Is there an advantage to buying this over buying the Legacy Collection on PS3, other than this just being on modern hardware?

It's funny because I think this match proves how impossible it is to beat Link under normal circumstances. Peak Cloud + Kingdom Hearts + Cel-Shaded Link = just a 51.5% win. Nothing else will ever be capable of that again without a rally.

I feel like Peak Cloud would have been a hypothetical Summer of 1998 contest (after FF7, before OoT)

2 > 4 > 1 > 3

2 is the perfect middleground between small stakes action and operatic franchise with worldbuilding around a network of assassins that ultimately kinda ends up getting too ridiculous for its own good. 4 is very clearly a high point in terms of setpieces though.

Just 2009->2010 was a big improvement. There was probably some sort of site shift there, as Majora, SotC, and Bioshock all seemed to perform way better one year later.

I feel like this is probably just improved playrate for BioShock with it being one of the "must have" games late adopters of the seventh gen HD twins picked up when they finally got around to getting a console

I'm gullible enough to trust easily and I've had a hard time feeling like I'm really "in love" to the point where it's been a detriment in multiple romantic relationships

I have seen zoomers who grew up with 06 have a fondness for it, but they're not that sizeable of a group

The real winner of the 3D Sonic series has been Unleashed (the 360/PS3 version). A combination of the nostalgia cycle, people appreciating how ambitious its level design and scope was compared to everything that followed, and the 360 version looking pretty damn impressive on Xbox One X/Series X backwards compatibility probably helped it a lot.

I remember people treating it almost like a spin-off at release because of how many OoT assets it reused and how short its dev time was. It also came out right around the time the PS2 came out, which was absolutely massive and sort of overshadowed almost anything that came out near it (Pokemon Gold/Silver probably being the big exception since that was sort of its own thing with a younger audience at the time). It's the one time I felt like you could make the argument that a 3D Zelda game wasn't one of the biggest games of the year.

The general consensus among those who played it IIRC was a lot of "good but not as good as Ocarina," and the time limit was fairly divisive.

I think generational personal rivalries often feel contrived, after a few generations I'd assume that the beef would be able to be squashed if there wasn't a stupid amount of pettiness, so I voted immortal hero vs. immortal villain

That being said, endless rivalries are largely dumb. I've never met anyone who had a rival from their childhood all the way up through old age that was actually a "rival". Give the story an ending at some point and retire the characters. Even something like "they fell out of touch and stopped being rivals" would be satisfying to me.

I actually like 64 now more than I did as a kid, since online guides mean I won't get stuck with some of the slightly more obtuse stars

Back in the day the community felt more innocent and underground, especially to the western internet. It was just a different culture and the memes themselves were more earnest and creative in different ways. The shows themselves are also a lot different too now, TC said he watched Haruhi and that show was pretty different from the modern anime landscape, especially since I can't think of anything with that much of a focus on comedy that captured the zeitgeist like that show did.

Women pretty cleanly have it worse, just from a pure statistical standpoint by most metrics

Glad that's winning though, even if the margin isn't super big. As someone who stopped going to this board for like eight years and is only recently checking in on it again, the first option would have definitely won in the CE of 10 years ago.

100%ing it as a kid was one of the only things I did in a video game as a child (like, pre-13) that I look back on and think was genuinely challenging

I remember beating it in a couple days but the new game plus mode took me a long time

I had a ton of fun with it back in the day, like it was legit maybe my favorite gaming experience in my childhood. I've figured it probably doesn't hold up super well because fighting game single-player is now pretty obviously just an obviously worse experience to me than multiplayer in ways I never noticed growing up, but I've still always wanted to revisit it.

I saw both about weekly, my paternal grandparents are probably more involved in my life overall because they've been alive for a lot more of my life (my maternal grandma passed away partway through high school, and my paternal grandpa passed away freshmen year of college, whereas both of my paternal grandparents are still alive), though I probably spent more time with my maternal grandparents as a kid since we would stay overnight at their house every once in a while which never happened with my paternal grandparents

If we're talking international versions, SNES is easy type while PSX is hard type, so there is a big difference for FF4 game. I don't think the load times were as bad for FF4 either.

The localization for PS1 is also different iirc

Yes. Crystal Skull's actually weren't too bad, especially compared to how it would be perceived by fans and critically in retrospect not too long after. Probably got a bump from being the first in the series in a long time.

Looking back I was pretty lucky to be exposed to a lot of genuinely good media in high school. My junior year English teacher basically taught a crash course introductory to film unit to us, which is something I'm glad I got in HS because my small university didn't really offer anything like that. My senior year government teacher also regularly played us clips from the Colbert Report and the Daily Show which seems like something that would be hard to get away with now.

A C-tier version of a David Fincher film wearing a Batman skin, which is actually a compliment in my book

WW is pretty cleanly the worst 3D Zelda (not taking into account TotK since I haven't played it much yet, honestly it might be worse to me since the opening few hours have not grabbed me but obviously not enough to judge by), but the lows the series hits with stuff like Zelda II, PH/ST, and TriForce Heroes are much lower imo. WW for all its faults still has a lot of the core of what made earlier games like OoT good.

I was kinda hype for Four Swords because of it when the Anniversary Edition for DSiWare was announced but I don't really remember being as engaged. Would definitely give it another shot coming to NSO though.

It's a lot shorter than FSA. FSA is a full-fledged Zelda game, Four Swords was a side mode that was bundled with the GBA port of aLttP. Four Swords Anniversary is just a port of that side game, they probably wouldn't have offered something as substantial as FSA for free.

Zelda II is one of the few games where the "too hard" complaints actually seem legitimate to me
