Most guys I know who waited too long do regret it though. And what is this about debt? I never went into debt because of my kids. College set me back, I have my car and house payments but kids are just an added expense I enjoy having. If you assume things like fire fighters, police, etc cost roughly the same per household, then a couple living in the same one has marginal additional costs. As for why it wouldn't be extended to people who co-habitate, it was probably an issue of just drawing the line somewhere that's easily proveable. A marriage license held by the state is a pretty good way to prove it. You actually are not far from correct. Married couples are less risk takers and are less risk to the govt too so they pay less. You realize how some brothers never grow up and are the same assholes from college. My frat was a toxic nightmare imo. Encouraged excessive drinking, which led to bad decisions. By my senior year myself and a lot of other senior brothers only went to functions I was forced to. Honestly, you want networking and brotherhood? Join the military.
