I don't know how it is now, but when I used to go it was easily the best deal for miles and people would bench up to around 500.

This was when it was originally hated and dismissed for lunk alarms and pizza and whatever else. The only time I ever heard a lunk alarm was an accident. Imo it is (or was) definitely a good starting place, and you could get pretty ripped. A great place to stay in shape, or get in better shape.

Way back when, it was easily the best deal if you were homeless. Hot showers, tables, food. Just don't come in looking like a junkie.

Some are ineffective. I remember hearing about this mma guy who fought a lot kung fu guys in China. It was clear mma was far more effective, but the chinese government didn't like that their traditional martial art was shown to be ineffectual. They ruined the guys life. They even had to rid the judging of a fight just so their kung fu master could get a draw with the guy.

Just by practicality, by physics, there's nothing to counter BJJ that isn't already part of BJJ. Martial arts has already hit that level of global exposure that really separates the chaff from the wheat. The next "meta" is generally going to be some sort of focus on an aspect of an already established martial art, to counter whoever is dominant at the time.

Ah, okay. My mind went to him not being able to walk in a more permanent sense. I watched a pretty depressing video of a MMA fighter doing his intro calisthenics over the years and it was pretty crushing by the end when he couldn't even bend over properly.

I am entirely certain I am tolerated by a wider range of people than you are.

I was going to say, it's easier to have guy friends, just on the basis of not needing to hold back what you're really thinking on that sort of "you got fat" basis,

I've never actually had an intimate friendship with a woman that didn't result in some sort of sexually-related relationship termination. I've had a lot of coworkers who were great, I'd consider them friends in that context, but only that context.
