No, that means the engineer's job is to make it work. The "empathy" bits should have been settled long before the engineers were ever brought in.

An engineer who asks "should this even be done?" won't be an engineer for very long, outside of Star Wars spinoffs.

Engineers collaborate, at least higher level ones do. Collaboration, especially with people who are not engineers requires a level of empathy and the ability to deal with people. You need to get everyone on the same page and get them doing the same thing, not getting 10 different solutions from 10 different engineers. Making it work? Tons of engineers can do that.

Reasons why a lot of engineers supplement their expertise with other disciplines, so they don't end up just being the low-mid level technical guy who can't climb.
