Macklemore has promised to 'go harder' when performing Same Love at this weekend's rugby grand final in Australia

Seattle rapper Macklemore has criticized a petition that calls for him to not perform his marriage equality hit 'Same Love' at a rugby league grand final in Australia.

Macklemore is flying to Australia for a one-off performance at Sunday's National Rugby League (NRL) grand final.

The NRL grand final is one of the country's biggest sporting events with an expected TV audience of about 4 million people.

He is set to perform four songs during the pre-show entertainment, including his 2012 hit Same Love. The song went to number one in Australia and called for marriage equality to be legalized.

The performance comes at a time when Australia is in the middle of a postal survey on same-sex marriage.

But some people including a former rugby league player and former Prime Minister Tony Abbott don't want the song performed. They claim it politicizes sport and they want to 'remove LGBTIQ politics out of the awesome sport of Rugby League'.

Macklemore's having none of it

Macklemore is not interested in their protests and has vowed to play the song no matter what.

'I'm actually going out to Australia to perform at kind of the Super Bowl of their rugby league,' he told US radio show, The Cruz Show.

'And it's interesting actually cause I'm gonna play 'Same Love' and they're going through trying to legalize same-sex marriage in Australia.

'So I'm getting a lot of tweets from angry old white dudes in Australia. Today I think there is a petition to ban me from playing.

'It's interesting times in Australia and I'm heading on a flight over there later tonight.

'I'm gonna go harder, I'm going to love.'

Bizarre thing to say

Meanwhile in Australia, the fight over Macklemore's performance has gone in-house.

Attorney-General and marriage equality support, George Brandis, hit out at his colleague, Tony Abbott's comments. Brandis pointed out that Abbott said legalizing same-sex marriage would impact free speech in Australia. But banning the song's performance does encroach on free speech.

Speaking on an ABC breakfast news program, Brandis proved he was well versed on Macklemore's back catalog.

'It is one of his most popular songs, and for Mr Abbott or anyone else to say that it should be banned I think is a bizarre thing to say,' Brandis said.

'I thought Mr Abbott believed in freedom of speech.'

Yeah, the "issues". Police brutality, which less than 1% of black and white people experience a year, communist dictators, and "cops are pigs" (as attested to by Colin's favorite socks and shirts).

It's actually about much more than police brutality.

Like how scientists kneeled because they saw the institutionalized racism at play in their own workplace.

Black people are fed up with how they're treated in this country in general.

The right will reach for anything to stop the protest. I'm concerned that we won't make any progress anytime soon because of conservatives. These people are holding our country back and are repeating the mistakes of the past. Not surprising when people like Trump and Pence never genuinely cared about black history.

Lol for my birthday two years ago she wanted to buy me a desk chair. So my sister took her and I shopping at Office Depot.
