Because some people look at PEMDAS as 6 steps where multiplication is done before division and addition is done before subtraction. Really, there are only 4 steps.

1. Parentheses
2. Exponents
3. Multiplication/Division from left to right
4. addition/subtraction from left to right

Next to nobody is worried about the number of degrees of separation between what they're watching and the original work. If something like that does matter to you, then learn Japanese and read the manga. Otherwise watch what you want to watch and leave it at that.

again, like i said before, dubbing is one step further removed because now you have a replaced cast of VAs IN ADDITION to a translation, making subs that much closer to the original experience.

btw. I wonder if when a Madhouse exec gets the green light for a new project and the writers room gets busy over in Tokyo, what language is being spoken? What language is the anime being written in? And what language are the VAs hired to speak in? Probably Spanish or something.

This hasn't really been true for about a decade, there's been plenty Anime dubs that realease simultaneously with the JPN voices and like the other poster said big names typically get released very soon after, not years like it used to. Also if insist on using the asinine "Orignal VA" arguement, Space Dandy was broadcasted in the U.S first so does that mke the ENG cast the "OG?" Or is that still somehow the "Inferior" version by your warped logic?

i already brought up space dandy, buddy. Also the guy was arguing the Japanese arent the original voice actors. Well if it airs in Japanese and 3 weeks later a dub comes out then guess what the original dub is Japanese. This is like 99% of anime because by definition its a Japanese medium

edit Btw Funimations simuldubs web site says, Watch English-dubbed anime 2 weeks after the original anime broadcast with SimulDubs. Tell me which dub is the og again ?

Yeah, the original VA argument makes no sense because its just a VA.

An English sub of an anime will always release waaaaaaaaaay earlier than any American localization team can make a dub. It can take years for a company like Funimation to decide to localize, purchase rights, hire new actors, and sell it in the states. Japanese VAs usually get OG status because thats what is usually released first. However I think theres some exceptions like Space Dandy where they all release at the same time. Generally though, when it first premieres/airs live - its in Japanese.

I think watching dubbed is one step further removed from the original. You lose the original voices AND have to deal with the translation. Subs only have the translation challenge to worry about. I tried watching Squid Game in the English dub and it felt wrong. I dont know a single word of Korean but at least I heard the actors acting.

If TC is looking for an opinion on what's better, then typically the original will be better unless it was terrible and the dub was deconstructive in some way.

I just watched a movie about nuns giving each other oral called Benedetta. I watched it in the original French, because I'm not gonna watch nuns having sex while an American woman who gave up on her acting career talks over them and pretends to be part of the movie.

This is basic science. Watching a dub is like watching a special edition Star Wars film, you're just watching the original with extra shit strewn on afterwards

You should consume every piece of media in the original language no matter what.

I will admit there are a handful of exceptions, but its a generally good rule to follow.

I don't know what kind of jobs you have worked, but I don't think I have ever worked a job where I was "idle" for any length of time outside of special circumstances. And in 90% of those circumstances I was sent home because no way was any reasonable employer going to pay me to sit on my hands.

Desktop support and help desk, basically low level IT jobs is what I'm talking about in my own life. If I'm set to work 9-5 then the ticket queue is usually pretty empty by 2pm but everyone has to stay for the next 3 hours even when it's dead af. The bulk of the work is done before lunch and then you just coast until you get to go home

Im talking about the concept of working 9-5 no matter what even though some days there is no reason to be in the office that long. To stay in an office even when its slow just because you cant punch out until 5 is dumb. If I did absolutely nothing all week because there was no work to do in the office, and next week I diligently worked my 40 hours, I would still get paid the same. Working for a set hourly wage is absurd when we should be rewarded on actually doing the job NOT THE TIME SPENT. Not every hour is equal. Im not complaining about working Im complaining about BS jobs where you pretend to look busy (my personal lived experience)

people who work minimum wage at a McDonalds at 10x more value to peoples lives and provide more of a tangible benefit to other peoples lives then I ever will in a corporate 9-5 office setting
