On the topic of stealing, did they change the mechanics in this game to try to reduce save scumming? I tried to steal a 65% item after stealing a 100% item and failed twice in a row. So, I then reset about 3-4 times and had the same result each time. I finally changed it to attempt the 65% steal before the 100% steal and it worked the first try then.

FWIW, I'm not save scumming that much, largely because it's just not worth the time to do so. There's a lot of 80% steal items that I'm just leaving for now, but if there's a good item with a high chance, and I fail several times in a row, then I'd rather just cut my losses at that point.

Been playing some more. Mostly just been doing some chapters that were in the initial towns before recruiting anyone else. I passed by Agness town since I didnt feel like doing more chapter 1s. Its been nice playing with a full party. Also found an optional dungeon that was around my level. I havent yet made it to true chapter 2 towns yet.

it still feels weird that you can just casually steal from and fight townspeople, and this is basically expected.

Trails is a series where I like to use everyone, so I'll often rotate in the lowest levels when I can pick party members (there are exceptions like in the final dungeon of CS2 where you get *everybody*). Admittedly, the downside is either spreading good quartz too thin or doing extra managing of the best ones to move them around. I think characters catch up fairly quickly, so they aren't that much of a liability.

My hot take is Trails is better when you can't pick party members, or at least have several forced ones. That way, you get more people who interact with the plot and NPCs. Since I like to use everyone anyway, I don't mind if the game decides this for me.

Thanks, I was able to do the chapter 2 before activating chapter 1.

The first chapter 2 I did had no fights in it...was not expecting that but I guess that explains why the required level was only 7.

Recruited Partitio next. At the beginning, when he was about to buy the "dubious silver ore", I wanted to shout out him not to since he would get cheated. Though I guess, in this context "dubious" simply means low quality and not fake. Though there was plenty of other cheating going on later in his chapter 1.

Got distracted by other games, so haven't gotten very far.

In Trails games, I usually try to spend as little Sepith as possible on quartz, and focus on upgrading slots, and using the quartz they give me, since you find a lot of it. Though at least in Sky, I think there were usually a couple elements I had a bunch of extras of anyway, and action was really important. It's probably better to upgrade more stuff.

On a separate note, whenever a game has stones that are associated with giving you magic, I subconsciously just call those "materia". This despite that I had played 6 Trails games for the first time since my last playthrough of FFVII.

I picked Schera playing on hard. If I recall, she had trouble doing any damage with her regular attack but did alright with arts.

He is pretty tough, I can get why players despise hard mode prologue. But after having been wrecked by Lorence last game, this feels easier.

When you said this the first time, I thought to myself how you were having a much easier time handling the end of the prologue boss fight than I did. Guess I forgot about the other time you fight Kurt in the prologue.

I don't remember my strategy for that fight too well, but I remember one of my ideas was to spend turns running away from him, so he'd waste turns trying to approach me. Not a tactic I've needed often in this series. The problem with the cookie strategy is you lose the opportunity to buy ingredients by the time you reach the prologue boss, so you'd need to do it ahead of time, and maybe even before you get the cookie recipe.
