First of all, that's awesome, and as another user mentioned, it was part of the reason I decided to do this - in hopes others would also donate. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I want to do what I can to help those in need. I am going through the https://handinhand2017.com site. Basically, I guess I was inspired by the telethon last night and just wanted to do my part.

I gave up on that philosophy after I saw some of the comments about how people were upset that I was going to donate anyway and was just using this as kind of a cheap trick to get a 500 topic. Basically, I'm just going to keep the topic going as long as it stays on CE before the purge. I've already made my donation.

yeah... I understand what you're saying, but here's my thinking - or at least a part of it: there are a lot of people who say stuff like "I will match anyone's donation up to [insert set amount here]." I guess to me, if they're already planning on given [set amount], you could say the same thing - "just donate without forcing others to do so". The difference is I'm not asking anyone else to donate - although since this topic has been up, I have seen at least two other donation topics and a matching offer in this topic.

In short, it really feels like you're getting pissed at me for a) trying to do what I feel is the right thing (and can anyone say it's not?) and b) trying to have a little fun with it at the same time. I just don't get it.

At the end of the day, the money has been donated, and regardless if this topic reaches 500 or not, it will purge into obscurity. A handful of CEmen will remember it - maybe, but I would guess that the majority will forget about it shortly after it's purged. So, what's the harm in what I'm doing?

I realize that, but I did this once before for tornadoes in Oklahoma, and basically everyone just said that I should just give without needing to get a 500 topic, so I figured if I declared that right off the bat, I'm basically just drawing the conclusions that people would draw anyway. *shrug*

what? How does what you said in any way have anything to do with what you quoted?

I basically said we don't have to delete trolling or flaming immediately upon seeing it on the boards if we don't want to. We can wait for another mod to read the mark and handle it, or when we go to the queue to handle marks, we can get to it when we get to it.

How does that have anything to do with the number of times a post is marked and whether or not it's a violation?

First, let me state for the record that this poll will in no way alter the way we (the mods) do business on this site. It's not a poll that's been suggested by any other moderator or administrator. This is just something that I've been wondering for a while.

So, in short, as I'm sure most - if not all - of you know, moderators handle marked messages from a queue. That's something that we've said time and time again on many boards. Along with that is the general guideline of "if it's not marked, then we probably don't need to act on it." That was sort of spelled out in SBAllen's Terms of Use Update topic seen here: https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/6-gamefaqs-announcements/61332382.

Under the current system, mods are encouraged to overlook most "minor" infractions when browsing the boards. With trolling and flaming, for example, we can just look the other way for the time being until we're normally going to be in the queue or until another mod is working the queue and handles it. This falls under the "does this post somehow interrupt the conversation at hand" concept in the topic above. If it doesn't interrupt, why should we step in? We can and are encouraged to handle things that we find of an offensive of "illegal" nature on the spot - or at least make sure that we mark those posts ourselves, so another mod will get to them.

However, it seems that users get upset when a post/topic is deleted, and similar posts/topics stay and understandably so. I often see users state that we - the mods - should be more aggressive with finding violations and deleting them. That because we have volunteered and been chosen as mods, it is our responsibility to seek these things out, and the user is under no obligation to report.

I've put together a list of what I think are some of the pros and cons of tracking down violations.

Pros:
Potentially "cleaner" boards with fewer posts slipping through the cracks..
Less obligation on the users' side to find marks.

Cons:
Larger moderation staff would be required, and this would potentially lead to more inconsistency with handling marks and interpreting the rules.
Innocuous posts on smaller boards that had been allowed in the past would now be deleted, leading to an increase in moderation/upset users.

There may be some others, but I think those are the general arguments for and against the idea of moderators basically acting on their own.

So... thoughts?

anti-vaxxers are on both sides of the political spectrum. On the right, you're likely to have the "God can/will cure/protect my child" group, and on the left, you would likely have the "Jenny McCarthy had clothes on and said they cause autism" group. Scattered throughout are people on both sides singing "my child my choice" and/or "it's not right for the government to demand this". This is of course neglecting those who think no child should get a vaccine because the 1% (or whatever) of the cases where some child may be either allergic to the vaccine and/or have some immuno-deficiency disease and can't get them, so no one should.

Even though it's a fairly political issue, it's really not a biased political issue.

It's not really that people don't have the "guts" to stop them. It's that everyone is trying to do it diplomatically instead of just wiping the country off the map (figuratively speaking, of course). This is one of those times where Team America: World Police got things exactly right.

It's not that anyone is scared; it's that everyone is like "if you don't do this, we'll be mad at you".

As for the question at hand, if Rodman is more accomplished as a politician by getting into NK to speak with KJU, then that would put him as more accomplished as a politician than any American president since 1953 or so.

Generally speaking, every fan outside of the local market cares about competitiveness. Why bother watching if it's going to be the same two teams going to the finals? Why watch if it's most likely going to be the same team winning every year?

It's the same gripe people had about the NFL during most of the 70's, 80's, and 90's - who cares - outside of the fans of those particular teams - about watching super teams beat up on everyone year after year? Would people watch people play games - especially sports games - on YouTube if they only played on easy mode? Probably not because people enjoy watching a challenge.

VHS to DVD was by far the biggest jump in quality - this coming from someone who still has two VCRs hooked up to TVs in his home and a third in the garage. The thing with DVD->BluRay and BR->4K is it's quite dependent on the TV, whereas VHS->DVD is obvious regardless of the TV. I have a 480i CRT TV in my spare room that has a built-in VCR and also has my PS2 hooked up to it. It I watch the same movie, I can tell a significant difference there, and the difference only widens with improved TVs. However, when I look at those side-by-side comparisons in Best Buy showcasing the difference between BR and 4K, I can't really notice a significant difference unless the TV is much bigger than I really need for my home.

I'm not saying there's no difference, but it honestly is not enough for me to rush out and buy a new TV just for 4K. 1080 and BR work just fine for me.

I'm sure if a woman were to tryout and play well enough to make the team, they would be on the team. The problem generally comes in that women usually play softball in high school and college, so they're not scouted, which would mean they have to work their way through the farm leagues.

That being said, no team is going to play a female just to show they can play. Professional sports are about winning, and coaches and managers do what it takes to get the most wins.

That being said, based on the OP here, Adam and Eve (as well as the Garden of Eden) are said to be between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers - and the heart of the Fertile Crescent, which pretty much puts it in Baghdad or close to it. Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Both of these are Asian areas, so yes, Jesus was Asian.

And, trust me, when you're actually in trouble in the military, it's much more calm and collected. Drill sergeants yelling is just a way to handle things for a certain period of time in training. After a couple of weeks, there's very little yelling.
