let's be real here: if you're going to nuke a country it f***ing better be one that can't do anything about it.
if he's targeting iran, i'm assuming that's probably part of the reason, to make sure they won't.

but i've no idea what the initial stuff was said or about. just that the idea of f***ing up that part of the world really isn't that rare of a belief. two most common i'd say are A) get out, leave it alone, if it destroys itself that's their problem not ours, and B) if they choose to bother us then f*** 'em, we'll finish what they started.

B gets you into issues of migrants, refugees, and pointing to our allies in europe. dunno what else prompts that response.

Well yeah. But the context(Which I admit I don't have the entirety of it) made it looked like he'd be okay with a country being nuked just because they couldn't do anything about it, rather than nuking a country out of necessity. Granted I'd be pretty hypocritical if I pretended that I didn't share the idea of "Wipe ISIS off the face of the Earth" after reading about one too many attacks from them, so I can't exactly say I'm utterly against violence.

Not to mention the quoted statement you allegedly made implied you'd be okay with just flatout nuking a country that couldn't do anything about it. Iran wasn't mentioned in said post.

That would probably be the reason people are mistaking the intent of your message, if they are indeed doing so.

And yeah those countries are perfectly capable of defending themselves.

I feel like you're contradicting yourself here. The other countries can't be weak without us, yet suddenly be a very real threat if we reduce military spending.

Out of curiosity, how old are you Seph? This isn't a setup to belittle you or anything.

Yeah I'm probably both naive and sheltered. I just think it's sad you'd rather maintain the status quo, than make things better. You're content with being on top, but afraid of the world, rather than being on top while actively improving things for everyone.

Additionally I'm a big fan of karma. If a country becomes tyrannical and evil, I absolutely approve of them paying for their actions. Yes, even if said country was my own. Evil shouldn't be tolerated, so it's better to not become evil than being the strongest evil.(If we're going to the tail end of the hypothetical)

And honestly you talk about the privilege of not having to be afraid of the consequences of our government going too far. This may step on some toes but... maybe we should be afraid.

Maybe Americans should seriously be concerned about the actions of their government and the consequences of said actions. Look at all the trivial s*** we bicker about("We" as in the country, not this board.). How much time and money did we spend on the transgender bathroom bulls***? The time wasted on Twitter s***posts by a thin skinned man. How up in arms people get when a football player doesn't pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth.

Perhaps if we all had something legitimately important to worry about, maybe we stop acting like children for 10 minutes when it comes to politics? Maybe we gain some much needed perspective on life.

So what you're saying SephG is that we need our bloated military budget because if our government does stupid and horrible things, people might be mad. So we need to be big enough to discourage any sort of serious consequence from occurring.

I'd rather we focus on improving our government over reinforcing their safety net for intentionally f***ing people over.

But honestly I feel your mentality is based off of fear. "If we don't spend all this money, we might possibly in the unknowable future have someone try to stop us from being tyrannical." You're basically supporting a system that will be a never ending drain on our resources because boogeymen will always be around the corner.

Nevermind the fact that ISIS is apparently more than willing to kill us. Nevermind that Trump considers NATO obsolete.

Do you honestly think that if we even took away 10% of our military budget and put it somewhere else, countries will suddenly start thinking "You know what? Now's the time to take down the USA?"

Our enormous military budget is the reason why you have privilege as an American for your government to make mistakes and do bad things sometimes without you suffering any consequences from other nations. You start cutting back and you risk giving up that power.

We are the strongest military force in the world. That's what they keep telling me anyway! Why will we suddenly become weak if we take a little out of our bloated military budget? Do we seriously need every penny in order to survive? If cutting back is such a risk, are we really that powerful in the first place?

Unless several of the largest countries attack us all at once, I don't see how a small cut will hurt us.

And yes I'm utterly against people acting against the health of children, but there is a difference between the people too dumb to realize the harm they're doing... and the people who don't care about the harm they know they're doing. I totally understand a lack of empathy for those who essentially made their own mess. I understand not feeling sorry for people who were foolish enough to fall for the obvious con. But here's the thing....

That sick enjoyment you get from seeing people get "what they deserve"? That smug satisfaction you get when their "god emperor" takes the money and leaves his supporters with the bill? That's the side of you that you shouldn't listen to you. "I told you so" doesn't help the country. It may make you feel better for a while, and trust me I'm a petty petty person who would love to be there when it all comes crumbling down, but it doesn't help anyone. If your goal is to make the country a better place, we can't afford to lose our empathy.

There are some people who don't deserve any empathy, but I reserve that for murderers, rapists, people who intentionally bring harm to other people for their own personal amusement/gain. Not people who were tricked by a conman.

Man. It's been nearly 15 years, I didn't think I'd be here for so long. I still vaguely remember what made me come to this site. Ocarina of Time, the game that I fell in love with(What a shocker!). I had just completed the dreaded Water Temple. I actually didn't have too much trouble with it(Or so says my memory), but I remember really really enjoying fighting the mid-boss there, Dark Link. That was part of how I got this username. The other part was wishing I could play at least one of the later dungeons as Young Link. Specifically the Forest Temple. I though Link and Seria made a cute little couple even back then.

How I came to B8 escapes me. I do remember the first contest however. How simple things were back then. How amazing it felt when I saw Mega Man not only win, but absolutely dominate the competition(Seriously 90% on TWO characters? Yes they were complete fodder but still!). Sadly his run ended at Sephiroth, but not before having one of the closest matches of that year. Had he won, his next opponent would have been Samus. It would have been very thematically fitting. I still remember that "Megaroth" picture that someone made when the match was so close we couldn't tell who Samus would be facing up against next. I would have loved to see 2002 Samus vs Mega Man. Both would have been on fire right after having very close matches. In the end I doubt either defeats Link, but a guy can dream.

There was a time I didn't stick around much after contest season. I was a "regular" but I wasn't a true B8er until I decided to stay during the off season. I don't remember when I did this, I don't remember why I did this. But I'm glad I did. I got the chance to interact with a lot of great people here. Things weren't always sunshine and roses, but overall I'd place this community as an overall positive impact on my life. Which is funny because there has been times where I felt like I was just... there. I wasn't very popular, nor have I been all that infamous. I've dabbled in a few "projects" but besides helping out with WDTL a few times I never really stuck to anything. I get bored easily I suppose.

I know I wasn't always the most pleasant user to put up with. I've said some s***, acted like a child at times, and yet most of you still give me the time of day. Thank you.
