Glad you enjoyed the game. I'm not a fan of the ending at all, but I do think it provides very strong closure for the series, and when I was actually playing through V3 I had a good time. I think the cases and characters in V3 are fun, but the ending soured me on the whole experience.

Normally I go through the post-game mode to finish up the "social links" for all the characters. I was initially excited to do this for characters who had minimal screen time like Rantaro, but this time I couldn't get very far at all in the post-game mode.

Once I knew the ending, I couldn't really enjoy the freetime events as much since I knew that every character and backstory is flat out bullshit. While there is the meta element that the characters in 1 and 2 are also "fictional", them being real in-universe still matters to me. Doing the free time events with the V3 cast, I couldn't get invested since everything they're talking about is quite literally made up. Ultimately, I really don't care about the V3 cast at all now because of this.

I don't regret playing it though, and V3 does have some cool moments. I did like Kaito's death scene, since it was a reference to the headmaster's death at the very start of DR1, and it fit with his ultimate talent.

Overall I prefer the writing style of the Zero Escape series and I'm looking forward to your topic on them!

Just finished the first trial. I'm gonna be honest; At first I wasn't really feeling this game as much. It's been a lot sillier and even more over the top already, and it was taking me a sec to jive with a lot of the characters.

Yeah, that's actually why I like the first game in the series the most. One is overall the most grounded (as much as DR can be grounded at least), and I liked the setting/atmosphere better. As a whole I ended up disliking the series more and more as it went on, but I still think it's worth playing if you're enjoying it. Each game still has its fun moments/cases.

While I think the cast in 2 are more entertaining than the group in one, their actual character feels shallower to me. They feel more like wacky anime archetypes than real people. Still, Nagito is my favorite character in the franchise so I'm glad you're enjoying his antics.

Replayed that game for the first time in 10 years, beat it a few days ago. Still a great game, easily my favorite final fantasy.

Personally I interpetted it as a part of her dying with Tidus.

In games where they have more than 2 range, like Shadows of Valentia and Three Houses, they can be pretty good.

Shinion in Radiant Dawn is also very good, and bows in that game also have more weapon options/flexibility.

Should I use up an accessory slot to increase the skill level exp gained or is the game long enough that I'll have maxed out adol's skills naturally.

If you're only planning to play as Adol, you shouldn't need the accessory. Ys 8 is pretty long.

That said, I do recommend giving the other characters a shot. I mainly stuck with Adol in the previous party games (Seven and MoC), but I found most of the characters in 8 to be pretty fun by the end, especially the latter half of the group. Was the first game where I felt like the party system is really good.

Yeah, I played the game at launch before Maddening mode existed, and while I really liked the world and characters, I found the gameplay to be too easy on Hard. The game gives you a LOT of options and mechanics, but I never felt the need to use them since enemies weren't that threatening.

Maddening forced me to utilize all the systems it has to offer, and made me really apperciate the gameplay. It's my favorite FE now.

Played through it about a year ago and loved it. Doing my 2nd run on the Switch version and I'm enjoying it. I remember enough of the major details to understand what's going on, but forgot a lot of the smaller character stuff, so it's fun going through their story with everything re-contextualized.

I'm also going through in a different order, this time prioritizing Destruction mode over Remembrance to see what kind of story telling experience that's like. I'm really appreciating the writing more this second time around, as I'm catching a LOT of subtle hints that completely slipped by in the first run.

Yes. My top three would be X, VII, and XIV of those I've played.

Didn't play it over the weekend (started Ys IX instead), but I read chapter 2 last night.

I didn't care for that story as much as I did the flaxen-haired family story, at least during the first half. The reveal of Yukimasa being the bestia was pretty good though, and if I understand correctly that dude is just STILL in the cellar lol.

I'll probably read chapter 3 sometime this week. Curious to see how this all ties together.

Also I'm getting some heavy Umineko vibes from the general setting, and it wouldn't surprise me if this game was inspired by it.

Bought it yesterday because of this topic, just reached the second door and I'm intrigued. Looking forward to the rest.

I'm going in completely blind and plan to keep it that way, but I am a bit curious how this game handles endings. Is there anything I should be aware of in order to get some "true" ending? I am making multiple saves so I can go back and pick some different options if needed.
