People only invoke "human nature" when they want to say that being a selfish asshole is "normal". It's not, and you need to let go of whatever pseudoscientific notion of "human nature" you pulled out of econ101.
Are you never not condescending?
I do think it's human nature. Many people so good things and are truly good people, but there are bad people that do bad things. I don't see what is so controversial about there being a spectrum of human behavior. I don't think it's controversial to believe there is no system that can overcome human behavior. You can shit on my intelligence and education, both are subpar, but this seems pretty basic to me. Either way, you could also be cool and engage, I'm open to new ideas and thinking.

I'm not suggesting anything. Just saying that when a system fails innocent people, they still need to be saved. Clearly the system in place will not do the trick.
There is no system that can do the trick.
There is can overcome human nature.
If you're wating or fighting for a paradigm shift, I don't think you'll see it. What you want basically requires the emergence of some kind of neo-human. In short, you're expectations don't meet reality. Stop writing yourself off and stop expecting the rest of the world to do the work.

I do buy entertainment because I am cursed with being able to do barely anything to save the world. I don't have billions of dollars. I don't even have an outgoing attitude. I'm terrified of public. All I can do is vote, donate and go to events here and there, and distract myself from reality with fun diversions. But it's all just distractions from the truth and hoping things don't get so bad it can't even be escaped from temporarily.

And I have to ask what the cool apathetic people even find to get up every day. If you truly think it's human nature that life is meaningless and most people are destined to suffer and die at the hands of others, then what is even your motivation?
We all have our reasons, while I understand your circumstances, it doesn't absolve you. Not when you're saying it no one deserves to be happy. You're a good dude. Take what happiness you can from that, it doesn't need to be anything grand.

Your entire life is dependent on politics. Every single thing you can do or are not allowed to do in public hinges on politics. It's far from useless, and evil people sure get a lot of use out of them to destroy the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Why should anyone be allowed to be happy while those innocent people aren't allowed to be?

Why are you on here and not trying to end suffering?
Do you buy video games or movies? Did you put your wants above their needs? Kinda, doesn't make you or anyone bad, its just fundamentaly human. Have empathy, but you can't save the world, bro. If you try, it will just make you miserable, without benefit to the world.

I would never ever change my opinion just because someone with said opinion was rude. That's asinine.

You know what I hate most of all?

This type of shit:

"Well one side says that we should all get along and try to respect each other's beliefs, but the other side says all non-Christians are evil and should be made to suffer. Maybe we can compromise and find some middle ground here?"

That's where moderates are landing for me. Trying to treat the current Republican party like they have legitimate opinions. They've shown you who they are over, and over, and over, and over again. They don't want negotiation and they don't want compromise. They want the US to become a Theocracy ruled by their PARTICULAR branch of their PERSONAL religion. And fuck anyone who doesn't agree. The GOP in a nutshell.

Anyone who identifies as a member of that party AT BEST accepts and enables these loonies.

There are many beliefs and opinions on each side. Being moderate doesn't mean compromising and meeting in the middle, it isn't that "genocide, no genocide, some genocide" argument. It just means your beliefs have a tendency to be closer to the middle of a political spectrum.

If someone agrees with me, then why does it matter how I speak? People don't have strong beliefs if they can be turned off by someone else with those beliefs sharing them the wrong way.

I've changed throughout my life, but never just because someone was too aggressive or annoying with sharing beliefs I agreed with.
What? People aren't agreeing, then changing their opinion because you insult them. It just makes them not want to interact with you. You push like minded people and potential allies away for what? If it's important to do the right thing, what good comes from treating like-minded people away?

Because thinking we know everything is what keeps us from understanding each other. So, whenever someone is holding someone else down to step on them to get on their pedestal, It feels like they believe they're smarter than those people and don't need to try to understand them anymore. I just like trying to push everyone onto the same plateau. Because nothing ever gets done when everyone is just arguing about how much better they are than the next person. We're all idiots with a very small fraction of understanding of the world. Some accept it and some don't.

Word, man.
It just as important, if not more important, to be critical of your thoughts and feelings. We all have our cognitive biases, if we don't attack them, we fall further from truth. It doesn't matter how well intentioned we are. I believe knowing this is how we ALL are really allows a person to be bit more empathetic.

I don't often agree with VeggetaX, but I think he pegged TC

I'm starting to see that these kinda people don't care that they have this reputation. I see it everywhere, including here. I think it might be because they feel those actions or emotions are justified to what they're saying or doing so they don't care if it makes them look bad. A strong reaction even if it comes off insulting or mocking means strong conviction. Being an asshole shows strong conviction. Thoughts?

TC truly does have the moral high ground, but again, he's operating on such a narrow slice of reality. This would be so bad if he would reflect and understand that notions of morality are rarely simple or a dichotomy, where he goes really wrong is to call anyone that doesn't only see his narrow view as immoral or delusional. Shitting on people doesn't elevate you above others. Many people in this topic have beliefs that seem to be damn close to his, but he shits all over them. Seriously, man. Be cool.
