I've been to a handful of anime cons and gotten 2 signatures total - one from Lia (the singer) and one from Nobuyuki Hiyama (voice actor for, among many other things, link in OoT)

In both cases, the main rule was that you can't get them to sign something totally unrelated to them. The signature book thing they sell at the con is ok, as were any official merch/albums/etc related to them. fanart wasn't ok, blank papers weren't ok, etc. In one case I sorta planned in advance and now I have a signed ocarina of time cartridge (he laughed a little when I passed him it to sign since everyone else had posters or etc of anime he acted in). The other case was a sort of spur of the moment thing and I had to buy some random album she was also selling there so I could have something to sign.

but in both cases there was no extra payment involved you just needed to get in line early enough

it's totally fine to shoo them away from places, you just don't want to approach their nests, I chase them off bike/footpaths all the time (or well I did back when I actually went outdoors...)

how exactly is this a "disaster of ethics", people use a wide variety of pest control methods all over the country/world on a regular basis. In fact I'd say this seems rather tame since it sounds like they're mostly hoping the dogs will scare the geese away solely by being there

Aspartame isnt currently anywhere on the list, but the proposal, after an updated review of the science, is to add it to Group 2B.
Just for context, here are some of the other things in Group 2B: Aloe vera. Working as a carpenter or joiner. Working in a dry cleaner. Pickled vegetables.
And here are some of the things from Group 2A, which are apparently even more serious cancer risks: Eating red meat. Working night shifts. Drinking hot beverages at above 65C.

I don't really care too much either way, probably in large part because generally the children characters don't really come across much as children anyway they're just shorter adults who are still in grade school

you guys should go try the test it's actually quite quick and is kinda neat

there's some very obvious fake ones but then at the same time there are (imo) a few kinda borderline ones that could go either way

they just keep offering more money / financial incentives for this and it doesn't really work, I wonder when they'll catch on that that's not the real issue

I'm willing to try, and I'm also good at following instructions properly, and honestly that's really all you need to fix a surprising amount of things

a lab staffed by actual humans living down there sounds very difficult but some sort of AI lab building / mobile rover with science facilities attached probably wouldn't be that bad?

Sometimes I'd check elevation by trying to throw a projectile at where I'm going - if it flies over it's the same height or lower, if it bounces off I'm higher. You also just sort of get used to the terrain layout vibes over time. agree it's the main negative of the game though

I'm not really a hater but how much stuff do you bring with you that pants/shorts with just a normal set of pockets is not good enough

my dad has recently been dealing with inheritance related/adjacent stuff for his parents and he has 9 other siblings and the whole thing is very complicated sounding. I don't know too much from the outside looking in but it seems quite stressful

yeah it's easy to blend it with all the other niji stuff happening lately but this at least feels very unrelated to me

really though I think the big reason against always-online single player is that it does not add anything for the player. the downsides may not be that bad but it's not like this is some kind of trade-off you're trying to judge whether it's worth it, you actually gain nothing from the feature and it's purely potential negatives

what's the maximum filesize of a disc anyways, I wonder if AAA games are starting to surpass it

I think they're a sort of lazy flex - you just press a button instead of doing anything particularly fancy or complex

but sometimes they have fun audio/animations

proper physical editions don't really exist now anyways and haven't (for large games) for years now, it having a disk or not is not really relevant so focusing on that part seems a bit strange to me

if it's actually always online single player though, that's pretty awful

I don't read books that often but whenever I do I get super hooked and basically don't do anything but eat/sleep until I finish them. not sure why I don't read more often since I definitely enjoy it but in terms of effect on my life it's probably for the best I keep it a somewhat rare event

I dunno I think it's pretty musically different from most anime songs. I don't particularly like it myself but it's definitely a bit unique in the space at least. it's also by a pretty big-name group that has only recently started doing anime openings so they have a decent backing fanbase already

I dunno if it's really blackmail since they definitely cannot really control the mob either at this point. It's not like the apollo devs whipped up a bunch of unrelated subreddits into an army, they're just users and mods who like apollo and other similar apps/tools and are mad that they're basically on the chopping block. The only thing that will actually make results is getting the 3rd party apps back which means big API pricing changes so really it's all in reddit's hands at this point. and their pricing is absurd honestly so it's all their fault the whole thing happened in the first place

for its entire life reddit has been a service that can only exist because of the users. The vast majority of their moderation staff (extremely important btw, not just an afterthought!) are unpaid volunteers and all of their content is viewer submitted posts and images. it's very clearly not in reddit's best interest to aggravate these people and yet they just do it again and again with this finally being the one that made people snap I guess

Yeah the headline is misleading, the "provides extra $6.2 billion" is more like they had a specific budget, and just now realized they have not gotten through as much of it as they thought they would so they have another $6.2 billion still to spend. The actual amount didn't go up, the portion used just went down

It's funny seeing the people saying they're against the reddit mods because the mods are powertripping. basically instant proof they are not following what's going on here at all

the mods are fighting back against powertripping from reddit staff in the only way really available to them, which is closing off subreddits. And then staff is going over their heads to boot them out and restore the subs. It's obvious where the actual balance of power is here lol

I'm totally with them because reddit is basically a company making money off the work of thousands of unpaid volunteers, who are now trying to step all over those volunteers for no real reason and it's very fun to see them slowly realizing that wait a sec, these volunteers actually have more ability to mess with us in return than we first thought. instant karma really

I'm somewhere between options 3 and 4. I think another key part of it is the size of core community vs the size of the "tourist" outsiders. because the larger the size discrepency is the more power they have to permanently reshape the community, often for the worse, if they are not somehow kept in check

Translation is an art. Words are chosen in writing not just for meaning but for subtext, style, artistry. Frequently a slight change can keep the art better than the exact word in English which isn't as interesting of a choice.

I agree with some of the general sentiment here but also woolsey just straight up mistranslates a surprising amount of stuff. working on the flow and coolness of the text should definitely come after you make sure it has correct meaning

There's a sci-fi RTS series called AI War where one of their bragging features is the difficulty and intelligence level of the AI. The devs even asked that anyone who beats the hardest difficulty AI submit a bug report so they can fix it lol
