Upon returning to the game, it suddenly occurred to me: it's kinda weird the Velvet Room is even in this game.

I get the wildcard is iconic to Persona, but isn't this already a character action game where each thief has a twist on the moveset and gameplay? The devs probably could've just had Joker be the guy with dark elemental and it'd be fine.
You are right. If you wanted to you could really ignore the Velvet Room for most of the game. Even if you do want to use it, it's a little more barebones and straightforward than it usually is. But it goes without saying it helps to have one party member that has a little bit of every type of skill just in case something like a specific weakness works best in a specific situation.

I have literally no idea how not to get hit. The "Troubling Housemaid" mini boss for example can turn around on a dime, and it's orb attack will straight follow my dodge dash and hit me for like 40% of the character's health + freeze
Yeah, game feels rough like that until you get the flow of minibosses and bosses. Especially the first dungeon. You either need to take them slow and really wait your chance to attack, or else just spam weaknesses as much as you can to stagger them. The game seems designed around wanting you to spam weaknesses as much as possible, even though it feels like it's going against the point of the musou-ish combat. But of course, then you need to more closely manage your SP too.

BBS's combat is jank. That's the only way to put it. Literally everything in the game is either broken good or broken bad. From D-links, Shotlocks, Command Styles, and even regular commands. It makes you wonder how the game is "supposed" to be played because you can randomly break the game open with a bunch of things and a bunch of other things are utterly useless.

Abilities are also kinda jank and the designers kinda cornered themselves with the endgame bosses because of abilities. I know it's not most of the game but it's the part I remember doing the most because of how wonky it gets. The combination of One More, Second Chance, Leaf Bracer means it's pretty hard to die in a conventional way. Made worse because Aqua / Ventus's roll spam is like 90% invincibility frames and so is Thunder Surge. So the super bosses are a horrifying mess of covering the screen in attacks while you i-frame through everything and when you do get hit you get hit a hundred times but can't die until you finally have a millisecond to Leaf Bracer Curaga and repeat until finally One More doesn't activate even though it definitely should have activated and you die.

Digital Devil Saga 2 Satan is probably "harder" than Digital Devil Saga 1 Demi-fiend. Demi-fiend is more random and probably more likely to kill you with timely crits or statuses, but if you do the Pixie MP stall strategy then it's a lot more manageable and there's a lot less to keep track of. If you do it "legit" with Null Sleep to dodge Gaea Rage and all then it's super rough.

DDS2 Satan doesn't really have any cheesy strats - just a long drawn out fight where you need to keep track of a bunch of things and you lose if you mess anything up. Keep track of his turn order rotation so you know when to attack and what to defend with, your buffs so you can constantly reapply them every rotation, have a calculator up so you keep track of his phase pushes, and more. And even doing everything perfect he can still just kill you 45 minutes in. But I still think it's less random than legit Demi-fiend.

Yeah I cheesed him with Sophitia's get-up special. For some reason the AI in that game sucks at defending certain moves so you can loop attacks like that over and over. Without cheese it's pretty rough.

You're literally falling for the most transparent Republican strategy that they've been doing for years - actively kill Democratic policies and then spin around and say "look Democrat voters! they couldn't even pass this thing that we killed. might as well not even vote huh". I can't believe it works on some people.

This case was solely about whether the executive branch has the ability to write off debt. The PPP loans were a bill passed through congress. Student debt forgiveness was an executive order. An executive order that a year prior to Biden writing it Pelosi herself stated that only Congress has the power to write off debt.

This was never legitimate, and no matter how angry people get over being grifted, it doesn't change the simple fact of the case. The president can't erase debt with an executive order. Only Congress can do that. Pelosi should have done it, but she didn't.
It was not an executive order. The Biden Administration was using the HEROES Act which explicitly says that the President can grant relief.

I blame Trump for causing this. Feel better now?
I blame Biden for bailing them out and for not throwing SVB execs in jail. Just like I blame GWB for the Great Recession and Obama for not throwing the Wall Street con artists in jail.
Democrats continuously prop up and enable this shit by not holding people accountable. Yes, Republicans are the root cause, but they're pretty blatantly the party of the rich. Dems are supposed to not be.

Also this.
The people who'd be most affected if FDIC didn't bail them out (again, using big bank money not taxpayer money) would be regular people. SVB's big advertising point was being the bank for tech startups. I'm in tech so weirdly had multiple people in my friend group who would've suddenly lost their paycheck if SVB was allowed to just go totally insolvent and customers only got up to $250,000. I just wanted to be clear on that because you're making it sound like all the SVB customers are bajillionaire individuals, and not just regular payroll departments. And others might also be under the misunderstanding the federal government just flew some money over from Fort Knox to pay back the bajillionaires, rather than the reality which is that the federal government demanded banks in general pay for this bank's fuckups. All in all it's difficult to see how stopping at $250,000 would've been good for regular people in any way. If anything doing that would've benefitted the uber-rich more.

If you want to argue that SVB individuals should be more harshly punished then I don't know anyone will disagree with you. Unfortunately that might be hard since the Trump administration made what their accounting legal. Anyway I think that's a slightly orthogonal sentiment from the one the OP of this topic was trying to convey.

It's OUR insurance money. They admitted that if banks kept failing, they'd have to play favorites and let the smaller ones fail while saving the TBTF ones (which again, shouldn't fucking exist). There's a limit to the FDIC insurance money. They plundered from the safety net the rest of us depositors rely upon to save these shit bags who have more wealth than any of us will ever even sniff at yet can't be bothered to diversify their accounts or buy their own supplemental insurance coverage.

Oh, they absolutely will.
If you don't have 250,000 sitting with one institution then the safety net hasn't changed for you at all. If you do have 250,000 sitting with one institution then this whole event basically told you that they'll make exceptions to pay people out over 250,000 anyway. You don't need to worry about the "plundering". The entities who got fucked here the most because of the plundering were the TBTF banks who paid in to bail out banks with shitty accounting and are now going to be charged more to make up the difference in the fund. If your bank starts charging you more now to make up the amount they got fucked over on then you can be mad, but the entity and actions you should really be blaming and most mad at is the previous administration loosening banking regulations which allowed SVB to manage their finances so horrifically that all of this happened.

2. Biden administration wants to help Ukraine, and the Republican party's current policies today are mostly based on being contrarian toward whatever Democrats are doing.
3. They can loosely try to tie it into other political news stories of the past to create some broad conspiracy narrative - particularly the Hunter Biden Burisma stuff that was in Ukraine. It's a little misleading to say it's the federal government who bailed them out because it makes it sound like the federal government used taxpayer money. FDIC is funded by insurance premiums banks pay into. So it's more like the federal government makes functional banks bail out non-functional banks. You could however make an argument that those banks who paid into FDIC will pass more of the costs on to customers like you and I though.

Part of why DCAU Batman is so great is because this isn't true at first. Earlier on in BTAS, it felt like Bruce Wayne was who he really wanted to be, but he knew Bruce was limited in what he could do. But as he gets older and more jaded, Bruce Wayne truly starts becoming the mask.
You could probably make an argument either way on this. One of my favorite small details in BTAS is how Kevin Conroy does the gruff Batman voice whenever he's in the cave or talking to Alfred or Robin and switches to the friendly Bruce voice when he's talking to anyone else in public. In a lot of scenes he's even out of costume when he's doing the Batman voice. To me it says something about how much the Bruce persona is an act, and how he's naturally in "Batman mode".
https://youtu.be/fSSQypRvfWY?t=87

In The New Batman Adventures this small touch got dropped though and he's pretty much always doing Batman voice even in public as Bruce Wayne, which is sad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t7yiN_Z5eg

Superman's kind of complicated and I think you can fairly define a few personas he wears.

- The "Clark Kent" that he is in Smallville around Ma and Pa Kent is probably his most genuine and the one he grew up as before adopting the Superman side
- The bumbling clumsy Clark Kent he plays in Metropolis to avert suspicion of being Superman is a character
- The Superman who acts as a paragon of justice inspiring hope to citizens of Metropolis by calmly and as-peacefully-as-possible stopping bank robbers and helping kittens in trees is kind of a character
- The Superman who goes all-out no-holds-barred killing alien dictators is less of a character and more genuine

But I know the Kill Bill canon is that Superman is his real identity so we can also just go with that

He is Naoto-sexual, anyone can confirm that.
Mostly yeah Naoto's a big part of why it becomes a plot point.

Naoto expresses interest in Kanji (for investigative reasons). Kanji interprets Naoto's interest as something more affectionate, and at this time Kanji thinks Naoto is a boy. Kanji is confused about how or why he's interested in Naoto - and this confusion gets exacerbated by the fact that Kanji's also extremely insecure about his feminine hobbies. Later finds out that Naoto is a girl and he's still interested in her, maybe even moreso than earlier.

Other points:
- During the camping trip - Kanji gets a nosebleed seeing Chie and Yukiko in their bathing suits.
- In P4A Kanji gets flustered and blushes when Yu stares too hard at him, again misinterpreting something for affectionate interest (but some people say this scene is part-flanderization of his character though, since the spinoffs all flanderize everyone's surface-level personality traits)
- A person's shadow self is a part of them. Not their entire person, but a small piece of their person that they don't want to admit is a part of them usually because they don't want others to see them that way. Kanji's shadow self is obviously flamboyantly feminine to the extreme, and that is a piece of Kanji, but it's more complicated than that.

Overall I think you can just say that he's a confused 15 year old or whatever trying to figure out his own sexuality. But yeah mostly it's just Naoto.

The money didnt go from my bank account, it went from my Venmo balance, I never transferred the money to my account
It doesn't matter. How the scam goes is like:
  1. Guy gets ahold of a fraudulent account like a stolen credit card
  2. Adds the card to his venmo account and "accidentally" venmo's you hundreds of dollars using the stolen card
  3. Removes the stolen card and adds a legitimate card or account to his venmo
  4. You transfer the hundreds of dollars back. He withdraws the money to his legitimate account
Worst case for you - the stolen account holder sees the fraudulent transactions and it gets reversed and you lose the money you sent back. Less worse case - the transaction doesn't get reversed but you just "washed" the money for him. You don't lose anything but did help that guy steal money. Best case - some person legitimately accidentally sent you money.

It's possible it was an accident but this is also a very common scam. The money sent to you was from a stolen account. Then they add a real account on their side and your "real" money gets sent to that. Similar to the very popular "fake check" scam. What you should do is tell them to contact Venmo support to sort it out.

Preferring the SNES translation is 100% just purists not liking something different. You can read interviews with Woolsey where he talks about how his translations were super rushed due to time commitments, he had to just guess who was talking in some scenes because none of the text was organized, and he was super super limited by data constraints on the cartridge itself and so constantly had to cut dialogue as short as possible knowing that it'd sometimes lose some of the meaning. I don't think the DS translator had to deal with as much of that at all - and the DS translator talks about how he changed some other things that never made a lot of sense in the SNES version like how Frog talks in Ye Olde English, presumably because he's from the Middle Ages, but every other character in the Middle Ages speaks in Modern English. Persona 1 is good if you like retro RPGs. If you play it expecting anything resembling Persona 3-5 you would be disappointed. But I think it's very good for what it is and if you understand what you're getting into. On the other hand, if you already know you're not really into retro RPGs but you are interested to see the gist of what Persona 1 is about, I highly recommend reading the Persona 1 manga. It does a pretty great job adapting the plot. It does change and add things in some places, but I think in other places it explains things even better than the game does.

Persona 2 honestly has pretty bad gameplay, to put it bluntly. You don't play Persona 2 for the gameplay. But with that being said, a lot of people will swear that Persona 2 has the most interesting story in the series, especially part 2 Eternal Punishment (Persona 2 is two games to be clear - Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment).

Let's say her account of events is correct, what would you rather her do? 5 teens come up on you as you're about to leave and try to force the bike back into the dock. Why shouldn't a pregnant woman call for help if her version is correct?
Do you think it's reasonable for a pregnant woman to force her pregnant belly onto a stranger and then yell at the stranger that they're hurting their fetus? Would it not be reasonable if you're a concerned pregnant woman to take a step backward if your fetus is in the middle of being harmed? The "help me help me" might be plausible if everything else in the video isn't in the video. I can't believe I have to explain why this is a Karen thing to do.

Whether she deserved the bike or not she'd be a Karen for pretending to break down and cry, shouting for help, and shoving her stomach into the boy's arm while exclaiming that he's hurting her fetus. She knew what kind of appearance all of this would have to onlookers when it's a white woman and a young black man. That part keeps getting overlooked for some reason and makes it so that she's at best a horrible person who deserved the bike and at worst a horrible person trying to take a bike.

I've been reading a lot of Go Nagai's stuff and he has a bunch of pseudo-sequels and crossover events with his different stories. But with most of the crossovers, the implication that the stories are the same universe doesn't make a ton of sense. Moreso just fanservice.

It's very cool. But I do have more love toward SC3's Chronicles of the Sword side game mode

I also thought the cast in 4 were adults but it turns out they're just college-aged.
Yeah I think it's ambiguous and they do look like young adults. I always assumed Flynn is 18-ish because they all do a kind of coming-of-age style ritual at the beginning of the game and later than 18 seems late for that. I don't think there's anything in the game or in the artbook saying specifically

There's a 0% chance of either of these things happening. Mainline SMT is where the adults from around the world deal with world-ending problems. Persona is where teens in Japan deal with world-ending problems at night while going to school in the day.
Mainline SMT is almost always young Japanese people too. Strange Journey is the big outlier (and fans sometimes debate whether it's mainline or not). But the numbered SMT games are all highschool aged protagonists in Tokyo.

Lesser known fact is Joker (or "P5 Hero") was going to be in P4 Ultimax and there's still voice lines in the game for him including his then planned main Persona Mephistopheles

TopicIf done right, the DCU should blow MCU out of the water.

It's actually impressive how utterly fucked the DCEU is/was at developing a coherent universe. I'm a DC fan more than a marvel fan (because of the DCAU) so I was cheering for it all along but just constantly disappointed at the DCEU's missteps and how there's more bad movies than there are watchable ones. Let alone good ones.

It seems like it's more and more in vogue to talk shit on the MCU now but it puts into perspective how difficult it was for MCU to build what it built. MCU's mids are far higher than DCEU's mids.
