I looked up some possible reasons, and apparently anime was super cheap to syndicate back in the 80s/90s. Since Latin America usually didn't make cartoons domestically, they just aired anime with a cheap dub and that's what kids watched growing up. Usually the anime was uncensored too, unlike the US >_>

Cheap dub isn't the right word considering that the voices are actually good anyone who has seen DBZ in all 3(Japanase, Eng, Spa) languages can easily tell you the Spanish sub is the best

That's easy my grandparents grew up watching DB my dad/mom DBZ/GT when I went as a kid to Mexico they would show DB, DBZ and GT for 3 hours back to back this was mid/late 90s, etc...this also applies for several anime from the 80s

I saw the first episode on WB when it aired and liked it a lot. Made some fake Yugioh cards with a real deck of cards and pretended to play it with a friend that weekend we went to buy 3 decks and about 10 packs. From that we learned the proper rules. We ended up being a total of 13 or so who would duel. We eventually dropped it during the GX era though right before the GX decks came out.

We still played the GBA/DS games and that's how we learned about synchros and stuff

To me it's always been average me over hyped

I envy my kid he's 6 and he's watching better stuff than I was by his age and playing lots of games that I didn't get a chance too. He already saw Gargoyles, Batman TAS, Mighty Max, Spiderman, X-Men, Samurai Jack and more already....by his age I was stuck waiting until Saturday for cartoons and watching Simpsons episodes on Fox around 6pm. He doesn't need to wait for the show to get on on a specific time and he can continue at any time he pleases no commercials except for some small ads. That's just shows he's already seen majority of kids movies as well....

NASA, largest military base in the US and the 4th largest port in the US and that's just Texas not sure about everyone else
