Schools shouldn't be pushing anything. Give people the opportunity to make their own choices. I went to college, decided I wasn't comfortable with the amount of money it costs since I still wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do. Drove a semi for a couple years to save up cash before going back for HVAC. I couldn't be happier. Currently making about 90k a year in a rural area where the average houshold income is about half of that, and I can comfortably get a job anywhere in the country. Working a blue collar job that is "below" so many people is going to allow me to retire with a lake house by the time I'm 50 assuming everything continues according to plan.

I highly dislike them. They ride their buggies on 55mph roads after dark and are frequently a hazard when you crest a hill to see a slow moving black object in your lane. Their horses leave shit in the road which is also a road hazard for motorcyclists. Theyre frequently hypocrites who will gladly ask to borrow your 4x4 or other technology whenever its convenient for them. They play dumb and use their perceived ignorance as an excuse to their advantage quite often.

And Im only going off of my own personal experiences, so thats not to mention the numerous problems within their community.

Early/mid 2000's Gary fisher Marlin. Not too bad when a $400 bike can hold up for nearly 20 years. Not my photo but its the exact same bike, paint and all.

TopicWould you ever fly in a kit plane someone built?

I have flown in two of them. As long as they're put together by someone knowledgeable and get properly inspected, they're perfectly safe.

My dad was an aircraft mechanic so he knew multiple private pilots and people involved in aviation to varying degrees. When I was younger I wanted to be a pilot so I was always offering to detail their planes or do whatever little side work if they'd take me up and let me fly a bit. I never ended up getting my license but I got to go up in all sorts of little planes here and there throughout my teenage years.

one of my earliest memories is pouring salt on slugs....it has nothing to do with toads but I thought it was worth sharing. It's right up ther with thinking my cat gave birth to hampsters, and being so scared of being left alone that I ran through a glass door and had to have glass shards picked out of my eye lids with tweezers. I only have a handful of core memories before 5yrs old and these are right up there.

When I was in highschool I forgot to lock the passenger door so someone went through the my car and stole the head unit and rummaged through my glove box. But never notice any door dings or damage. For a town with a very low crime rate, that one incident taught me to make sure all my doors are locked even in a relatively safe area. In the grand scheme of things, the head unit was not worth shit, but super annoying to not have a functioning radio for a few weeks.

The durango is a gas hog but I have a work vehicle that I drive daily so it's not a big deal, plus it works as a tow vehicle which I needed. It helps that it was meticulously well maintained so it looks and runs like new despite being 22 years old and just over 100k miles. I'd still like a better handling little car in the near future.

TopicDo any of you own or have ever owned a radar detector?
dodgefan91
05/11/23 8:42:48 PM

Cheap ones aren't worth it. They're either overly sensitive and you'll get false hits so often from automatic doors, vehicles with adaptive cruise control, etc that you'll eventually tune it out and stop slowing down. Or, it wont be sensitive enough to pick up when they hit cars ahead of you and instead only goes off when they're already looking at you.

Quality ones are a few hundred dollars and work pretty well. But so few places still use radar that it's no guarantee. If they're shooting laser (which most police departments are nowadays) you're borderline too late by the time it goes off. You might be able to hit the brakes before they get a solid lock but you honestly have to have quick reflexes and they'll still lock in a number, just slightly lower than what you were doing before you hit the brakes. I find that using waze and just going with the speed of traffic +5mph is good enough 99% of the time.

I stopped running detectors nearly 10 years ago. With lazer, it's not worth the money for a good one when I only get a ticket once every half a dozen years anyways.

Still need to lose about 20-25lbs though. Currently 5'10" 195lbs, would like to be in the low 170's. 200 is always my "oh shit" number.
