No, my reading comprehension is fine. People who don't care either way that you can choose pronouns are not going to care that you can choose pronouns. Someone who genuinely doesn't mind it is not going to be bothered by one extra selection screen. It's only people like yourself who dislike it that care.

And I'm being nice here by not questioning you on why you dislike it or call not misgenderong people "ideological favoritism"

Those friends were actually part of their own separate comic strip. I don't remember how they got combined with the TV show. As we all know Jim Davis mostly just draws Garfield.

I was always confused why the cartoon was so musical though. I liked that aspect, but idk how it fit in with the comics at all

U.S. Acres was the strip, and it was another Jim Davis comic strip but it's been over for ages now.

But I acknowledge I'm in the minority. I hated in for Frog, I hate it for Ha'nit in Octopath, I have it in the early DQ games. Hell, I hate it in MODERN DQ games, with all yhe regional dialect they give.

As far as I'm concerned, it just makes things more annoying and slow to read, when I have to half-translate everything these people are saying.

When you consider that he didn't do that earlier, it's almost like he was doing that to try and disguise himself.

I agree with some of the general sentiment here but also woolsey just straight up mistranslates a surprising amount of stuff. working on the flow and coolness of the text should definitely come after you make sure it has correct meaning

I believe Woolsey was over the Super Mario RPG localization as well, and that game also had some weird stuff in it. Many of the established Mario enemies didn't have their correct names, the Koopa Shell weapon still had its Japanese terminology, and the spell in which a fireball is shot at the target was for some reason called "Drain".

guilty as charged, you're not completely wrong. I still really like his translations though. It's definitely partly nostalgia.. but it's still a personal selling point.

The original SNES translation had charm. Retranslation was boring.

A less directly faithful but spirited translation can keep the spirit of the game better than a by the numbers translation a machine can give you.

Translation is an art. Words are chosen in writing not just for meaning but for subtext, style, artistry. Frequently a slight change can keep the art better than the exact word in English which isn't as interesting of a choice.

Also sometimes the translator has something untranslatable they have to make a judgement call on, and Woolsey was fun as hell. You're 100% spot on.

There were a lot of liberties taken. Way way more than a couple. Ted Woolsey, look him up, for real. But the original script wasn't nearly as funny.

It used to be funnier, but got repetitive over time and Garfield himself got less weird. They also started to lean on patterns more, like the lame spider jokes. Also, kids laugh easier.

Overall I'd rate it as a good comic in its heyday but treading water now.
