We can look at this and I see it in health care, Im going to say it: maybe the reason you had a heart attack was because you havent taken care of yourself; youre extremely overweight, you havent managed your congestive heart failure, you havent managed your diabetes, and theres no personal accountability, Petrovic said.
It shouldn't preclude someone from receiving treatment, especially in an emergency, but she's not exactly wrong. That said, I don't trust that a right-winger is saying this for anything near a good reason or that she cares about anyone at all. She more than likely holds other positions that contribute to all the systemic factors that result in people who end up suffering like this. Right-wingers are also obsessed with gutting public institutions and using these people as a means to that end is fucking gross.

It can be but I've noticed most people who simultaneously hold those views have a "I think of my child as my property so whatever I choice I make for them is obviously good and reasonable" mentality.

There's no real ideology behind their views in the first place for there to be a contradiction.

I prefer to go during off peak hours so I can meander about and take my time. I hate feeling like I'm driving in Mumbai when there are too many aggro people.

She was overstating the effectiveness of the vaccine by talking like it was ironclad, but it still offered very robust protection that limited the og virus's ability to infect people. It was delta that really caused that feature to plummet and dated what she said, which is why it was imperative to get as many people as possible vaccinated and limit spread. That did not happen.

Good intents often have unintended consequences.

US has over 7500 annual pedestrian deaths already. If pedestrians are allowed to cross at places other than crosswalks, I cant imagine a world without increased incidents.
Those deaths are mostly a result of poor infrastructure like no sidewalks and dangerous roads that force pedestrians into car spaces. Increasingly large vehicles are also a part of this. SUV crashes in general are up because these unwieldy vehicles are just more dangerous. Mental health of drivers matters, too.

Jaywalking laws don't alleviate any of those problems and usually just impose another burden on pedestrians who are already at the mercy of a transportation system that has more or less agreed to sacrifice them for cars.

Being an advocate or educator (and I'm using that in the non-professional sense) isn't for everyone. It's exhausting, tedious, and thankless even when it goes well. It rarely goes well. When you run into person after person after person who doesn't get it, doesn't want to get it, is happy that they don't get it and even happier to make your life hell for wasting your energy on them, it's understandable to want to bow out.

People aren't machines who can tirelessly show up and produce, even if it's about something important that they really want to engage in. Even big name activists get burned out and turned off because of this. The expectation that someone should be always be ready, willing, and able is just plain dumb.
