It's derived from "girls," but it's generally not used to imply children (not without specifying, at least), so it's a much better fit for a casual way to refer to adult women.

That's a good point. Now that I think on it, referring to a kid as a gal would seem odd.

It's quite regional, though, so trying to use it outside of those regions is going to turn some heads.

Also fair. We need to figure out how to facilitate a culture shift.

I've also heard 'guys and gals'. But it's definitely not something I've heard often.

After some googling it says it's derived from 'girls' (which I mean... I guess it's obvious in hindsight) so I dunno if it's much better.

Those corners are a nightmare with how it bends at the sides. I saw a bunch of articles say that the glass is super flimsy so I was doing my best to be careful but there were a few times I was worried I was gonna snap it. But the phone's in a case so I wasn't too concerned if it was something minor and I think replacement covers are not too expensive if I had to go that route.

That's fair but for however many years I've had a phone it hasn't been an issue so far (never even dropped a phone let alone in water). So fingers crossed it continues that way.

Plus the battery had expanded and pushed open the back cover (the glass? cover of the S8+) so I think that was probably out the window anyway. And on top of that it was already a refurbished replacement so who knows what happened before I got it.

Totally. All those tiny little screws...

And it took me forever to get the fingerprint thingy connected again and it was so annoying 'cause I don't even use the fingerprint scanner so I don't care if it's connected. But I didn't want to turn on the phone and have it not work because everything wasn't put together right. So I had to keep fiddling with that all the while worried I had screwed up somewhere else or forgotten to connect this or that right.

Man, I hate built in batteries. I was so nervous at every moment that I was gonna break something. Super don't have money to replace it so it was kinda high stakes. Honestly, taking the back off might've been the worst part but mostly 'cause I'm super impatient and had to fight myself to slow down the entire time. Luckily the battery inflating had popped it off a good bit or it'd have never gotten done... though I guess had it not it would've have needed to be done so yeah...

And now I've made this topic because I'm proud of myself for not screwing it up and wanted to talk/brag about it.

An English sub of an anime will always release waaaaaaaaaay earlier than any American localization team can make a dub. It can take years for a company like Funimation to decide to localize, purchase rights, hire new actors, and sell it in the states.
For most big shows it's only a couple weeks (or less) between the original release and the dub. Spy x Family's dub came out only a week after the japanese release.

I would like to say as a dub watcher that I'm 100% for subs for live action stuff (it's too weird when the voice doesn't match the mouth). But for animation, the drawing doesn't speak, so it doesn't bother me because it's all dubbed in anyway.

I think most anti-dub people haven't watched it since like the 90s when there were some generally awful stuff or just get wrapped up in random controversies with silly changes in localization (grr they made the teenager say sus how dare they). Most dubs are completely fine in acting and writing (there are plenty that I think are genuinely really great). Again, unless you're watching 'em side by side for comparison, it's probably not gonna make a difference in enjoyment on most shows (unless you go in with a certain mindset one way or the other obviously).

Unless there's a really specific reason you can't read subtitles (like you watch shows while doing something else), there are near zero instances where the dub is better. Good english voice actors don't generally do anime dubs, and rewriting sentences from English to Japanese while keeping the same meaning/tone can never be done naturally 100% of the time. You'll always have translations that just don't land.

Yes I know there's an urban legend that the Cowboy Bebop director prefers the dub, guess what, the sub for Cowboy Bebop is better too.

Counter point to the above post. Most dubs nowadays are pretty great. Realistically the acting and writing are going to be well done. And if you're not watching the subs as well as the dubs then the difference is irrelevant anyway. So if you prefer one way or the other go with that.

I don't think it'll ever affect my life but I know it's immensely important to people whose lives it can affect. The main argument against it seems to be "But my church said..." and they wanna stick themselves into private matters that don't concern them. So I'd say I'm firmly for letting people decide if it's right for their situation.

It's an important topic and someone's stance on it can be an important factor in whether I think they kinda suck.

It's definitely silly at times and the angstiness can get a little much and piecing the story together is... a lot but I love the series. A few of the stories are really tragic (the Birth By Sleep gang is my personal favorite part of the series. Roxas has so much going on and Axel too just by being friends with him and Saix who are opposites sides to the Organization) and some of the characters are a lot of fun (Xemnas is so cheesy evil he's a blast, Braig is fun if a bit much at times, and I really really really hope they can pay off the Master of Masters well... he's so delightfully mysterious and fun (thanks largely to Ray Chase's charismatic acting)). Even some of the Disney characters actually get engaging stories (Maleficent's whole arc in particular is great and Pete and Hades are fun for what they are).

I could talk about it for hours.

I think Kingdom Hearts is a giant glowing heart or maybe it's just taken that shape just because and it's really a thing that I think we haven't actually seen the true form of or something like that... And the door in KH is just a Door to Darkness that leads to the darkness between worlds and is home to the heartless. Though Kingdom Hearts might be in that darkness world... Ansem is a scientist guy studying the link between worlds and heartless and whatnot. His apprentice Xehanort gets to into the whole darkness thing and splits himself into a heartless (I think?) called Ansem (for confusion purposes I suppose or maybe legitimacy I can't remember) and a Nobody called Xemnas (who has a dope voice and leads Organization XIII).

The apprentice Xehanort was actually the body of Terra (friend of Aqua and Ventus) taken over by the old master Xehanort (buddy? of Yen Sid and Eraqus).

And then there was time travel in DDD where it got kinda silly and Xehanort brought everyone together. But I don't remember which xehanort because he was young but I think younger than apprentice Xehanort. Love the series and how convoluted it was but honestly have watched that game twice and I don't really retain like any of the time travel crap...

I thought 3 was fine. Too many of the Disney Worlds had original stories and basically just used the world as a backdrop. I don't mind the original stuff (I genuinely really love the Organization 13 stuff and the BBS storyline) but stuffing it into Disney didn't work for me. It also didn't really feel like a finale when a lot of people were expecting one. It was for the Xehanort arc but I personally was already pretty done with him anyway. I also wasn't a fan of the time travel stuff so there was that annoying wedge in the story too.

I'm excited for more of the Master of Masters (partially because I find Ray Chase's performance so much fun) so I'm totally down for where the series is going.

That said... it's hard to get excited for this when it's probably many years out.

If you have to do it right there and then, just call him out. He could have shouted that the joke crossed a line or even walked up on stage and told him off. People might have still saw it as rude (though it'd be easy to paint Chris rock as the bad guy if he did it right) but he shouldn't have used violence to make his point. It just comes across as childish and basically made a lasting impact for the audience that'll be remembered poorly judging by the current reaction.

I know that there's no winning with conspiracy theorists but the idea it's staged is so absurd.

Why would Will Smith agree to let Chris Rock make a joke about his wife, which was insensitive given her condition, and then give up any good will he'd get for winning an Oscar to forever be remembered for striking someone on live tv over said joke. And then awkwardly shouting and swearing while, again, on live tv.

Seems like a pretty big hit to his image for a fun little skit. He's a mostly family friendly dude now (with that stupid Rewind and Aladdin) so having footage of him getting violent is real stupid.

And honestly if it's staged it's so much worse for his image. Not only did he think he'd come across ok by lashing out like a child, but he agreed to a joke at his wife's expense. And even if she was cool with it, it means they all agreed that it'd be good fun making alopecia (something she's shared as being a pretty big deal for her) the butt of a joke.
