Topic | Could I still get the job if I was nervous as hell? |
GBH713 11/08/23 1:07:24 PM #4 | Yeah I wouldn't be worried about nervousness. Just focus on doing the best you can at an interview. You may be great, but someone else could be perfect and get the job. It doesn't mean that you did anything wrong though.

OK that's pretty hardcore. But I still feel he's a rarity probably. Do you think that sort of thing happens all of the time in women's soccer? They are professional athletes in both the women's and the men's game. Neither set of people are some sort of superheroes. --- GBH |

He may have had a bad habit to try to trip people during a hit but equating that to intentionally kicking someone in the throat with a skate blade to KILL SOMEONE them is two entirely fucking different things. Are many people saying that he intentionally tried to slit someone's throat with his skate? I can't see any in this topic at a quick glance. I've seen far more comments (in this topic and outside it) that it was unsafe and avoidable. --- GBH |
Topic | Help on potentially using data in Excel to populate hundreds of Word docs? |
GBH713 10/13/23 11:19:41 AM #14 | This sounds like a mail merge would be useful as another couple of posters have suggested. Other suggestions might work too, but mail merge is how I've dealt with something like this before in the past. I think I'd found good instructions by googling. And Office does a lot to help you out too.

Topic | What is the most CONFUSING movie you've seen? |
GBH713 10/07/23 7:19:17 PM #184 | DragulaRULEZ posted...
"Things" (1989) Things! I've seen it twice and I don't think I finished it either time knowing exactly what had happened. It's definitely the worst film I've ever seen. I'd second that Predestination wasn't confusing. It had the twist, but it was all quite straightforward. Good film though. --- GBH |
Topic | Rhea Ripley doing lat pulldowns |

Topic | My coworkers complete daily 'The Mini' crosswords in under a minute. I can't |
GBH713 09/25/23 12:06:05 PM #4 | I did it in 3 minutes. It took me a little while to get going. It helps to move on if you're struggling, and then maybe you'll get some letters that will help after you complete some other words.

Topic | Why does it feel like Nintendo hardware is two generations behind everyone else? |
GBH713 09/25/23 11:59:48 AM #34 | It feels like everyone has answered the question, so just a note that I don't think that you've used lowest common denominator correctly. If you're trying to insult people who buy Nintendo consoles, you'd want to say that it would continue to be aimed at the lowest common denominator. If you're trying to say that it would be the weakest console, you'd want to use a different phrase.

Topic | tfw you're lonely and have no one to talk to. |
GBH713 09/09/23 1:29:40 PM #18 | I don't know you, but being nice to people goes a long way. One of my closer friends is one of the more socially people I know, but he's just very pleasant, and I can't imagine disliking him. He might not be for everyone, but he's got friends.
I'm not saying that you're not already a nice person, but I've come across a lot of people who are pricks and wonder why no one likes them. --- GBH |

GBH713 09/09/23 7:07:41 AM #6 | ai123 posted...
I've heard of people doing tiny house living because they want to downsize and be more eco-friendly. Yeah everyone I know who had expressed interest in this IRL and what I came across when I read about it online suggested this was for younger, middle class people. Maybe it's different in the US, but I didn't really get the impression that it's aimed at poorer people in the UK. --- GBH |

GBH713 08/31/23 4:41:15 PM #12 | Have you got any examples of your writing? As in, have you got any of this down yet? I think I've seen a couple of topics and about you and your story.
I find that sometimes people get so caught up in having a good story that you can summarise that they don't focus on the quality of their writing. Good writing can elevate a mediocre story, but not vice versa. --- GBH |

Topic | Just Egg, now containing no eggs. |
GBH713 08/07/23 7:23:54 PM #42 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote]
It sounds odd, but I think it's that laying eggs is really nutritionally taxing for the hens. So stopping them from laying eggs means that they get to keep nutrients for themselves rather than for the eggs that they're laying. I've not looked into this, but I'm pretty sure that egg laying hens get really unwell from all of the egg laying. --- GBH |
Topic | Broke up with my gf tonight, she is devastated and will be talking more tomorrow |
GBH713 08/01/23 6:39:14 AM #5 | "She wants a family with me, we've talked about it frequently. We match each other so well in almost all aspects. Similar hobbies, values, personalities" I think you can have this and it be so unimportant when you fundamentally need someone who treats you well. She just doesn't. You could stay with her for the rest of your life and put up with her behaviour (many people do put up with bad relationships), but you don't need to. She's not going to change really, so I think you're right to break up with her. Just to reiterate, if you treat someone well, you deserve to be treated well. You can settle for less if you want, you I don't think you should. And someone being nice 95% of the time, but horrible 5% of the time isn't good enough. We all have bad days and moments that we regret, but they should be incredibly infrequent and we should show actual remorse for them. --- GBH |
Topic | Anyone that says they love Kate Bush is either a liar or mental. |
GBH713 07/27/23 5:34:25 PM #24 | I like (most of) her music. Hounds of Love and The Dreaming are two of my favourite albums. And I didn't get the impression that she was unknown here in the UK prior to Stranger Things. Maybe she wasn't as big outside of the UK though. --- GBH |

GBH713 07/26/23 5:45:14 AM #10 | spikethedevil posted... Fuck them for making console people wait an extra month. The PS5 version won't be ready to be released until September, whereas the PC version is ready a month earlier. They aren't doing this to spite PS5 owners. GBH713 07/17/23 8:15:02 AM #15 | I've feel a lot better about it since I've been managing other staff. Topic | Victor Wembanyama's head of security backhand slapped Britney Spears |
GBH713 07/08/23 3:20:06 AM #47 | Kradek posted... Setting aside the fact that it seems like it was reported wrong initially, it shouldn't be considered "a guard's job" to assault people with no justification. You're saying he would have been justified in backhanding her for tapping him on the shoulder. Where is Brestugo defending the security guard supposedly backhanding Britney? Their first post in the topic is talking about reports that the security guard knocked her hand away, and the others seem to be defending the guard for doing that. Unless you're saying that the guard shouldn't have knocked her hand away? --- GBH |

GBH713 06/28/23 4:35:06 PM #14 | I'd recommend Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective (board game) as well actually. It's a series of really fun mysteries where you speak to various people, follow leads, and decide when you think you've got enough information to solve the case. In theory you could rush, or you could do absolutely everything, but a midpoint between the two is good. --- GBH |

GBH713 06/28/23 3:02:09 PM #4 | I quite like Stuart Turton for someone more modern. He did The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and The Devil and the Dark Water, both of which I really liked. The Appeal by Janice Hallett was good as well. It's a bit gimmicky, but I like that. Murder in the Crooked House is an interesting Japanese murder mystery. I've never read any Anthony Horowitz, but I might check out the book you've mentioned. --- GBH |

Topic | DnD combat is the most mind numbingly boring thing |
GBH713 05/28/23 6:15:00 AM #8 | I think part of it is that 5e just doesn't have the most exciting combat, but there's also how rigid your DM is with what you can do. A bit of flexibility can make things a lot more interesting. And the biggest one is how quickly it moves. People taking forever to do their turns can be a huge drag. --- GBH |
Topic | New job wants me to start before my notice period at old job |
GBH713 05/26/23 8:35:29 AM #12 | You either see if your current employer is content with a shorter notice period, or you tell your new employer that you won't be able to start until later. If they've gone through the bother of recruiting you, they'll just wait an extra month. Don't worry about it. I've also got a 3 month notice period (in the UK), and it's common across all of the more senior staff in my organisation. --- GBH |

GBH713 05/12/23 4:01:38 AM #34 | It doesn't read to me that your account will be deleted if you're inactive for 30 days. It specifically says prolonged inactivity, whereas the wording around 30 days suggests that's what they would consider just normal inactivity. --- GBH |

Topic | Should you always get two dogs? |
GBH713 05/03/23 4:31:54 AM #10 | I'm sure it depends on the dog, and there may be something I've missed, but my vet, the person I got my dog from, and everything I'd read when I searched online suggested not leaving your dog alone for more than 4 hours at a time as a general rule https://www.bluecross.org.uk/advice/dog/home-alone-separation-anxiety-in-dogs . So that would match up with your comment about them being fine alone for hours, if hours is around 4, but 8-10 hours would be way longer than anything that I've heard. I certainly wouldn't leave my dog alone for that length of time if I worked away from home every day. Admittedly I've not really looked into this as much for multiple dogs, but the people I know with multiple dogs still wouldn't leave them alone regularly while they went out for work (let's say 9 hours for 8 hours at work plus a half an hour commute either way). --- GBH |
Topic | Any good Excel people? Simple question, I think |
GBH713 05/03/23 4:08:44 AM #3 | SUMIFS will help if you mean what I think you mean. Sum range would be column C, criteria range 1 would be column A, with criteria 1 being E2, with criteria range 2 being column B, and criteria 2 being F2. It will take the figure from column C that has A and B match E and F. If there are multiple rows with the same A and B, it would add together the values in C, but it doesn't look like you have that. --- GBH |
Topic | Should you always get two dogs? |
GBH713 05/03/23 3:30:05 AM #7 | I wouldn't get a dog or two dogs if they're going to be left alone all day while I'm working. I work from home some days and take them to day care when I'm in the office. --- GBH |
