I've Ignored a few people, but only used the Block systems once, when some users started a personal argument in my topic and one wouldn't cease it. Even then, I unblocked them a week later.

I've seen the Block feature used poorly as well, at times when Ignore would be far better. Such as users who would make most of the ongoing event topics for a game Blocking someone they simply don't like. Not even a trouble maker, they simply wanted to drive this user off over a different opinion. The user can't see most of the important topics, and not like there were multiple people making topics about the same event either. -_-

The type of users who like to obsessively argue, the topic derailers, disruptive trolls, and type of people who love to call any contrary opinion trolling, they're the type of users you're always better off blocking.

Not really, but ignores and blocks help with some problems. However, any dedicated troll / stalker will have workarounds.

The thing that'd make this site tolerable -- which we'll never get -- is a set of consistent, non-arbitrary rules evenly enforced by unbiased, well-informed mods.

I don't think that's true.

This.

Yeah, there are some chronic spammers who will render an entire board almost unusable.

Yeah, well, I can't count on the mods ever doing the right thing around here, so I have decided to take matters into my own hands.

That and I noticed how there's particular kind of users who are prone to creating problems for people.

Block feature if for the weak. I don't care if people use it though as it's easy enough for me to log out and read posts from users who have blocked me IF I care that much.

Opening a link in a private window is the easiest way to read blocked comments if you care.

It's by far the most effective means of eliminating the trolls. See some users who are just trying to be insulting, troll, or are just generally responding negatively? Block them! Now they can't even participate in any of your topics anymore, and you don't have to interact with them anymore. It's become a vital feature.

When you say memes do you mean the original recurring idea definition, fads within online communities, rage comics and image macros, mass produced lazy edits with meme in the title designed to harvest views from drones, that thing people do where they use the word meme whenever they can't think of the word they actually mean, or something else?

I guess it would be more of the "rage comic" variety, the kind of aggressive memes trolls love to use.

The meme scene is dominated by kids and young adults, but there are literally memes for/by Karens, boomers, religions, political parties, and just older adults in general. You're never too old to sit back and laugh at whatever it is you find funny, regardless of whether it takes the form of a Hallmark romantic komedy, some witty educated stand-up, or some repurposed still images.

Hostility aside, BloodMoon is not wrong.

Eh boomer memes are a cringe of their own. Then again I am mainly talking about the aggressive e-warrior memes, trolling in other words.

You're never too old for memes. You can become a grumpy, boring ass bitch with time but that's less to do with age and more to do with how suck you are.

See, when anyone posts something like this past the age of 30 it is simply sad. You can't even get mad at it despite the antagonistic intentions.

They are all basically high difficulty hardcore sweaty gaming porn, probably the single player equivalent of competitive gaming where bragging rights and trying to overcome high adversity is the appeal to some people.

While that works for some, it doesn't for others. You really gotta have a drive to play games like that, and I have always preferred far more relaxing experiences.

Lol no, that was the beginning of the decline. Golden era was 90's - mid 00's. After that is when online became a big thing and they started updating games and selling DLC.

It was the golden era for online gaming though, the early 360 era at least. Everyone was on headsets, everyone was far more relaxed and social, it was before everything got all sweaty.

Anonymity doesn't adequately explain it actually, given we see the same behavior in spaces where that anonymity is no longer a factor.

In reality I think its the detachment from face-to-face communication.

Anecedotally, I like a lot of people am very familiar with how incredibly abusive people can be when calling into a customer service line. But Im willing to bet the vast majority of those people wouldn't act the way they do if they were talking to me in person.

I feel like there is more to it than that, because I try to be nice to people even if I'm on the phone with tech support. There's no reason to be mean and nasty to them. It's gotta be some kind of cluster-B personality disorder or something.
