I'm happy to answer questions or argue absurd accusations thrown at me. This is GameFaqs, the average age is close to 40, and people here still scream for "proof" whenever you say you have a girlfriend. It is what it is, but the reality is of the 120k average users that voted in the "Poll of the Day" from 2011, at least 75% of them went on to get careers, buy houses, get married, and raise families. Current Events is not the majority, they are the outlier. It's just that as people grow old and take on more adult responsibilities, they post on GameFaqs less. Probably because they game less. For whatever reason I went the opposite, as I got into the office life, I posted more. Perhaps because I was never a big gamer, and always just used this site for the social function of it. I have not played a video game in almost two years (MK11 being my last). In my 20's I was never in front of a computer, and didn't have a good phone. I was always on the go. As I got into the corporate world, I'm always staring at my Phone or PC -- and in the downtime between meetings and stuff I find myself retreating to GameFaqs for entertainment. It still amazes me how the people who post here are still under the fallacy that everyone whos ever used this website is somehow a giant loser. As if every single Game Developer between the age of 30 - 45 didn't at one point or another have a GameFaqs account while growing up. But at last, Im actually suprised. Its common practice for the public facing employees of a company to fully dox themselves, especially during a change of ownership. Game Devs, Comicbook Writers, and yes even Website admins are fully doxxed. In most cases it is an afterthought, because its just such a normal thing to do. Heck, its industry standard. This gross over reaction to an employee politely introducing himself is just a sign of how out of date GameFaqs has truly become, and how important it is to modernize the site. To our new Admin DToast, I apologize for the brash welcome you have received thus far, and and want you to take solace in know that not all of GameFaqs follows the posting culture set forth by Current Events and some of GameFaqs other, more hardcore, niche communities. In 2011 the poll of the day averaged 120k+ votes, and was ranked #81 on Alexa.com fir total web traffic. Those users were largely normal well functioning adults, it just so happened that as they aged further into adulthood, they also took on more adult responsibilities, and thus posted less. This allowed, the very small niche of users that never really met any of their adult milestones to post more. An unfortunate byproduct of that is the vibe of the Current Events board. Unfortunately, as time has gone on and user acquisition efforts to attract new, younger, more modern userbase have failed (or frankly never got off the ground in the first place), the older Average Joe audience that only games occasionally have deterred off the site bit-by-bit, year after year. Without the aforementioned users being acquired to replace them, it means that the ratio of normal everyday adult gamers towellCEmen (which is what we call users who frequent this board) have kind of equaled out. Its actually about 50/50 now. Current Events would to believe they are now the majority of the daily active users, but they arent yet. Just go reference the Valentines Day Poll of the Day from last week, that shows 40% of GameFaqs users have a significant other. The normal, Ad Revenue producing, audience still exists, and can be grown. They just need to be catered to a bit more. Im positive that Fandom can do it, and so wish you all the best of luck! The vibe here use to be pretty neutral back in its heyday, where everyone was an awkward teenager & young adult, thus didn't really care about politics yet. As time's gone on and folks have aged into adulthood, taken on new responsibilities, and have had much less time to intereact w/ GameFaqs...the people who do have the time to spend all day on here have taken over the "vibe," and thus, have shifted the culture of GameFaqs to be a place where only a certain niche of people can thrive. Shifted from "cool place to chat about nerd interests with diverse people from all around the globe" to "safe haven for long standing internet denizens" That's as nice as I can put it. But a place like 4Chan or ResetEra In a nutshell, GameFaqs would have to modernize the site to appeal to a younger demographic, while making a "play nice" rule to allow all discussions, so long as both sides are cordial. Or they could go the other route, and institute strict topicality -- meaning, get rid of boards like Current Events & Politics, and just focus on games & nerd interests. This is as nice as I can say it. I've made tons of analytical posts in the past filled with long exhausting rants that nobody reads as to why GameFaqs is actually dying off. | STEROLIZER 02/02/23 4:35:20 PM #23 | I got warned for this topic on the Martial Arts board: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/212-martial-arts/80306771 Some guy from the "Slap Topic", that recently went to 500 posts here on CE, found that I had made a topic on the Martial Arts Board from a month earlier admonishing Dana White for slapping his wife. I had been a pretty big Dana White supporter up until that point. I credited him with taking UFC to the next level, and found his "give no fucks" attitude entertaining. But, he slapped his wife, so he'll always be piece of trash to me. So anyhow, that guy decided to sign into a two week old alt-account, and troll me into saying something moddable. I actually didn't think that I took the bait, but I guess I did :-/ He basically downplayed Domestic Abuse, and made fun of me for making the topic. I replied to him that in order for me to take his replies on this subject seriously that he would have to show me proof that he had healthy relationship with women <-- only I said this in a more "tounge n cheek" way that I'm not going to repeat, but I'm sure y'all can figure it out. He then told said I wasn't worth his time because I was just a lonely incel. I then responded by taking a selfie in real time with the date I was on -- we were cuddling on the couch watching TV. This guy then insulted both of our appearances, and then also gave me some relationship advice to not force her to watch Moon Knight (a show I like) because Moon Knight sucks. I then replied that oddly enough she actually forced me to rebinge Moon Knight the other day, because she knows I like the character, and she wants to be able to enjoy the same things I like -- which I found really sweet. This guy then marked my posts, deleted all of his posts, and then closed his account. Then I was set to warn the following morning, because it was deemed "trolling" to ask him for proof that he had healthy relationships with women. Even though when pressed by him, I immediately responded w/ proof. I disputed it. I thought it was a clever way to dismiss an obvious throwaway account that was trolling me for taking a stand against domestic violence -- but you know, I'm STEROLIZER.
