I make $5,416 a month before taxes and live in the metro area in MN.

After taxes, rent, expenses, etc., it's really not that much. Sure I'm not strapped for cash, but it's definitely not the "easy mode" I thought it would be.

I also though it was much better than Moonlight, and Moonlight winning Best Picture is a fucking joke.

Of the BP nominees so far (I'm hoping to get to all of them), I've only seen Get Out, Darkest Hour, and Call Me By Your Name. I'd rank them in that order, as well.

Moonlight I thought was decent, but shouldn't have won BP. Of the nominees last year, I thought Manchester by the Sea was by and far the best film.

I would, at least. In the beginning of the film, Oliver knew it wasn't a good idea, but eventually went along with it anyway. I'm not saying it was nonconsensual, but it did give me a weird feeling.

Who knows, though. I'll probably try and see the film again in a week or two if it's still playing near me to see if my attitude changes.

True. I guess I've always had this notion that landlords couldn't give less of a shit once you move in because you're locked into the lease unless something egregious comes up. I'll start logging when I notice it and them know at the end of the week or something.

You're worried about stepping on toes but failing to realize one simple thing, here- you're the customer. If you're pissed off about something the landlord needs to sort it out or else you're leaving when the lease ends. Tell the landlord this guy is blasting bass and you want it to end, immediately.

But why should they care? I'm still locked in for the entire year unless I want to jump through the hoops of breaking the lease, and even then they're still squeezing money out of me.

Exactly. Having a phone number to call when something goes wrong instead of having to deal with it yourself is the entire point of renting.

Fair enough. Only issue is that it tends to happen after the leasing office closes, and I don't think it's a big enough deal to call the emergency number for. Maybe I'll just tip them off about it earlier in the day and hope they look into it \_()_/

So I moved into my first apartment a couple weeks ago, and ever since, I've heard this bassy thumping in my living room, and after standing outside my neighbor's door and my upstairs neighbor's door, I couldn't tell where it was coming from. I started to look into "The Hum" and started to wonder if I was going nuts.

Then finally tonight I had the idea to check downstairs, and sure enough, one floor down from my next-door neighbor, I could hear sub bass clearly through the door. It's so heavy that it's travelling up and over. I get it, I like watching movies and stuff too, it's why I got so pissed, but this is a bit much.

The reason I'm making this topic is because I'm not sure where I should go first. Should I talk with this tenant about it, or should I go straight to the landlord? I'm not good with this stuff; apartment living isn't for SuperGamer.

Yeah it's easily the biggest purchase you'll make in your life.

The trick is not living in an expensive apartment so you can actually save money. People shit on living with your parents for awhile but I moved back after college until 24 (still paid my parents to live there of course) and it made a world of difference. Saved so much, then moved to an apartment after having an actual savings point, then the house purchase wasn't too bad. My wife did the same thing so down payment wasn't a problem.

This would have been my ideal scenario, but the job I ended up getting was an 80-mile drive one-way from my parents place. I did it for almost two months, but it was hell.

Maybe I just need to sleep on it. Honestly, I thought the ending was incredible and really allowed me to put the rest of the movie in a larger context, but there was a lot of the "rest of the movie" that I thought meandered way too much.

I kinda fucked up buying my ticket though, and I wonder if it impacted my enjoyment of the film. I'd never been to this theater before and I bought my reserved seat online, and the seating layout looked really fucked up, like all the seats were off to the side except for row C, the frontmost row. I figured with it being C, it would be a decent way away from the screen. Nope, it was right next to the screen, so I was reclined back and still looking at a weird angle.
