I feel like I mentioned aging poorly several times in here already, but no movie aged worse for me that Borat. And it wasn't even Borat's fault. It's me! THE PHONE CALLS ARE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE.

When I say Borat aged bad, I don't mean in terms of outdated humor (although someone not from Kazahkstan doing a horrendously bad accent and sounding like someone recently thawed from when he was frozen in 1968 probably isn't the best look). I mean that humor just doesn't work for me any more because I am a cynical, pessimistic bastard. Oh, you went down south and found people saying eggregiously homophobic shit? Ok. You found a group of three frat bros that basically advocate rape? Yeah, that's sort of what they do.

High school Suprak had a much higher view of people, so when I saw this I remember it being this incredible film that really challenged my perceptions of things. But now I'm like "what is this low hanging fruit and why should I be interested". I'm surprised they didn't say worse things, honestly. Stuff like the Daily Show or even Cohen's most recent work on HBO is far more interesting because they go further, point out hypocrisy, and challenge people in power. Here Cohen is just taking a microscope to the taint of America and we're supposed to be surprised when he finds shit. It was neither funny nor interesting to me, and his shtick got old pretty fast.

And the scripted stuff is somehow even worse. This was hard to get through, as is any film featuring a fully nude 600 pound man running down a hotel hallway. Borat is barely a character, and is more so just an empty slate that exists so people are comfortable saying terrible things around him. I'm not at all interested in who he is or what he's doing, and his journey to kidnap Pamela Anderson because he's from Kazahkstan and that's how things supposedly work there would probably be offensive if I was interested enough to care. There are barely jokes in these portions and I feel like they were struggling to string the interview portions together.

Like Life of Brain, this is another one I thought would be top 10 going in because of my old memories from when I saw it the first time. "Oops"

There aren't any big changes I'd make now. NATM and Interview both probably jump a couple of spots. The one thing that sticks out to me is my #11 is too low. It could honestly go as high as 6 or so.

Boo Black Dynamite going out! I know I had that as my 12, but it was the lowest ranked movie I would've been quite happy winning. It is just a lot of fun and I loved the style.

I'm pretty shocked Holy Grail was the one to miss out on the top 10. I just sort of assumed that would do quite well and I'd be one of the lower rankers.

I thought it was mostly pretty good, even on a rewatch. I remember watching this the first time way back in high school because I friend of mine sat me down and insisted I watch it, and sort of side-eyeing him like "why did you insist I had to watch this?" It sort of goes back and forth between stuff I find pretty funny and stuff I kind of cringe my way through. Very British humor, and very dated British humor at that, which is something that just never resonated with me as well as it should.

Also, much more than Life of Brain (even though I liked this significantly more), this felt like a loose collection of sketches to me. It is very loosely tied together and I found the quality of the scenes varied fairly significantly depending on what they were doing. It was mostly the same as I remembered it, which unfortunately isn't the kind of movie I will want to watch through again for another decade or so.

I'll put my money on Austin Powers now. That really looks like the odd one out up there.

Oh yay my lowest remaining film! I only have my 25 left in terms of big numbers, although I have several in the higher teens as well that I didn't necessarily dislike but were more in the "pretty alright" territory for me.

Zoolander is another that did not age well for me. I remember thoroughly enjoying this movie and still using some of the quotes amongst friends at times. But rewatching it was an utter chore. I totally agree with the other write-ups calling it obnoxious and cringey because those were the my first thoughts when it came to describing it as well. Ben Stiller is awful in this and he's another of those late 2000's comic actors that I'm kind of shocked had the career they did because he's not good in this. I know nepo baby is the phrase du jour, but man oh man when that some day works its way into Webster's, I hope that the picture they use next to it is Ben Stiller.

Has anyone done a "Rank Your Favorite Christmas/Holiday movies" topic before? Might be a good one for a seasonal ranking at some point.

I also had another idea that I'm not sure would work but we could do a "Rank Our Favorites" topic where we submit some favorite movies, non-specific to genre, anonymously and then rank them. I hadn't decided if I wanted to do one where we actually submit movies we think are great artistically or guilty pleasure movies or a mixture of both.

Hello there best friend who never disagrees with me on anything!

I thought Enchanted was perfectly fine, but I also thought it could've been better. I had seen it before but unlike a decent chunk the rewatch didn't really change my opinion and it still held up about as well as I remembered. I thought the songs were pretty meh (with the exception of That's How You Know which was decent) and I feel like it didn't lean into the concept as hard as it could've.

Still, it was pretty fun and I agree Amy Adams is awesome here. That's the sort of movie I can put on in the background while I'm doing something else and half pay attention to in the future!

Community - Wow this one fits almost too well. I don't remember all the other shows in the original 64 but I feel like Community might've won this round outright regardless of what it was going against.

The Rehearsal - This one kind of wins by default although I would love a darker grittier Death to Barney black comedy if the category wasn't Wes Anderson specific.

Loved my Top 8. #9-18 were good. #19-22 were meh. #23-30 were painful.

Christmas Vacation was tricky to rate because I respect its creativity and attention to detail, but I also find it to be an overdone slog at times. Honestly it could've ranked anywhere from 9-16 depending on my mood when I submitted my rankings.

Ah fair enough. I remember someone in the horror movie ranking was talking about how much they hated whatever their number three was and I felt like that had to be miserable for them to watch that many movies they didn't like. At least partially enjoying the top 18 sounds about right imo.

Christmas Vacation is extremely nostalgic for me and I would guess I've seen that more times than literally any other movie. Watched it every year as a kid and I still watch it at least once a year during the holidays. It is unironically my second favorite Christmas movie and my siblings and I still quote it all the time.

I have no clue where it would've ranked if it was my first time seeing it though. I feel like a good chunk of my love is just nostalgia.

I'll go with Borat for next to fall.

Though Ive seen bits and pieces of Christmas Vacation through the years, I never actually watched it straight through until this project. Its a fun movie and every scene feels like it was painstakingly crafted to torpedo 80s consumerism, but something about this one doesnt click for me. The problem might be that there are too many characters, too many subplots, and too much of everything, really. It tries to cram as much Christmas as possible into its runtime, and by the time Clarks brother got involved, I already had enough on my plate.

The humor was hit-and-miss for me. Some jokes are absolute classics while others like the dried-out turkey seem absurdly over the top for this story. C+

This was your 10?!? This seems super negative.

Id say I really enjoyed my top 11, thought my next 8 were pretty good to okayish, and then disliked my bottom 11.

There were several movies on the list that I thought were dumb, but this is the only one that made me think maybe I was dumb. Or at least dumber that I used to be. This used to be one of my favorite movies. Or, at least, high school Suprak claimed it was. I had it on my Facebook and everything! That's how official it was. I didn't remember any specifics, at all, which should've been my first red flag during my rewatch. I could still recite scenes from Holy Grail basically line for line but I remembered absolutely nothing about Life of Brain (other than the ending song - which is an absolute banger and better than anything in that FRAUD Popstar). But I remember thinking it was super clever and was like the "smart" Monty Python movie.

And uh...

Er...

I'm not sure what happened. I looked up some stuff after watching it and I was finding it on lists EVERYWHERE for best comedies of all time. So it has to just be a me problem, I guess. What is wrong with my brain now? Was I a pretentious little twerp in high school or am I just dumb now? Probably both, but still, I just did not find this all that funny. It wasn't completely unwatchable and I had I good number of those "nose snort almost laughs" going on but that was about it. There was a lot of stuff where I'd be like "oh that's clever" but not actually laugh.

Also, there's beating a dead horse and then there's what this movie does which is beat the horse, beat it until it's dead, summon the world's best horse doc to bring it back to life, nurse it back to health, and get it back into racing form over the course of a long grueling yearlong process, and then subsequently beating it to death again. Man does this movie love telling you the same joke eighteen times until your brain starts to reassess what comedy is. That biggus dickus scene went on for, and I'm not exaggerating, an entire month. I just checked and it is still going on right now with no indication that it will ever stop.

I started this project thinking this will be in my top five, and leave it having an identity crisis. THANKS A LOT, TANGY
