Ironically, you think I'm bad at reading people because you yourself believe you're good at reading people which is another projection, hence why you felt the need to fill in unnecessary gaps in OPs question and how it ties into OPs life.

I striked up a convo today asking if she wanted to play games online at some point and she said sure. We talked about random stuff but it seemed slightly one sided. I got bored of trying to lead it somewhere or trying to have a full on conversation about her life, who knows why. I think I'm just bored of the whole process. Why put more effort in than I'm seeing come out. Economics bitch. I don't care about digging into a deep conversation unless I'm getting green flags that the other person is truly interested in talking.

I think if she was more proactive instead of reactive, I'd be more into it, but talking to someone that's just reactive is boring for me now.

Question is,

1. Is this normal for it to be more one sided initially, since I'm the guy and generally have to be the ones to put more baseline effort in the beginning stages?
2. Am I getting more mature / lazy / less confident over time assuming this person doesn't really feel like talking to me if I feel like I'm doing most of it?
3. I can already tell she might not be into it?
4. I'm convincing myself she's not into it?

I also wanna say that, this is the first FG I've played where I've legitimately thought "I have no idea what is happening right now" because there is just so much chaos, which is awesome. Even a lot of other high chaos anime fighters, even though I think "woah, there's a lot of crazy mechanics going on here!", it's never enough to fully baffle me. But this game is hard to follow in a really good way.

Your only said your complaint was with watching people do it. I'm simply explaining why other people do the same combos over and over. If your complaint is that DOING the same combos over and over is boring, then, you always have the choice to switch up your combo.

Also again, a large part of it is that the way you start your combo and what kind of positional advantage you have AFTER the combo is over is a ton of variance in itself, and this game has a lot of ways to do that.

Generally combos serve two overall purposes.

1. Get the most damage off of a hit, and/or
2. Get a positional advantage off of a hit

You only ever need a few combos. Why would I go for my own creative low damage combo when I could just do the one that has the most damage? Basically what I'm trying to say is that people will always do the most efficient/optimal thing over time. Tekken has loads of juggle freedom but you're only going to see the same combos because people want the best damage and positioning they can get, since they're trying to win.

The fact that people are doing the same combos was going to happen later if not sooner. Thanks to the internet, we can share what the most efficient combo is and everyone can sit at home and practice it. If this came out pre-internet, or arcade era, you'd get loads of combo variety, but only for the simple fact that people shared information way slower. Eventually it would reach the point where everyone is doing the same combos.

The game has a lot of variety in neutral game, which is my main draw with it. In other words, even if the combo is the same, the way you set it up is really dynamic, and the best part is that you can find more interesting and creative ways to set it up due to the instant tag mechanic.

I'm personally waiting until I can snag it used from Gamestop. That way I have plenty of time to give it a real go, and if I don't like it, return for full refund.

I don't have a PS4 so I only get 2 hours until a refund.

Regardless, I know I'll like it. I also play FGs competitively, so it'll have a long(er) lifespan.

I've always thought the gameplay seemed super interesting, and now that I played it and watched a lot of it, it IS super interesting. It seems like a super fun game for me to theory craft and experiment in. However, I hate everything besides the gameplay. I hate the lack of other cool comic book content, I hate the roster, I hate that so many assets were reused from MvC3, I think it's the worst looking MvC game to ever come out, and I hate the scummy DLC practices.

So what should I do? Should I buy it when I know I'll enjoy it? Or should I vote with my wallet and just not get it and stand up against bad practices?

It's good but not good on its own. Some condiments are just good on their own. Like, I could have ketchup, ranch, blue cheese, some mustards alone, but mayo is not good on the own.

Technology is simply a multiplier. It enhances both the positive and negative. I've definitely had moments where I think the use of pure online socialization is dumb, but I've definitely needed that crutch myself. It's ironic that you're posting about this issue on an online forum, sort of like the "nerd" argument on GameFAQs, in other words, you having this message on this platform is ironic in itself and in some ways shows you need the crutch too. Ideally you'd only discuss this with your IRL friends but you too feel the need to have some sort of socialization behind a monitor to anons, the same thing you're condemning.

The only thing I reject social media for is that it gives everyone some grandiose importance to themselves. People don't have to deal with other types of people because they never have to. I hardly ever feel the need to share much on social media. I just comment on other stuff as if it's another online forum or chatroom, but with people I actually recognize.

I think it's actually a little interesting that they're so attracted to each other, in like a genetic/evolutionary sort of way. They probably seem "familiar" to each other. Combine that with being complete strangers otherwise and you have a different kind of attraction.

Games require you to be good enough to get through them. Watching someone play is like you experiencing it without feeling any of the weight of learning and trial-and-error. I think that's what it is. It's like the laziest form of playing a game.

I personally don't really get it either. I like watching fighting games (mainly because I play them) and speedrunners. Some of these people have likable/watchable personalities and it can be fun watching them do other shit sometimes. And I wont lie, sometimes I'll tune in to a hot girl streamer.

I do however like streaming for other people. I get the fun of playing the game and I get to talk to people about it.

Immortality would be a fucking nightmare. Everyone you ever know or care for will die for all eternity until you're literally the only thing left until the Earth explodes. And then what? You're floating in space forever, unable to breath or eat. Let's not forget the possibility that you get trapped in rubble, water, lava, etc. You might not think the chances are likely, but you being around forever make those chances really high (if not guaranteed). Same thing with imprisonment. What if you serve a life sentence? What if you are just kept in a chamber forever? What if people discover your immortality and hold you captive forever, doing all sorts of experiments?

You have to understand that as a living thing, the only thing that's guaranteed is death. Obviously you should take practical measures to make sure that it happens later, like eating healthy and staying out of crazy danger, but there's no reason to fear it in an existential way. It's like fearing that your DVD player's lens will burn out so you just never watch any movies.

It was a relatively good and fun watch, but I don't get the praise. I thought the racial themes were kind of shallow and a little too obviously thrown in ("OMG he went for a handshake instead of a pound, there's just clearly something wrong with him!!"). I feel like if they really wanted to keep the theme consistent, he should've gotten arrested at the end and she would have gotten away. That's what the ending alluded to and I think would've been better and much more effective than any of the other racial messages the movie had.

I thought it was pretty good. Really good main cast and character arcs. It's not scary, but it doesn't have to be. I feel like the movie captured that feeling of kids being afraid; it doesn't necessarily mean that the movie itself has to be scary.

It also had a great ending with them each truly getting over the fear for a greater cause. You see that each kid becomes less afraid not of Pennywise but of their life scenario (whether it's bullies, getting over dead sibling, germs, abusive dad, etc), and when they get over that part of their lives, Pennywise no longer has an effect on them. It's also about sticking together and how they all help each other overcome their biggest fears simply by being together.


Also, that projector scene was actually pretty creepy.
