I didn't read everything (especially given this framework is 1000 pages), but it sounds more like Data Science is an alternative option, not replacing Algebra 2. One of the main objections seems to be that kids could get bamboozled into taking this instead when it's not necessarily an adequate replacement. This is a fair complaint, but I don't think it's a huge issue if schools are providing adequate guidance.

This is the concern, yeah. If one actually wanted to go into data science (or any quantitative major) they would likely be better served by actually learning algebra II rather than taking a super watered down "data science" class.

Yeah but some school districts probably will follow the suggestions. This all started because SF really did implement a policy where nobody was supposed to take Algebra I before 9th grade (though if your parents were rich/in the know my understanding is that there were workarounds).

My parents are thankfully both still alive, but theyre getting relatively old now (71 and 68) so Ive been thinking about whatll happen when they do pass. I still call my dad almost every day and Im not sure I could handle him dying anytime soon.
