I dont know if this is the thread for this but the game seems to be a historic bomb for the franchise in terms of sales. In the UK it placed #8 despite no real competition, it did worse than Triangle Strategy despite that being an exclusive launching a week after Elden Ring. In Japan it just launched at one of the lowest numbers for any FF spinoff and if you look at the individual versions they seem to be the two lowest selling FF releases ever. That seems abysmal for a game this large.

To be clear Elden Ring will no doubt beat Arceus lifetime because Pokmon games tend to be quite frontloaded due to how frequently they cone out, same as CoD and FIFA. My point was more that there have already been two monster launches this year.

Yeah the ruble has crashed so they can actually get a decent rate. Its extremely bad in Turkey at the moment, inflation is out of control because Erdogan doesnt know what hes doing.

I have a lot of connections to Turkey and the reason they are considering switching to the ruble is because the lira has crashed. Its economic, it is not an indicator of alignment, things are shakier than ever with Russia. They are also a NATO member as well.

With respect Im going to defer to British military intelligence on this one!

Ukraine is already drafting an agreement. It is still ongoing but Russias stances have softened significantly - if Ukraine is in the EU in a few years and subject to article 42.7 thats an effective deterrent as France is a nuclear power. We will see how it goes, but if Ukraine is in the EU in five years Russia is unlikely to try again.

Also Russia withdrawing its troops from abroad is a bad sign for them. Apparently they even pulled troops from South Ossetia, and not just the Russian ones. Imagine if Georgia reclaimed that and Abkhazia. Its hard to see a positive outcome for Russia though things can always change of course.

Foreign intelligence is saying that Russia has effectively fully stalled, including in Mariupol. They are still a long way away from taking the city and it will be very bloody and difficult for the Russians if they succeed at all. Add to that the enormous climbdown in the the Russian negotiating position where now theyre saying that Ukraine can join the EU, form individual defence pacts but no NATO, and have agreed to deal with the breakaway regions separately after a ceasefire. It seems that Russia know they have nearly no hope of outright victory now.

Also, a lot of publishers do not provide full information to NPD. Most notably, Nintendo does not provide digital numbers to third parties. So while NPD had Black Ops Cold War as the highest selling game of 2020 for North America, that has a massive asterisk next to it because Animal Crossing had no digital data counted and if it did it would have been the number one game fairly comfortably.

Also the 5.7 million is digital only, from the dollar gross the total sales are likely in the 10-11 million range, which for six weeks about lines up as roughly equal to Valhalla for two months. I know in some markets like the UK Valhalla definitely outsold Black Ops Cold War (and Elden Ring is outselling Valhalla). So I can see those as comparable.

The wild thing on the subject of Nintendo is, Elden Ring likely isnt even the biggest launch of the year because of Legends Arceus. It is mid-March and there have already been two all-time level launches. And there has also been a Horizon game and a Gran Turismo game released! Its going to be a huge year.
