologies and perspectives that were new and interesting and made me reflect on my own world view and actions. Over time though you kind of get to the point where you feel like you've seen it all before. Every message is one you've already taken to heart at one point or another and it feels so much harder to find something that truly inspires you. I hope anime studios keep finding new ways to inspire me over the coming years. I could certainly use it.

Finished the anime. It was pretty great. I really didn't think I was gonna like it going in but I'm happy I was wrong. For a show that makes you feel so good, it sure got me to cry a lot. I'm sad the show is over. No idea what I'm gonna watch next.

The problem with senran kagura even as games is that its clothing destruction battle WITH censorship so it just kinda pisses you off. The anime should have at least been like queens blade (the other clothing destruction battle anime I can think of). It's kind of a bummer because the concept could easily work.

Been watching sora yori (a place further than the universe) over the last few days. Just finished episode 7. This is a feel good show if there ever was one. It's kind of strange. I enjoy every episode but feel almost no desire to start the next episode after I finish. I'm not really sure why.

I can see why this is so well received though. Going into it I was trying to think of what they would need to accomplish in order for a plot that is frankly stupid to actually work and they managed it nearly flawlessly. At least one of the girls has a very strong reason to go specifically to Antarctica, and the rest have compelling reasons for doing something absurd. They even made the biggest leap a little more believable with the reporter girl. That plotline seemed a bit ridiculous but they managed it pretty well showing how much the expedition was hurting for money that you can start to believe something this crazy might actually happen.

The music fits really well and gets right ya in the feels when something works out and they play that one track. I also really like the first 3 seconds of the opening where the camera is upside down and kimari flips it.

Just watched the first ep (of GGO:A). It was decent. I'll watch it when it finishes. Part of me can't help but feel like the strat they used at the end was utterly stupid though and that with those advantages they could have used much much more efficient strategies to win. I can't imagine an open street intersection provides any advantage to a speed based close range fighter. The sniper should have had a field day though with no cover anywhere nearby.
