6 times? For most people? That would be my first recommendation for individual songs to check out right after Comfortably Numb and Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2.

I remember listening to the first two songs off Dark Side when I was like 15 and giving up on the band for a good year or two. At the time, I had just discovered Nirvana and Guns N' Roses, which had become my favorite bands and set an expectation of energy levels I assumed was fairly standard with other rock bands.

So try listening to an album in full when you are not feeling high on adrenaline and when you have 40 minutes to listen from start to finish. Some of the best parts are often buried in the middle somewhere and, in Dark Side's case, really come together at the end. If the spacier stuff is really a big turn off, there are probably a good few songs off the Wall you could dig.

I read this as Marylin Manson and was like "damn straight!" in my head...

It's calling him by just the first name with the expectation people will automatically know who he is that I find problematic. I've seen people on these boards reference the name casually as such even outside topics like this. Like you acknowledge, there are a number of people with that name, so I'd rather it not be associated with one particular person, especially THAT guy. As for Leto, I haven't seen anything very big on him from any credible source, but maybe I missed something. Sucks already having two shitty famous people with the name.

Anyways, at this point I think I'd like to encourage people to get back to the topic itself. Not that it's really a discussion I care to take any part in.

I appreciate it as I'll admit that I was quick to attack a post of yours that didn't have much context other than just a joke that irks me.

You could say a was a bit sympathetic to actual Karen's, but not the obnoxious, entitled people you're referring to. They had probably like the second least desired name when that was a big thing.

Rather than accuse you of discriminating on me based on my name because i accept it might give off assumptions of trolling, (it's origins) I again must stress this tirade of yours is mis placed here, and not the righteous stance you think it is. I won't continue making it a personal attack and I apologize for going after your username. But the joke has really lost any humorous value it may have ever had, and for me, it certainly is rage-inducing because I'm aware of the stereotype every time I introduce myself to someone.

Also, not talking to you specifically, but I thought the Karen meme got old really fast and was largely driven by bitter virgins with beefs against white women.

I let it slide for years since the story broke, mostly since I don't like adding attention to it, but on a forum like this I'm not afraid to say I'm just straight sick of it. And the fact that it's being driven by such people with usernames like "Nintendo Porn," doesn't really coax things. Like do you need another creepy scapegoat for people to focus on or something?

There are people out there that have that name and did well before hearing who this dude even was, so let the joke fucking die already. Hell, I'd even say you can make all the Kushner jokes you want, but if you expect me to let low brow pedo jokes to run rampant at my expense without me bitching, you don't seem to understand at all how people have limits. This particular dumb as fuck, trashy attempt at a pop culture reference has long run its course and I'm damn well over keeping quiet about it to people on the internet.

One where you actually do your part to support the country from going in the worse of the two directions. I agree they cant keep this up forever, but I read that Stu said that making music is like healing for him. Sort of like how Brandon Sanderson can keep pumping out novels because writing is his main hobby. Maybe theyll have to take a cue from Brandon at some point and cut back on the touring.

The reason I mentioned the concern about his health was because it already is affecting their touring.

That said, I don't know a ton about Chron's so I don't really know how this could affect their recording career. Either way, I just want to support this band however I can because they're actually some fresh blood keeping the world of instrument-based music exciting.

Part of me says bring it on because Omnium Gatherum was one of my favorite albums from this year, but I hope they don't burn out on writing too quickly. I also hope their front-man is doing ok health-wise. Cancelling tour dates and pumping out so much material so quickly is a bit concerning, but maybe I'm looking too into it. Between these albums and the RHCP albums and the Jack White albums, it seems like 2022 has been the year to unleash to material to make up for lost promotional time from COVID (not that it really stopped these guys in particular that much).

So since I just have to give my thoughts...

Classic rock is the kind of music you could party or dance to. Once the rebellious Gen X came along, many of them were more about dismantling, both physically and metaphorically, the structures that be, inspired by past counterculture bands (yeah so maybe Ramones weren't exactly underground but I'm assuming you wouldn't put them under the classic rock umbrella). So basically once punk emerged as the predominant form or inspiration for rock in the 90's, the entire approach changed for the typical band trying to make it. Pleasing melodies were still very much appreciated (there are no shortage of infectious Nirvana, RHCP, and Green Day songs), but they were moving away from that swinging good time feeling. The tempo tightened a bit, moving from just a bit more upbeat than mid-tempo to a more intense, straightforward upper range of mid-tempo. Minor keys were much more commonly employed, not just in sad songs, but in songs meant to compel your attention, maybe partially due to the influence of the metal scene that had been developing for some time. Song themes focused more on problematic social phenomena and existential concerns, whereas classic rock, outside the occasional protest song, was more about making love and fighting for your right to party as the Beastie Boys succinctly put it (despite them not being anything classic rock, but maybe because they were a cultural byproduct of it like any other band of the time) while that era was coming to a close.

But really, I thought my libertarian friends would hate Trump's populist agenda, but then I learned just how full of shit most of them were. Like Hillary seemed like a better supporter of free market capitalism in many respects, but they still acted like it was black and white that the Democratic nominee was big government and therefore bad, while the Republican nominee was the best option because they're less likely to insist on the kind of surplus spending that Trump did even before COVID.

Makes about as much sense as a pre-engagement ring.

Doesn't need to get the vaccine because he tested negative. Not sure if this topic is satire at all, but no, him being in the military doesn't give him a pass for being a fucking idiot. By default, I hate any law that specifies different treatment toward one gender, especially when it shamelessly does so on its face. No, I've never had a period, but I really don't feel like even considering this tactic to mitigate the issue.
