Anybody read Dune?

I love this movie, very underrated imo. Wahlberg is actually funny in it. There's really not that much to understand, it's an absurdist comedy with heavy existentialist themes. There's a lot of very shallow philosophy references in it, which I liked because I was majoring in philosophy when it came out.

That makes sense because I suck at philosophy. But maybe I'd understand it better if I rewatched it now since I was about 14 when I saw it.

You said Putin invaded Ukraine because he just wants to have it. This sounds like ego. And means that Putin is willing to kill to satisfy his ego.

Putin doesn't think he will lose everything. He just wants Ukraine. He feels Ukraine belongs to him and he won't give it up even if the entire world turns on him. He'll sacrifice millions of his own people because he believes Ukraine belongs to him.

I believe he feared Ukraine joining nato , that makes sense because that would be a problem for him with other enemy countries he has , even if him wanting to have Ukraine is the case too I dont think thats the main motive for his impulse and doing something that drastic. The point is he already lost support from all around the world and many people from his own country

So, not only are the consequences of giving up and keeping on completly different for both countries, it's insane to compare consequences for Putin with the consequences for everyone in Ukraine.

Nobody was comparing consequences , the discussion was about how both sides view it.
And I agree Ukraine lost innocent lives. But Putin lost lives and damaged his own country forever. Ukraine will have support from others countries , russia wont.

And it's just outright Putin shilling if the final verdict ends with "Ukraine doesn't have that much to lose"

No .you just want to take things out of context.
The discussion between those guys wasn't about lives but about perspectives of Putin v Ukraine and who has more reason to fight or give up.

I dont want to continue to fight about this either. I just wanted to say that I agree with him because I dont have any hope that Putin would surrender because he is a narcissist and for him losing is the same as for Ukraine it is to lose lives

My point is when someone doesnkt care about lives , they have less to lose (Putin doesn't care , for him it's all about his power ) ,so Putin right now has the same stance as the Ukranian president and people have like you said. Ukraine has lives to lose. But for Putin his power is more important than lives. So that's why I think that for Putin is the same thing.

I agree , because if that was not the case , Putin would have made some deal since last year , even if not accepting he lost , but anything to stop continuing to lose more lives and money , but he didn't

No i dont think that makes him a victim. Ukraine had the right to join Nato and Putin feared that would make him lose power and control because then Ukraine has support of Putin's enemies. I dont think that makes him a victim

Yes he is drunk with power is why I dont see that he would accept it , he is too proud and i think accepting a loss is worse than anything in his eyes. Again because why didn't he surrender last year?

I think it's most realistic to say in Putin's eyes surrender now is worse than anything else for him. Because otherwise I dont see why he wouldn't surrender when things started to go badly for him way back , now it would be even worse. It would be better if he did but I don't think he would

Why ? I don't know why people started to be hostile , there wasnt anything wrong about the discussion and what he was saying.

Putin won't want to surrender , i think that is realistic , because he would lose everything or that's how it will be in his eyes..So it's not realistic to think he will just surrender and that the war will end this way.

That is what they were talking about before others joined. If Putin hasn't been killed yet then he has good protection. However I think that NATO will protect Ukraine now and Putin knows that , so that is one more reason he won't want to accept that he lost because that will mean to be at the mercy of US and that is what he feared about Ukraine joining nato since the start. I just don't think he will surrender if he still hasn't done it , thats why I'm worried the war can go on for long and expand to other countries..
