Song of One Hundred Sixty-Four Days Ago: Zappa Plays Zappa - Watermelon in Easter Hay (bootleg)

This was used as a sample song for the concert on the Palais des Beaux Arts site. Beautiful composition, obviously, but I'm not in love with this particular version. First of all, Dweezil pretty much just plays Frank's solo from the studio version note-for-note. I've looked up a different Zappa Plays Zappa verison of "Watermelon" and Dweezil does the same thing there, so apparently this was standard procedure for ZPZ performances of this tune. Perhaps Dweezil thought it was disrespectful to "compete" with his father's iconic solo with a solo of his own, but I don't know, I'd rather hear Dweezil create something new over this vamp. Second of all, I don't like the drumming; it's too plodding. But it's always nice to hear "Watermelon," and the video quality is fair, so...

Yesterday Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever The F@%K He Wants played at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels. I looked up the description of the band at their site and I'm positive I've read it before and posted a translated version of it in one of the Zappa topics. Apparently it's some standard text that several venues use.

for what it's worth, i do agree with ulti that posting #metoo isn't necessarily courageous. like, i'm sure there are some women who just jumped on the bandwagon because some dude at a bar called them hot once.

saying it doesn't take courage for jennifer lawrence to admit to the entire planet that she was assaulted at age 15 because "it's not costing her her job" is fucking disgusting, though.

at the very least it takes courage to tell someone you've been sexually assaulted or raped, yes.

one of the things i hate most about this subject is the "WHY DIDN'T YOU SPEAK OUT EARLIER" victim blaming that always comes up. it's like people don't realize that for a lot of people talking about traumatizing experiences is incredibly difficult.

i listened to this on spotify because the YT video didn't work for me. i'd heard of the fratellis before but i'd never listened to them. i liked the melodies and the piano focused sound in this. a minor complaint is that i don't like the extremely simple, plodding drumming - i'm sure that was a deliberate choice but it didn't work for me. good song overall, though.

i love some disney songs but i've never been a big fan of this one (i'm sure that's an unpopular opinion among disney aficionados). but all the bells and whistles this version was dressed up with made it enjoyable for me. though occasionally i think they were having a little too much fun - all the quotes from other disney songs seemed kinda fanservicey to me. but yeah, this was cool. hope you enjoyed the musical!

Read more closely. Dems are complaining that this will "unfairly" increase the amount of taxes paid by high-tax states.

Well if you don't want to pay a lot of taxes, don't be a high-tax state!

eh, "democrats are hit hardest" is kind of misleading, though. you can say democrat leaning states are hit hardest but i'm sure there are plenty of non-dems living in those states who would be hit hard as well.

but uh yeah, obviously if you're in favor of high taxes you should be ok with people paying high taxes. if dems are really complaining about that that's really stupid. unless the tax rates get way higher than the dems ever wanted now or something.
