No, I see the argument that youre trying to make.

I dont agree that its sensible to suppress speech like the quote from the article through criminal charges because some deranged lunatic might use it as fuel for violence he already wouldve perpetrated.

You cant make the abstract argument that these types of comments lead to trans murders. You have nothing to back that up, whereas history has laid out plain that suppression of speech by the government is a very bad thing.

When the party in power changes, or pushing for transgender rights are no longer in fashion for the politicians, other speech will be criminalized.

Can you criticize politicians, or are you inciting violence by doing so?

I would choose not to give the government any more power, at every turn.

You wont get any freedoms back.

And what is done for a good cause today will be used to hamstring you tomorrow.

Thats reportedly the comment under investigation, and the 3 years is on the table due to it being public and not a private communication.

Is she an asshole for the comment? Sure. But I dont see a call or even an implicit incitement to violence.

The article, or the slew of other articles about the incident from other outlets, outline the law. Will she actually go to prison? Highly unlikely.

But is it asinine that prison is even in the range of possible sentences for speech? Yes. Completely.

You cant legislate hate away, no matter how hard you try. And in trying to suppress hate speech by criminal charges, youre handing over power to the government to then determine what is considered hate speech.

The same government who lies consistently to the American public about any number of issues, to fan the flames in the direction they want.

And, of course, such state censorship and state violence have always been leveled against the left and not the right in this country.

Youre so busy identifying with a side that youre willingly going to give up rights to toe the line.

The right has attempted censorship plenty of times. Thats the point; the government, as a whole, is salivating at the opportunity to grab more control over the American people and youre here worried about left and right.

They all want to control you, while reaping the benefits of backdoor deals and astronomical profits from insider trading.

Especially when you're talking about a country where the harshest prison is probably a far sight nicer than a minimum security American prison.

Okay? Its still prison for speech. Its ridiculous.

You do understand that when you put the ability to govern what people say in the hands of the government, youve lost all control of any type of dissent, right?

A woman in Norway is facing up to 3 years in prison on criminal hate-speech charges after saying that a man cannot become a lesbian. Tonje Gjevjon, a lesbian filmmaker and actress, was informed on November 17 that she was under investigation for speaking out against prominent Norwegian activist Christine Jentoft on Facebook. Jentoft is a transgender female that often refers to herself as a lesbian mother. Jentoft previously accused another woman, Christina Ellingsen, of transphobia for a similar claim. Ellingsen is also under investigation and faces three years in jail if found guilty.

The post on Gjevjons Facebook page under investigation read "Its just as impossible for men to become a lesbian as it is for men to become pregnant. Men are men regardless of their sexual fetishes." She has said that she intentionally posted her Facebook message to draw attention to Norways hate speech laws. Gjevjons comments appear to be under investigation for falling under a 2020 amendment to the countrys penal code that added "gender identity and gender expression" under protected categories from hate speech. People found guilty of hate speech face a fine or up to one year in prison for private remarks, and a maximum of three years for public comments.

Hate speech should never be tolerated. Glad she can get jail time for her shitpost on facebook.

Rational people still care about these things. Its only those on the fringes who selectively care based on party affiliation.

People in the government, who are entrusted with our secrets and information, should be of a better moral character. This isnt hard.

I enjoyed it. I thought the humor was good, the characters were all entertaining, and I enjoyed the style.
