because the pats were losing and were at risk of finishing a half without a touchdown.

the immediate calling the play dead on the fumble return was a huge game changing call as well. that's a touchdown that they potentially took away. no one was catching him. He was rolling ontop of the pats player so i don't think he was down, but I haven't seen a good replay that showed that aspect.

it was 9 penalties, 3 pre snap. the delay of game was close, brady probably gets the full second at 0, but it's inexcusable for it to be that close coming out of a timeout. the only really bad call was the DPI on Boye. It was defensive holding at worst. Beyond that it was just the pats were getting away with what the jags were being called for. The other DPI was DPI and should be called, but when the pats committed DPI it wasn't. Both teams were getting a lot of leeway with holding.

Except they didn't they commited 3 dpi that would have been called, and were called, on the jags. The refs were the best player on the pats. They allowed the pats to grab the jags, while the jags couldn't breathe on the pats.

Which has what to do with the refs deciding the game? Injuries happen in the NFL. The hit was correctly penalized. While the pats got away with 3 dpi calla that the jags didn't. Any one of those calls changes the result of the game.
