I started working at 14 years old. A bunch of my family died a few years ago, then I went nuts (psychotic break or something, I guess) and left these two really great jobs that I had. It was rough for a little bit but then it ended up working out-- in a way-- because my dad got sick so I became his hospice nurse for about a year. (It "worked out" in the sense that at least we had someone-- me-- there for him.) It was basically a true job, I was spending at least 30 hours a week taking care of him.

There was a lot that went into it. It sucked real bad watching him suffer and wither away but the silver lining was that we got a lot closer than we ever had been. I'm grateful for it in a lot of ways.

But damn, idk wtf happened to me. I'll do my best to explain. I got super sick myself while caring for him. For months and months I could hardly eat because it was too painful to swallow food. I had an awful cough. I lost a ton of weight. Right after he died I ended up in the E.R. and was eventually diagnosed with full-blown AIDS. It took a doctor that was active during the height of the crisis in the '80s/'90s to identify it because no one else had ever seen it before.

I was really bad off. I'm good now though, for the most part, health-wise. But jeez, I stopped working around that time and haven't held a job since. It's been YEARS. It's hard to fathom. Time really slips away. It's super weird to have been unemployed for so long. I've sort of lost track of myself, if that makes sense. Normal people don't go so long without work. I think it's messed my mind up pretty bad, tbh. I had some crappy jobs with mean bosses that made me feel like shit, but when I was in a good work environment I really excelled, thrived. I was an asset at a lot of places, that people-- coworkers, bosses, and patrons alike-- really appreciated. I was good for the community. I am doing a disservice to myself and everyone around me by not being out there.

It's hard to imagine climbing out of a mire, though, when you're so deep and have been drowning in it for so long.

What a wasted life. Sigh. :/

Shoot, the average person, even if they're kind of dumb, would probably do some good shit if put in office. Anyone with half a heart, even if they only have half a brain, would probably severely reduce military spending and institute universal healthcare.

No?

Idk, maybe that is too optimistic of me.

Obama probably tried (he sort of made the healthcare thing happen, at least a little bit). Maybe guys like Carter and Obama just get stymied by the powers they have to answer to, and John Doe would face the same, and I'm just being naive and ignorant. Idk. Would probably be fun to test such a thing out, though.

Just throw an average dude who's like nice and cares about people in the office. Like I said though, that's basically what dudes like Carter and Obama were.....albeit much more intelligent than the average person, Particularly in Barack's case.

But maybe being an idiot would be useful. If it helped them have unbridled confidence. Just whipping their power around and making the common sense decisions that we all want a president to make.

Trump is like a big, sloppy clown whose idiotic antics make me chuckle occasionally. He also (albeit unintentionally) messed with the empire's interests a few times, which, hey, is nice.

I wonder what a typical day looks like for him now. Isn't he going to prison, btw? He fucked that up for himself. Should have stayed at his level, probably. I am big boss daddy now. Y'all follow me. I lead ya to greatness. I conquer all, hear me now. Listen to da big boss golden king from da mud. I am da king now.

Love ya all, but follow me n' we create a kingdom, my friends!

Seriously doe I could run a militia or gang or military unit or squad or whatever you wanna call it, I just have to be bold and ostentatious. Aggressive and confident.

It's not in me, doe. My grandpa was in da Red Arrow Division which is da pacific unit dat suffered da higbhest casualties for Americans in WWII. My gpa saw his friend's head get blown off by a sniper shot.

He was made a SGT. because he was 6'5", lol. But he was a big friendly giant like my li'l 6'0" ass (6'4" wingspan doe-- a former NBA player directed me to play center because of my arms n' defensive instincts). I love people.......even da violent one dat rocked me wit a crowbar to my head and hand recently.

Fucked up my hooping like dat cop did wit my arm.

It's a shame. I love hoopin and da neighborhood kids love when I hoop wit dem. I'm like a scrawny, pale LeBron. Dat's my style. My shot is ok at best sp I mainly take it to da rack and whip da ball around like Magic. I shouldn't brag so much but for real....da young'uns love playin wit me because I'm skilled and unselfish.

I'm a positive part of da community, swear to god. Dey love me everywhere. I've taught so many people how to swim, from ages 1-99. And taught many kids how to hoop and fish and just interact with people and handle their business.

Again, I feel ashamed for bragging but da so-called justice system is tryna do me so dirty. It's a sad tale.

Idk, it's like they want to run and be their own thing but are also beholden to the MAGA crowd, a movement that launched from Trump.

They want to have their cake and eat it too........they want to do their usual stuff like cut funding to programs, bomb people across the world....idk, Trump, goofy as he was, upset the Republicans' order of things a bit.

I mean, guy was up there saying we're invading X country for their oil. They never said that type of thing out loud before.

He was a bumbling mess and guys like DeSantis are trying to run on the old system. He knows how to get stuff done....enact laws that hurt people, stuff like that. But he's way too fucking boring to be president after the right got a taste of Trumpism. He can't compete.

Donald would prolly do better than his moldy ass running a campaign out of prison like Tupac.

Frankly I wish some celebrities like Jay-Z and LeBron would have met up with Trump and hung out with dude when he was president.........his goofy ass just wants friends and they prolly could have convinced him to do some good shit.

As it was he was so incompetent that it was probably better for the world having him in the seat. I mean, less bombings, gave stimulus...idk, Trump is obnoxious and shitty and racist and a bully but I'd rather have that at the head of the empire than someone who knows where to point the drones.

idk, rambling here.

I'm dumb.

Trump sucks, but so does everyone who leads the military industrial complex. His dumbass bumbled some things, at least. No one can really stop the tide of money-grabbing violence, though, no matter how stupid they are. It operates away, regardless.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Just try to sleep as much as possible.

It was so cold, though.

When I first arrived they put me in solitary because I was screaming that they were all Nazis. No clothes, no blanket, nothing to wash myself with. No toothbrush. Nothing. For a week and a half.

It's honestly war crimes. No one would be able to deny it at a trial like the Geneva Convention...or Nuremberg or whatever.... or what they held in Cuba after the revolution. Seriously.

It's just no one knows about it and there's no one to advocate and the system is so entrenched that nothing will be done about it.

It's torture. Our own citizens are getting tortured beyond belief.

I don't know how else to put it. I'm so traumatized that I can barely elaborate.

Once I got to the cell block...........

One crappy ass "blanket" that was too small and full of holes. But, sleeping until the next "meal" (usually one piece of balogna, with a tiny portion of bland rice or potatoes. Lucky if you get a few green beans or a slice or two of canned peaches. They didn't really care if your meal was proper. The small, elementary school-sized carton of milk they occasionally gave us for breakfast was often spoiled. They really didn't care if we were starving. I saw so many emaciated people in my cell block. Every night at least one person would be having a medical emergency that they'd call nurses and a gang of C.O.s [correctional officers...cops] in for.) was the best you could do.

I've always been a big reader but they kept me from books so often and on the rare occasion I was able to nab one, reading seemed impossible. I could focus for like one page and then my brain would scatter.

I barely remember thinking about anything in there. The rare thoughts and dreams I did have were violent and depressing, and barely made sense.

I honestly don't understand how people could subject other people to such an existence.

Sorry, I cut myself off short there a bit. I can say more if you ask more questions, it's just really hard to talk about.

Even now.

I feel like my mind and my psyche and my entire being was entirely ruined by the experience. I don't feel like a human being at all anymore. I feel like a tiny rat with no direction. It ruined my life.

I wanna answer more questions, though.

I was super lucky to have a decent friend in the cell next to me. He helped me a lot, best as he could.

One time he showed me the admission picture they had of him on his bracelet...he looked so incredibly different. All of the color in his face was gone and his head was so skinny compared to what it was. I was horrified.

I myself lost ~30 lbs. in the first couple weeks they had me there.

It's impossible to do anything in that place, though. It's like what I imagine hell to be. Worse than that, even. I didn't know such awfulness was possible in this life.

I'm still shell-shocked by it.

I wanna answer more though...thanks for asking. It's just tough and like I said my mind has been sabotaged by the experience. I wish I could describe it better.

Ugh. Sorry.

I wish I were better with words, to make people in my city understand how awful and inhumane it is in that place. I'm just so fucking exhausted. Worn out. All I wanna do is sleep.

(I also got smashed in the head a bunch of times with a crowbar by some dude who wanted my groceries a couple weeks ago, btw. Idk, maybe that's part of it. I've been sleeping a lot since then. But, I'd rather get crowbar'd again than go back to this city's jail. It's seriously so bad. So, so bad.)

I hope I'm making some semblance of sense. Ugh, again. Ugh. Sorry, everyone. :/

Despite how bad it is claimed to be recidivism rates in the U.S. are some of the highest in the world with almost 44% of criminals released returning to prison within their first year out.

There's really nothing in place for us. They just put you out on the street, with nothing to do and nowhere to go.

If you got arrested in the summer and released in the winter, you're out their freezing to death with no idea what to do.

I'm not surprised by those numbers...frankly I would have guessed they'd be higher. America's criminal "justice" ("just us") system is cruel and unforgiving. It's about Puritan punishment, with no room for incarcerated people's growth, no room for a return to society, no room for peace, no room for anything good. It's really awful.

I'm extremely blessed to still have living family members that care for me, and even then....I feel like a complete alien. Rejected, dejected, doomed to failure.

All because of a mental health episode.

I was living a great, productive, healthy, wonderful life. Something snapped in my head, I got locked up, and now there is an impossible mountain to climb. I don't think individual people want it, but the system in place seems explicitly designed to make people like myself fail. Fail and suffer. And suffer. And suffer. And suffer. I really don't believe it's intentionally evil but if anything ever deserved that descriptor, the system that is in place for us does.

I missed this place. The conversations, the shitposts, the animosity and the wry humor. The ins and the outs, the friendships and the antagonistic relationships.

I was in jail for ~3 months last fall and have been super depressed ever since. It's very dehumanizing. I can't even describe how bad it is. Apparently the jail I was in was extra bad, too.......like, one of the worst in the country. They starved the fuck out of us and kept us locked up 24 hrs/day for the most part. In our tiny, gray, lonesome cells. Nothing to do, no stimulation. Agonized prisoners screaming their hearts out day and night, making sleep impossible.

Most informed people know how fucked up incarceration in the U.S. is but, god damn, it's another thing to experience it first hand. It was truly, truly soul-crushing. And, again, I "only" spent 3 months in there. Others had been there for years. Years and years. It is no way for a human being to live........seriously, execution would be far preferable for most of these guys. More humane, less sadistic. It's just getting slowly starved to death in your own, personal, miserable hell. Gray walls 24/7, no stimulation. Scraps for food.

I seriously cannot put into words how awful it was. And, AGAIN, I was their for only a few months.

I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I wouldn't wish it on the worst person who ever lived. The most heinous criminal, the most diabolical fiend, the person who caused the worst suffering for the most amount of people honestly does not deserve jail. Not the one I was in, at least.

There's no utility in causing such suffering. If someone is committing bad crimes, just get rid of them. Seriously! Don't make any human suffer such a thing. No matter what they did, they are still a living being. Please!

People flippantly call America's justice system fascist and what-not but it really is worse than you can imagine. By far. I don't know how it came to be so cruel and punishing. I don't think any one human being could sign off on it. Certainly not if they spent a week in the place-- hell, even a day.

Like, for real, make politicians spend a week in such a place-- just a week-- and these institutions would be abolished immediately.

It's mind-boggling. I'm rambling like a motherfucker but I hope I'm getting my point across.

I'd rather be burned over and over in the fires of hell than go back to that jail.

Anyway, AMA.

Smart and level-headed. Thumbs-up, friend.

3. We did buy wedding rings but they're more complex than a solid gold band. They're different designs plus mine was more expensive than hers.

Purposely, or it just happened to land that way? Pretty cool either way, some people would trip about that.

So many of you had your wife pick out the ring, crazy.

I'd love to surprise my wife-to-be but also would hate to disappoint her.

I'm too insane and removed from society at this point in my life to expect a marriage but if I did have one we'd probably just spend the ring money on a really nice vacation and buy incredibly simple rings made of brass or wood or something, lol.

Go someplace we've always wanted to go for a few weeks...you know. Have fun with it. No diamond necessary.

ModernPost posted...
My wife didn't want real diamonds, I spent a decent chunk of change for one but I could have spent way way more.

That's cool man, I hope y'all had some fun with da rest of da money dat you saved afterwards.

TBH all da mega-rich people I know seem like dey don't even enjoy deir money...dey just work and work and keep stacking it up like dey tryna get a hi-score in an arcade videogame or something, lol. I wish dey'd put da controller down and enjoy demselves and pay attention to dey kids a little bit. smh.

(in fairness doe, work is different for dem dan it is for most of us...like, dey ride around on airplanes and schmooze wit even richer people tryna get investments....I can't imagine it's da same as what we call "work"...but still, dey could be relaxing and spending time with deir family like I would do in deir position.........da glitz and da glamour is enticing doe, I guess....)
