Does this have to be constant? Or is it an off and on sort of thing?

It is constant however my mind filters it a majority of the time. Others have it worse than me. Mine sounds kind of like the whine some CRT displays make, but much louder at times. It isn't always at the same intensity.

Oddly my hearing test was not bad, though tinnitus often is paired with hearing loss.

Incidentally an ear doctor I visited said normal headphones are extremely unlikely to cause hearing damage.

Yep years ago I had no insurance and ignored getting an ear infection treated. My ears ring ever since.

It is not so loud that it is distracting a majority of the time though. If I think about it I can always hear it though. For me it is constant high-pitched ringing.

It's unfortunate it's taken to that extreme by some. The fact is 'we' are rare. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that. Adding cis-this or that is kind of silly. I can understand in discussions specifically on the topic of gender identity, but trying to change language in general is just plain silly. Most people are straight (or mostly straight) and identify as the gender they were born as. Accepting that as the default should not be an affront to those who are different. And that typically gets the "you can't choose who is offended" line. But that said, and it pains me to repeat it since bigots love it but it's true: one does not have a right to not be offended either.

Most people that believe in equality are not so outrageous. I don't presume to speak for anyone else than myself, but I do agree things are taken way too far by some. Jokes are not inherently bigoted. A character that is stereotypical is not inherently the result of bigotry. A flaws woman or LGBT character is not by default the result of misogyny or bigotry.

Those extremes are ridiculous and dilute the message of equality, but that said they aren't an excuse to fight against equality either.

It comes down to this:
"Too bad, we exist."

Rampant bigotry seeks to make LGBT people outright invisible, and succeeded for centuries if not millennia. I'm aware not all civilizations were as backward on the subject as many are today, but making the oppressed invisible is the number one priority of aggressors.

Also contrary to the bigoted notions of "maybe if they didn't dress like that I would respect them more," history has shown that the silent are even more violently oppressed than those who speak up.

I don't sympathize with people dressing up in skimpy costumes and parading fetishes and whatnot, however I understand why. "F you, we exist, too bad."

TopicAlcohol VS Smoking

Alcohol in moderation doesn't have the disastrous effects of smoking and while additive is not nearly so intrinsically all encompassing as smoking is.

I've seen people spend money they don't have on alcohol. I've thought someone in voice chat had a Southern drawl but was actually drunk all the time (which is very sad). I've seen the late stage effects of smoking killing THREE people though as it turned them into barely able to breath husks that eventually died of either cancer or not being able to breath, one of them in so much pain with her last weeks of hardly being able to gasp that her doctor essentially killed her with huge overdoses of morpheme to put her out of her misery (which seems to be an open secret method of euthanasia). Now a kid that was in the car with one of them (his grandfather) as he died from inability to breath anymore is a smoker. So is his dad who is a friend. And said friend's wife has to hide money to pay bills, and he needs surgery and his doctor said he WILL die if he doesn't stop his smoking and drinking. She lost a tooth and could never get dental work done over it because her husband spends all their money on alcohol and cigarettes. Their house needs work done that WOULD be done if he didn't smoke or drink so much. Even when he has guests he'll still make excuses to go out and hang out with his drinking buddy, or be sent on an errand but have an excuse to not go then return without the money he was supposed to spend on necessities.

Now my nephew smokes. One who was so detached from reality when he was a teenager he suggested they just kill smokers to solve the problem. (I don't know where he got that from, but he may have just said it to bug me.) Somehow, he smokes. I am extremely upset at whoever the moron is who tempted him.

If you smoke, give it up ASAP. Especially if you have family. Even if the smoking doesn't sap your money away that should be spent on house work or vehicles or your kid's education and such, you're still taking a risk of killing yourself and depriving your family of yourself far sooner than they should lose you. It's absolutely depressing and disgusting. I am extremely grateful I've never been tempted. Growing up with yellow house walls and a mother that smoked probably helped though. She still died, but at least her last few years were smoke free and she remarked how much better she felt after withdrawal ended.

I just can't believe even kids who saw their relatives turn into pale husks who eventually died have still started smoking. It's absolutely unthinkable to me.

As to the topic alcohol at best usually tastes like tainted fruit juice to me. I think beer is disgusting and wine is typically a fruit juice with a bit of Listerine mixed in. I don't swear off alcohol though. I've had wine coolers or wine at special events or 'hard' lemonade on occasion but I don't go out of my way for it. I hope I'm never ever tempted with tobacco though. That reminds me of the time I took a sip of 'my' soda and grabbed the wrong can. It was my cousin's chewing tobacco spit can. ...yeah

As for smoking... even the smell bothers me. And it bothers me even more is that people who smoke constantly don't even notice they end up smelling like ass all the time.

Here in Wisconsin a decade or so ago a smoking ban in public buildings went into effect. There was all kinds of doom and gloom that all the bars would go out of business and such. Our current Republican governor boasted as he campaigned he would get rid of the ban.

By the time he and his government were in office, people had some time to experience restaurants without smoking allowed. Suddenly after experiencing how nice it is not to have stench floating around while eating, even into non smoking sections, the ban became far more popular than not!

The game's been strung along so long I forgot it took three years after the re-announcement. I'm not entirely convinced they even did much work on the game itself prior to 2013. If they did, that's some Duke Nukem Forever level mismanagement.

As much as I am tempted to cite Trump's "I could shoot someone in the street and my supporters would stand by me" comment (imagine if a Democrat said that), yeah there's no telling if he'd have won if so many votes weren't absentee.

I remember vividly. I was in a computer room at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I heard some guys talking about CNN not loading. One of them said a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. Soon they said another one crashed... there's no way that's an accident. I didn't know the full details until I went home after classes, then my sister and I watched news coverage all day.

I'll always remember Peter Jennings reporting non stop, then after a break many hours in he was dozing off and muttered "...bastards..." after which they cut away and he presumably was whisked off to get some rest.

When it happened it was more an incredulous reaction from the people in the computer lab because it was so unexpected and the enormity of the damage wasn't yet realized, where I was at least. That was the moment it happened though, before it was clear what was going on entirely.

The bathroom thing is definitely true, in London at least. I haven't traveled personally so I can't say. I stress that my sister still loved London; it's just one of the quirks not expected. Also bathtubs that are tubs on support feet instead of shaped against walls and elevators that announce the opening/closing of the doors.

On the topic though, bathroom attendants being a thing is something I had no idea about. What do they even do? It's kind of creepy.

They'll run out of food before they get enough nuclear material to be a real threat. I'm not saying that a nuke or two hitting any country is a good thing but they don't really have enough to make a "world ending" supply of nukes

Wish I kept a link but last I read is 50+ by 2020. And in response to the other post, the issue is not winning it's how much damage and instability they can cause if they go berserk.

China has long moved away from their support for NK. To them, NK is just a money sink anyways. NK literally survives almost entirely from giveaways by China, UN, US, etc. I'm sure that was a bigger contribution to Trump making idiot decisions more than anything, considering NK hasn't done anything in a long while outside that funny assassination, and the probability of them actually starting the war themselves is extremely low. They've been doing the threatening thing and backing away with literally nothing happening for multiple decades.

It's amazing how comfy America is. Like we're so fucking far from any of these guys that unless you lived there like I did, you make these kinds of topics or decisions like Trump's

Please remember half of us didnt vote for Trump

More than half, but I suppose the margin of difference is so small (proportionate to the number of votes) it may as well be exactly half.

They'd surrender after a few months

That is a very dangerous assumption and probably wrong.

You have to remember these people have been completely brainwashed for several generations. It makes the propaganda from the fringes here in the USA look accurate. These people have been completely brainwashed into thinking the USA/others want to annihilate them and that their 'amazing' leaders are to be eternally thanked for protecting them.

Also, the damage they could do to South Korea is terrible, even without nuclear weapons. North Korea would lose, but the destruction would be horrendous.
