love is actually a weaker emotion.

Just a guess, but perhaps you haven't experienced love.

Post #5 brings up a decent study how love and hate are very very similar.

How does it feel knowing that in two years, your annual income increased by more than some people make?

Good? I've waited for a career for fifteen years now. I've busted my ass and worked hard at work and school. Five years later it finally will pay off.

Being a single man in NY at 100g/y is a good feeling

My advice to you, that others have given to me, is to not let things become personal for you, remember that it's always business, and people will have to understand or flail in this market.

I know but that isn't a lie. Getting to a point in life will always create a rift with someone. Unless you are completely friendless that is.

Also they guy in replacing was making 170ish a year... I hope I can top that. Really do. Fuck I'm happy to make 100

i think it turns out a lot of people didnt like halo as much as they liked games made by Bungie. It just so happened that Bungie was making Halo games, if that makes any sense

this

also from a lore and storytelling perspective, 343 obliterated what made the franchise interesting and unique.

Whereas before it was a fairly grounded sci-fi military story with some fantastical elements (like the Forerunners and Flood) tossed in, now it's just gone full generic space opera/sci-fantasy

I completely agree as the game is beyond stale. Multiplayer is kinda lacking and not enjoyable

well, I guess the first step is to take a good look at how the current system operates and decide which components can be reused and which should be replaced. hopefully it's not one of those god-awful opaque "all in one" solutions that force you to rely on the developer for everything

I would really avoid recreating your inventory database system if you can avoid it

So a front end PoS system integrated with a live database, built from scratch by one guy. Have they given you a timeline for this?

Just saying dude, if something like this came through my agency I'd be hesitant to even touch it for anything less than $30k, and that's with a LOT of assumptions.

Based on how you described it I wonder if they could just use Shopify or something.

50k for first roll out and another 45k for maintaining and updates. My year salary is 70.... so yea

Ah ok, that's decent.

I don't know if you have a lot of experience in this sort of thing but I highly, highly recommend you write out a fairly comprehensive scope of work to sign off on. A functional specifications document it's sometimes called.

Just an agreed upon list of technical points and how the thing functions. This would save you getting into too many situations where the client says "oh hey but it should really be able to do this also", without the client understanding that they just asked you to add on another 20 hours work.

Thanks as I've brought this up to my client and they are emailing me a document of what they expect. Like I said I have a decent history of coding, server operation and managing databases. What this seems to be is putting everything I know together all into one package.

I completely cloned gamefaqs twice in 2002 and again in 2006. Same with 2004-2006 Facebook but I'm sure behind the scenes was different.
