I dont think this will be as long a wait as KHIII because they literally restarted that game nearly from scratch in a new engine while here theyre just using UE5 without the FFXV engine holding it back. I would guess 2024-2025 so about half of the wait for KHIII.

When I started, I was 99% positive MYSTERY MOVIE X that I had already seen was going to take the bottom spot, but I have now sadly found a movie on this list that I previously hadn't heard of that is likely going to be nice and snug in that final spot even though I still have like 15 movies to watch/re-watch.

There is one movie now I really didn't like and a handful of others that were varying levels of "this is not very good but I don't completely hate it". Most of the list so far though has been a lot of fun.

It is very possible that I came in with the exact same idea at the top and wound up seeing the same film Id never heard of as well that is now ranked firmly at the very bottom of my list. I gave it a rental and would definitely call it one of the worst movies Ive ever paid money to
see.

Something came up so Im delaying the next topic until tomorrow.

Ceremonially maybe but certainly not like that and the game knows it which is why theres a note justifying it. The issues with portrayals like that is that it perpetuates images of people from Africa as savages without civilisation or technology designed to make them seem lesser during colonialism, which was of course absurd even at the time, Africans bought and used rifles like everybody else, had cities, etc. In the case of Black Panther its combining some traditional elements with sci-fi technology to create something cool, in RE5 its largely used to create less human enemies, its bad. The thing is, as Snake notes there are lore elements which clearly show that one of the writers was trying to address this stuff, but it didnt work well at all.

Forgot to mention this is the first game I remember SJWs actively ruining. The game takes place in Africa and these people freaked out that black people were the zombies. In a game that takes place in West Africa. The developers added a ton of white (and I think also Latino?) zombies and lightened the skin of the black ones.

Black people being zombies in Africa in a Resident Evil game doesn't make racism worse, guys. Literally no one cares.

Black zombies in Africa: fine.

Zombies in stereotypical tribal dress that attack you with spears in Africa: not fine.

Among other issues with the game but thats the one that REALLY jumps out. Its not the setting its how its used. There are some decent depictions and some really awful ones.

Thanks for that Snake. I didnt realise that the franchise had been gone for so long, or that it was such a shift back to horror from apparently effectively being a comedy for a while.

It was my first Chucky movie back when I watched it in 2017. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I generally dislike slasher films.

Oh it was nothing against the film, I was just surprised to see it over more notable films. It would have been nice to see some Mike Flanagan here, each of his films are worthy of inclusion. He even directed the most improved sequel of all time lol.

2/10. Its ridiculous in a bad way (aside from some amusing Wesker stuff and the boulder) and loaded with flagrant racism. Its not just the setting which is arguably aesthetic rather than story, but its in the games narrative as well. The stuff in the jungle is really inexcusable and was that at the time.

The issue is Fire Emblems popularity then was entirely down to Smash Bros., not so for Golden Sun. I suspect Golden Sun had a lot of non-Nintendo fans. And we had seen it hold up surprisingly well. Disgaea was able to get almost 40% on Wind Waker, Golden Sun beats Disgaea there for sure. Does it win? Probably not, but it likely gives it a scare.

And yeah, to be clear, nobody was having these discussions about Fire Emblem. Thats why it was a terrible decision.

The Nintendo totem pole isnt as much a totem pole as a jumble though, and Golden Sun as an RPG was always outside of it. So I expect that it would not have been. It definitely made a lot more sense than Fire Emblem which owed all its popularity to Melee then.

Golden Sun would likely resist it. Disgaea got nearly 40% on Wind Waker. Golden Sun could maybe have pulled the upset, or more likely kept it close.

After watching Curse of Chucky, Id be fascinated to know why it was selected for the list.

Fire Emblem remains one of the most baffling decisions in contest history. Golden Sun had a shot at pulling an LFF shocker, Fire Emblem just got obliterated. It lost badly to Disgaea. This was also 2009 when Golden Sun was much more popular than Fire Emblem which was near its lowest point. Golden Sun had never seen a contest, Fire Emblem had and got doubled by Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It was also a huge bummer personally because I put a lot of effort into getting Golden Sun in. I even remember the topic, it was one hardcore FE fan digging their heels in and being repeatedly told why it was a bad idea, yet it happened anyway.

However, TWEWY may have been the worst as that contest was its only chance to actually do anything and it got robbed by a game that had been out for three months. So yeah add/remove was a huge mistake.

I suspect it would be like The Witcher III and do much better in the overall vote due to a relative lack of platform alignment but leaning PS4, just like how The Witcher III had a lack of alignment but leaned PC. Its weird, but I dont think Metal Gear Solid V would lose to Rare Replay!

Oh to be clear, I was more talking about genres and how I think those open world types of games are more in favour here than the more story-driven games.

Although, that was a weird year for system polls. The Witcher III lost every single system poll then won Game of the Year. Also Fallout 4 was strong for like two months. Speaking of games that had a lot of hype!

MGS4 really disappointed in 2010, and has gotten a lot weaker since. The hype was already fading back then.

But also 2008 isnt really in the old games area. Its not that GameFAQs likes old games, it likes 90s games. There isnt much difference between 2000s games and 2010s games really, which is why the strongest game since the 90s is from 2017 and what may be the second strongest is from the same year MGSV launched! And they are both open world action adventures, like MGSV. Thats what GameFAQs likes these days.

yeah this is defintely true. MGS4 was THE game back in 2008, along with GTAIV. People bought PS3 just for MGS4. I barely remember the days leading up to MGSV or what year it actually released LOL

Oh I disagree there, the pre-release hype for MGSV was huge. MGS4 was a 2008 PS3 game. There were a lot of people holding off on it for that reason, it was before the console-redeeming price drop as well. There are polls on this:

MGSV looks better there if you ask me. Incidentally heres post-release MGS4 struggling with GTA4 and losing badly to Brawl:

This suggests that MGS4 peaked post-release, as more people got their hands on PS3s. So I think its reasonable to say that exclusivity dampened its early hype.

Access to 4 here would peak at about 75%. Access to V is likely very close to 100%. Id say a lot of those 25% who never had a PS3 are going to be PC diehards and V did extremely well on PC. V did better on its which release are you most excited for this month poll than 4 did despite stronger competition, and was the higher selling game outside of GameFAQs land. A lot of people played V that had never played a Metal Gear Solid game, had skipped 4 or hadnt touched one since 2. It was a bigger deal than 4 was for sure.

I really cant see 4 doing near Dark Souls numbers on V, I just dont think 4 is popular enough, and I really dont think theres that kind of fan consensus that would allow SFF. I do think 4 wins for now, but like, 53-47. V being significantly more played helps. Also V looked alright in GOTD2, it acquitted itself more gracefully than 2 and 4 did in GOTD1 lol. I think people are imagining a level of V hate that doesnt really exist. The people mad that its unfinished like the game, and the people mad that its not an anime are so few I doubt they matter.

Also Brawl more than 60-40s. Fallout 3 beats both handily.

Oh 4 would probably win that but theyre close, and 4 has fallen much further (check the 5 poll before that). Dark Souls couldnt double MGSV. Give it a few years and V probably wins, 4 is a non-factor as long as its stuck on the PS3. The game is essentially unplayable for most now.

MGS4 is a bit of a counter to that as the lack of any rerelease has hurt it quite a lot. Also, V has absolutely not hurt the series reputation what? 4 fell on its own, and it really started as early as GOTD1 and has just continued. A general turn against the game as the novelty of it seemingly being an ending wearing off + the game being locked on the PS3. 4 and V are on a comparable level if not V outright being stronger at this point.

This poll is definitely much stronger than the last one. The bottom three of the last poll, Battlefield 4, Disgaea 4, and Saints Row IV have been replaced with Street Fighter IV, Fallout 4, and Uncharted 4. The weakest of this set (Street Fighter IV) would easily beat the strongest of that set (Saints Row IV). So all in all RE4 is to par here. FFIV does look a bit stronger, I would say that is more down to content from it featuring heavily in Endwalker and FFVII Remake/FFXIV resulting in an overall FF boost than any kind of SNES boost.

Oblivion and especially MGS4 look bad here, Oblivion can blame it on Fallout 4 but MGS4 has no excuse. Its just a lot weaker than it used to be. This begs the question, which game had the biggest drop in strength? MGS4? Vice City? Half-Life 2s was pretty steep. Rallies dont count.
