So what are people thinking for game of the year now the big contenders are all out? Excluding PUBG I think Zelda, Mario, Cuphead, Nier and Horizon are locks for the top ten, Destiny 2 will probably show up in there as well. The other four (maybe three) spots are anyone's guess. What a year.

You might be right, but with X there was a steady slow stream of updates over more than two years. With this it has been such a short time with fairly few big updates (at least in the west) so that might be it. The reveal certainly had more hype than any point for the other two I think. It certainly got more views!

Speaking of politicians being absolutely clueless and not admitting fault, I kind of want to bring up the Universal Credit stuff that's happening in the UK.

Basically it's a system the Tories have tried to bring in that replaces all different kinds of benefits with a single payment. Sounds pretty straightforward right? The issue is it disproportionately affected certain people, sudden job losses, people with disabilities, people in abusive homes, and left them destitute. And because the payments are monthly with a six week wait to the first payment, this would leave some very poor people in rent arrears or depending on food banks to eat. So that's bad. So to top it all off, the helpline for this system designed for the very poor had a massive charge attached to it.

So needless to say, a lot of people were not happy about this. Labour suggested scrapping the helpline charge, the government did it with no fuss. Labour then put forward a motion to pause introducing the system entirely, and the government abstained from voting entirely, rather than be seen to vote for or against their own terrible system. So the pause passed 299-0. This is kind of like the Obamacare repeal defeat except if the Republicans hadn't even bothered to vote on it. Effectively we have a government that is totally incompetent but also so weak it can't even defend its own policies. All this in the middle of a massive crisis like brexit. We should at least be thankful that the Tories are so weak they can't do too much damage!

Anyway, back to Trump time.

They account for digital in the article. It would be a 40% drop even with a substantial increase in digital downloads. Also, it's available on two fewer platforms, soon to be one.

Destiny 2 won't make the top 3 worldwide, easily. PUBG, CoD, Battlefront, Pokmon, Mario, should all sell more.

Just to get into the numbers a little, Destiny sold 6.3 million month one. These numbers would suggest around 3 million sales, which is also worse than the first month sales of Breath of the Wild and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I'm not too concerned about the box office. It seems to be holding well (very good Monday and Tuesday, Sunday beat expectations) and it did well internationally.

However, much more importantly, it's going to go down as a classic. It is looking at a bunch of Oscar nominations likely including Best Picture and - hopefully - a cinematography win. How much money it makes shouldn't affect people's enjoyment of this great film.

But is it the best in the Ryan Gosling wears a sweet jacket, learns what it means to be a real human being (and a real hero), rams somebody off the side of the road before drowning them, then has an ambiguous possible death scene duology?

You seem to have missed the point here. It's that illegal guns and no legal guns is not an issue.

Additionally anecdotal evidence is one thing, but the US has over 31,000 gun deaths per year and the UK has about 120. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

The fact is, America's gun laws are absurdly lax. An assault weapons ban would still give you more access to gubs than the vast majority of the world, and would hurt very few. It seems quite straightforward.

Basically, from what I've learned speaking with gun owners, the term "assault weapon" is highly nebulous and largely meaningless. For instance, one popular way of implementing it effectively wound up doing nothing more than banning a certain style of grip that some owners preferred.

Which is why I would argue having a comprehensive gun registry, mandatory background checks, and waiting periods (also: one of the best ways to prevent suicide by gun!) are both more effective and more practical measures that could be put in to place.

This is exactly what I'm saying. Very small changes could have a big impact. But I don't think broader bans are all that impractical. Many countries have implemented such bans including big ones. Certain weapon types have been banned with positive results. It can be done.

By the way, the Daily Mail should be taken with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to anything to do with politics or terrorism...

The silly thing about the climate change argument is that people who deny it always use it to argue against clean and renewable energy and in favour of fossil fuels, despite the fact that the environmental damage from those energy sources goes well beyond just climate change, like the effects on the oceans, for instance. What it all comes down to is money, of course.

We should also probably talk about the Catalonia situation. Pretty bad stuff going on there, crazy to see police violence like this in a European country. Spain is handling this the absolute worst way and playing into the separatist's hands. At the same time, the Catalan government is also pushing forward an illegal referendum (even under Catalan law) that mandates secession in two days if successful. So it is inevitably going to get ugly.

Well, ARMS got a positive response so I don't know where you're getting that from, but even discounting that, yes. Splatoon 2, Snipperclips, Mario + Rabbids, and plenty of multiplatform games including Breath of the Wild.

Anyway, the system is great so far, the portability is a huge boon for console games. The UI is great and the early games lineup has been very string. It needs some functionality improvements like video streaming, but as a gaming system it's great.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best game I've played for it (having played Breath of the Wild on Wii U), I never got the DLC and this version is the best game in the series. The ports have been good from what I've seen. Nintendo's two first party ports (MK8D and Pokken) are substantial improvements over the originals. Third party ports mostly seem good, it's the best place to play Sonic Mania for instance.
