Just remembered that this isn't correct. I started Yoshi's Island DS. I played a few levels and wasn't enjoying it. It felt really slow.

What on Earth is Yoshi's Universal Gravitation? Doesn't show up on gamefaqs.

Anyway, the only one of these besides Yoshi's Island I've played is Yoshi's Cookie, which I had a lot of fun as a kid with so voted that.

Also glad to beat level 3. Getting two spread guesses right is basically a 1 in 4 shot.

That's fair. I do agree that it was likely weaker in the beginning since the game is also trying to introduce you to the characters and world and everything. Once all that is established, it gets better. I do think mixing up the pairs is effective, at least.

I actually kinda liked this part of the game where characters were split up in pairs a lot. Each of the characters in the pair get to develop, and you get to see the interactions between them, and also the pairs change several times. It's probably why I remember several of the characters fondly even though I don't really remember the overall story very well. It's much different from FF12's approach of basically just having one party for most or all of the game once you get all the characters.

My first thought was FFV Berserker but there may be some worse ones out there.

I guess FF1 thief is really bad too, considering other choices are just better.

So at some point in the translation process, buried somewhere in the code there, she was named default as "Aerith" but it was later changed to "Aeris" default yet that buried instance still gets invoked with that skip. Pretty funny!

From a technical standpoint, it seems that the default name in the name select screen is "Aeris" while the default name outside of that is "Aerith". I guess they changed this in one place but not the other. If the current speedrun uses this skip, then that gives that much more visibility to this obscure "Aerith" reference, since that'll be her name for the whole game.
