I do think it's pretty strange how an institution that is supposed to be non-biased has very clear and open (and honestly to an extent, extreme) justices on one side of the political spectrum or the opposite.

on shogun's youtube you can find a poll regarding most hated characters, and steve is unsurprisingly number 1.this is a bit of an old video before the absolute explosion of acola (sep 2021), but it's funny to think that steve was this disliked before he was solidified as an unambiguous top tier. the rest of the list is min min, samus, pyra/mythra, and sonic. i wonder if steve would've been nerfed hard like min min if we still got patches

there is also a "top 10 most fun to fight" list and i didn't expect these results, though i do agree that wolf, joker, and lucina are very fun to fight

funny how japan doesn't really care about g&w. even with players like across who gets top 8 nobody really thinks that highly of him. i guess it makes sense because campy gameplay is the best way to fight him. i just think reading up on opinions across the world is really fun

Shogun's list is pretty much my top 5 least fun to fight too lol. Maybe add olimar instead of pyra/myrtha. While I think they are also broken, and destroy ZSS, I think they are fun to fight. But that is funny to see people hated Steve well before his rise to infamy. Surprised to not see G&W nor ZSS on the least fun to fight list.

The most fun to fight is interesting because I never really considered heavies fun to fight, unless they mean in a ditto. Like Ganon ditto? Fun af. Fighting Ganon? Not really because you either camp them the whole time or strictly out frame data them and win, neither of which is super fun imo. Palu, Joker, Lucina and even Roy, imo are pretty fun to fight so I agree with that.

Steve won't be banned but is an absolutely insane character and at minimum, top 10, but probably saying top 5 isn't an understatement. Disgusting character.

God, I used to be a regular in destiny's site chat. At some point he became a political commentator and bored me to death, though.

Funny you say that because most chatters now complain and moan when he just plays videogames.

Destiny (YouTube) and MrMouton are the only two I sub to. I didn't do it for years but now that I have a better income I don't mind since they do provide ton of entertainment and content. I'll probably never sub to anymore streamers though.

Not hating on MKLeo, he's a phenomenal player, but I wouldn't take what he says seriously. He mispeaks a lot when he's under pressure, and I've never thought he was a good public speaker. His line about possibly banning Steve is just him saying something he probably doesn't believe himself.

The funny thing about Ultimate is that the top 5 players outside of Japan play mostly Byleth/Corrin (MKLeo), mostly Cloud (Sparg0), only Wario (Gluto), only Fox (Light), and most Diddy (Tweek). Although Aegis, Pika, Joker, Wolf, Palu, ROB have been at the top of the tier lists since the game came out, lately the top players don't seem to care about the tiers that much and have been finding more success playing their favorites.

We'll know down the line when the meta develops more. Right now this is partly a reaction to the number 1 player in Japan coming over and washing most of the NA players at Gimvitational. So this is sort of NA's first exposure to Steve at Acola's level. It'll take some time to know if there's really viable counterplay, or if we have another Bayo on our hands. At the very least this is a 3 stock rule set instead of a 2 stock rule set, so cheese doesn't hit quite as hard.

I agree but it's also worth noting that Onin, the Midwest Steve, basically swept COST 2022 beating multiple top players, yonni beat Tweek in "Steve's worst match up" (sephiroth), acola won 3 majors in a row (and beat Marss zss) and DDee too 8'd his first major with Steve. Again it warrants discussion, but I don't see a ban coming.

It definitely warrants discussion because Steve fundamentally plays a different game than every other character due to blocks and mining. That being said, he probably doesn't warrant a ban, but he is a pretty definitive top tier character.

i camped a zss player for 8 minutes earlier and she ragequit as the timer hit 0 so i imagine i can do well online. been trying to incorporate more grabs lately (was always tricky due to where the grab button is placed) but i've gotten a lot better at using it

Online is just so terrible and we've had a consistent offline group playing recently. That being said, I do want to play with the CE crew soon.
