Finished the book. Was fantastic. Not sure if quite as good as WoR, but on the same level. Definitely better than WoK.

Worst part of the book: Maya didn't fully awaken ;_;

For a while there I was really afraid that Adolin was going to die and Shallan was going to end up with Kaladin. So happy that that didn't happen. Shallan x Adolin is an infinitely better pairing.

It feels like a bunch of scenes of Kaladin and Shallan talking got cut. Them both realizing they didn't really like each other despite never interacting in a way that hinted at it felt way off to me. But hey maybe it will come back up later

Kaladin did like Shallan. He just got over her, and accepted that they could be friends. Shallan was attracted to Kaladin, just not as much as she was attracted to Adolin. I'm not seeing what would've been cut.

Yeah Maya better wake up next book she came so close this one.

It felt like both Kal and Shallan came to those decisions too quickly to me. It felt like they were made for the sake of the plot rather than being made because they were honestly decided on.

Kal was born with depression. Lopen's arm might not have been fixed if it was how he came out of the womb.

Maybe Renarin's eyes would be a better example then.

Just brought up that part since Lopen was able to regrow his arm, which was obviously a very old disability.

It might also be whether it was something they were born with.

Yeah, that's fair. They did kinda mention that with Regrowth too, how old wounds are a lot harder to heal. He did say he was hoping the Stormlight would cure his darkness though, so it's not like he wants to keep it.

I don't think hoping it would be cured is the key. I think it's going to take him realizing it is a genuine wound he has.

One thing that kind of gets me is that Stormlight doesn't cure Kaladin's depression. We know it can cure brain damage, so is Sanderson depression is an entirely mental problem with no physical component? Same with various characters' addictions.

It appears to not heal, rather heal based on like... expectations.

Kal views his depression as part of himself, just like he views the brand, therefore they aren't healed.

Or at least that's how I took it.
