The shit you are referencing, if I can think of anything at all, is that in the past I've talked about how age is a really shitty proxy for brain development, because brain development is incredibly variable across individuals. That there are edge cases where those younger than 18 have more mature brain development than those that are above 18 and vice versa. That the court systems should just judge, on an individual basis, consent issues. Because those who cannot consent are subject to rape, whether they be 17 or 19. I am literally an author on several scientific papers on adolescent brain development, which informs this opinion.

Based on this report, it's unclear that he understands any of that. He's extremely developmentally delayed with some type of disorder that has psychotic breaks from reality. The right treatment and environment and he could probably live a reasonably harm free life. But it sounds like nobody in his life has decided it's worthwhile to try.

I would say if the anxiety generalizes outside the scope of normal behavior (as in, outside expected contexts) is when the diagnosis would be more likely. As it should, as that anxiety at that point will no longer serve a functional purpose, and will likely interfere with everyday life.

Clinicians understand that there are normal responses to abnormal situations, and abnormal responses to normal situations. It's literally in the diagnosis criteria of every mental illness.

That kid, however, would not be diagnosed with a clinical anxiety disorder!

I mean, if the US provided clear support, boots on the ground support, early on when Putin was building his forces around the Ukrainian border, my guess is that there would have been a good chance of avoiding this whole conflict up front. Putin spent months building troups around the border, gauging international support. Probably only made the decision to invade because it was clear that Ukraine was going to get no direct international support.
