Anyway sorry if going to the uncomfortable territory, but how do you plan to help her with bullying and stuff later in teenage years?

Probabky just my cynical nature toward everything, but teenage girls are usually ruthless in that aspect, especially when they figure out the value of their beauty >_>

I don't know about bullying, I was bullied all my life so all I can tell her is what it's like to be a nerd who got picked on all through school. :)

My friend's daughter gets bullied too and she is a paraplegic.

So we'll talk about it when we get to that bridge.

I haven't 100% it yet, but I guess about 30-40 hours to get 100 percent achievements to master the AI.

What did you do to win it? Upsell the most worthless shit to consumers?

If I wanted to do that, I'd sell Hasbro/EA games. :)

Our staff doesn't really make recommendations that often. 90% of the time its a customer coming in saying "do you have Betrayal at House on the Hill" and games sell themselves.

The only upsell stuff would be sleeves, deck boxes, and broken token inserts, but we don't really upsell it. again, it sells itself.

I do avoid carrying any low quaility product, i.e. Munchkin, Killer Bunnies, Monopoly, Exploding Kittens. But customers want it, so I won't tell them they are bad games.

You come to the first "real" game. You got your team, now its time to face your first opponent. Then this music kicks in:

Its a wonderful GET DUNKED ON tune. As a commenter puts it, its a strings v drums showdown. The fast pace compared to the previous slow songs get your heart pumping, such a great way to enhance a player's entry into the game!

Yeah let's be weird this time. I'm only going to review the tunes on a game soundtrack for Pyre.
As odd as it sounds, some of the music will have minor spoilers for the game. Name another game where the music spoils the game?

First up: Surviving Exile.

Ever play a visual novel and hear a tune so chill it distracts you from reading? Dat base. Dat pause right before the "badala-doo". That constant beat. What a way to introduce the player to the Downside, fitting the tone of being stranded in a wasteland.

Today's fun tidbit: Darren Korb had the music before the game started to be formed. It helped inspire artists to draw based on the music.

If you are into programming, I recommend the MSG2 special features.

Its amazing what they could do with so little.

For example, the PS2 only has 4MB of ram. So they showed how they allocated it all (1.5 MB worth of graphics could only be displayed at one time, amazing how they could make it look that good).

They also were forced to go from building their prototype levels out of legos to 3D software due to the complexity of the maps.

Kojima told one of his staff "when snake knocks on the girly poster I want is to make a boing sound". The staff member was shocked Kojima wasn't just joking when he came back and asked if it had been done.

Card strategy:

https://opinionatedgamers.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/pic2677336.jpg

Alexander the Great: Great if you plan on early colonies or early aggression. Keep in mind the +1 bonus does not work on colonies. His political ability I don't like as I'd rather play an event/aggression than get a yellow token, plus you don't get a civil action back since you aren't replacing him. It can be good though if you just ignore military towards the end of age I.

Pyramids: I love the pyramids. But I only tend to take it if I see an Engineering Genius card (2 less wonder stage) in the card row. I try to finish this after building my 2nd lab.

Ravages of Time: This is a no brainer if I have the library of alexandria, hanging gardens, or Colossus. Best if your opponents have the Pyramids or Taj Mahal.

William Shakespeare: For new players, just know this is in the deck! You need to do preparation in Age I, so its difficult to pick him. But boy if you can pull it off, it can be a game winner! Consider at the start of Age I if you plan to do a library/theater combo.

Einstein: his science bonus is not a big deal. I do love the culture booster for tech though. If you have a high science game, you can get 15-21 culture, which is what you would get from an Age III wonder! Definitely worth it if you are churning 10+ science per turn.

More leaders:

https://opinionatedgamers.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/pic2686348_lg.jpg

Julius Caesar: doesn't look good, but that extra military action is great int he early game! That alone should be worth it. The double political action will mostly be used to quickly empty the A event deck, especially if you have a military lead for age I strength events. Better yet, play two aggressions at once forcing your opponent to use all their military defense ;)

Napoleon: If you haven't played the 1st version of TtA, Napoleon got a HUGE debuff. He used to double your army tactics bonus. That was too OP. But I like this ability more as it encourages diversifying, something you don't normally do in TtA.

http://gfbrobot.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/TTA-Unfamiliar-Leaders-300x225.jpg

Late game leaders:

- Bill Gates: not my frequent pick. Best if you had low mine and high lab yield, better if you had Leonardo Da Vinci as your last leader. You'd probably be more concerned with culture than production in the late game. Gates is even better if you can grab him as a last turn leader for easy culture.

- Sid Meier: I think its great, exchanging culture for science! I will usually pick up Sid over Bill unless I am doing the above.

- Chaplain: Self-explanatory, if you worked on theaters, get Chaplain. Easy as that. The two free happiness though can be good to save you a lot of time building temples or arenas even if you have no theaters.

some more TtA "git gud" tips:

- Discontent workers aren't bad. There are only 1 Age I event and 2 Age II events that hurt discontent workers. So don't feel obligated to fill your happiness all the time.

- Look at your food/production first, don't always look at the card row first.

- Declare war on another player when they lose their leader next turn (due to a new age starting) if their leader gives a military buff, like Genghis, Napoleon, or Joan of Arc.

The game in question is Through the Ages app, came out Thursday.

My username is "kerred" if anyone wants to play on it.

$10, full game, no microtransactions, sid meier's civ, turn based strategy.

For those who want to git gud quick:

- the most common first move, the e5 of chess if you will, is grow population first, then build a mine.

- the most common second turn move is to build a lab. this does mean a discontent worker and mission out on an event that builds a free warrior/temple, but like most Civ games, early science production is huge.

- you may be tempted to increase farm production early, but is not always neccessary.

- stick to your plan. If you started a library, consider library focus the rest of the game and leaders that give library bonuses.
