Fran is the cheery voice you hear whenever you submit a report to the police headquarters. She’s bubbly, fun, and committed to her work. She’s another girl that Anton fell hopelessly in love with after she spent a day at the festival helping his find his wallet. Sadly for him, she shot him down, because the only person Fran loves right now is her big sister Noel. Pretty cute, but also a little bit sad. She’s a very attractive girl, with a very cute hairstyle, uniform and an unwavering optimism that melts the heart a little. I think she’s a bit too dense to break into the next tier, but she is still a very good girl.

This is another ranking that probably suffers because I haven’t finished 3rd chapter. I’ll get to it one day, but today is not that day. On looks and general attitude, Rufina is just as cute as her sister is, maybe more so. She wears a very modest outfit, but it accentuates her curves very nicely. She’s a peacekeeper, choosing to settle things through dialogue instead of force, and because of her uncanny ability to choose the best option out of thousands, she was given the nickname Thousand Arms. (Thousand Hand?). She’s also apparently a total badass in a fight, going toe to toe with Loewe, the standard by which all Trails Badasses are measured. I like her plenty, I just can’t put her higher than this without actually playing the games, because the other girls on this list leave a more indelible impact.

This is another waifu where pictures are hard to find, but at least there are some to go around. Rin and Eolia are a team, and while Eolia is the Arts user of the group, Rin likes to get up close and personal, using the Taito style to make quick work of her enemies. She’s smart, capable, and even teaches the SSS’ a few things about combat. She gets this far on her generally positive demeanour and her coolness. She kind of looks a little bit like the Major, so she gets a few points for that hahaha. All in all, just another solid waifu.

Fatma? She’s not fat at all! Horrible jokes aside, Missus Worzel is a very attractive woman, even after giving birth to four kids. That must just be the highland lifestyle for you. In any case, she plays a very minor role in the story, being a generally supportive mother for Gaius, and a good housewife for Lacan and the rest of their family. There isn’t much to say, and I can’t even find a picture of her, which is really lame. She's got plenty of experience being a good wife, which is more than most of the women on the list, and that's why I don't feel bad putting her this highly.

Two playable characters in a row, I’m a real savage aren’t I? Maybe part of this is me not completing third chapter, so I haven’t truly seen every facet of Ries. A lot of her dialogue isn’t translated in the Ao fan translation either so I can admit to saying that maybe she’s better than this. However I’ve basically got initial impressions to go on, and that’ll have to do. Design wise, she’s pretty great, her nun habit gives her that mix of demure yet alluring that’s just so appealing, and I’m a softy for redheads, so that’s another point in her favour. On the other hand, her personality seems sort of onenote and boring, and perhaps indicative of some sort of eating disorder? Maybe playing third would give me a better impression of her, since she is the heroine of that game.

Perhaps this one comes as a bit of surprise? In any case, it’s about this time PC’s start getting knocked down. Alisa basically gives a horrible first impression and spends most of the first game trying to repair that impression. She’s got a lot of family issues, considering her dad was the only sane member of their family, and he passed early in her life, I can see why she has certain social problems. She is very considerate of others despite her ice queen of a mother, and she does get over her tsundere act very quickly. There are lots of things I like about her Alisa, her design is super cute, she’s useful in battle as an all rounder and CP battery, and she does have a few nice scenes in the games, but there are also things I don’t like very much.

Her voice is grating, she’s standoffish and confrontational, and I don’t like how she’s sort of shipped as the main girl in ToCS, when Laura, Emma, Sara and even Fie have better chemistry with Rean than she does. Emma and Laura also make more sense from a general story point of few, even if Falcom wanted to pull off the “Alisa and Rean once met when they were younger BS”. All things considered she does average out to being a good waifu, but there are still many better options out there.

Speaking of women who blow me away, say hello to our little jaeger princess, Bloody Shirley. Shirley is the daughter of Sigmund, the new leader of the Red Constellation after the death of the War God. She’s been on the battlefield from a young age, and has a very twisted sense of right and wrong. She often searches for the most fun thing, and hates being bored, which is why she’s prone to stirring shit up, like provoking Randy, or dropping a chandelier on Ilya to get Rixia to fight her. After the events of Ao, she joined Ouroboros as Enforcer XVII, and it seems like she’ll be making an appearance in Cold Steel 3, which is really good. Personality wise, She’s not a winner. Her mannerisms make her cute, but also kind of terrifying. The reason why she is this high is because she’s exactly my preferred body type, with gorgeous red hair, a thin athletic body, and a happy go lucky smile that warms my heart even when I’m slightly terrified of what she’s doing. Lots of Good and Lots of bad, so it balances out to Good I guess hahaha.

Another Thors student bites the dust. Edel is very good looking, and the hat is assuredly a nice touch to her ensemble She’s the head of the gardening club, and she seems to be a positive influence on Fie. However despite her calm motherly appearance, she is supposedly an incredible fighter, and well trained with orbal staves. I wouldn’t know since Cold Steel’s difficulty curve can be broken like a twig, but I’ll take the game’s word for it. She’s a very soothing woman and I would be happy with her as a waifu, she just doesn’t blow me away.

Eolia (Aeolia?) is an admittedly minor character from Zero and Ao. She and her partner Rin are A rank bracers, because the bracer guild in crossbell does not mess around. She is from Remiferia, and has a high level of medical skill to go along with her general bracerly duties. She’s a very cute girl, although you don’t get a portrait of her in game, and she adores cute things to the point where she blocks out all else. The major target of her affections being Tio, naturally. I have nothing bad to say about her, the other girls on my list just have a certain panache to them.

And Collette gives us the very last of the alright waifus. Because right down to the heart of it, Collette is the very definition of alright. She’s generically cute, she’s a little scatterbrained, but not to an egregious extent, she enjoys shopping, she’s generally pretty jovial and friendly, and she cares about others. There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, but there’s nothing to make her special or amazing, to push her over the top. I like Collette a lot, but it’d be doing a disservice to put her above other more defined waifu candidates.

Vita Clotilde is the famous opera singer of the empire, a beautiful woman with an enchanting voice. She’s also Misty, the host of the Trista Radio show Abend Time, something young students can enjoy listening to while they study. Lastly, she’s the second Anguis of Ouroboros, the Azure Abyss. With a name like that you’d think she’d be in Trails to Azure, but nope. Hahaha. Anyway, she’s off playing a long con in Trails of Cold Steel 1, using her magic so the only person who would know who she truly is, is blissfully unaware of her existence. As far as looks go, she’s way up there, and the fact that she’s an accomplished singer is another big plus, normally a woman like this would rank much higher, but I have one big problem with her that puts her way down there.

She’s an idiot. She might come up with cunning schemes, but for an Anguis of Ouroboros, she’s easily manipulated, she does a poor job of keeping track of the megalomaniac she’s using to seed chaos in Erebonia, and she got outplayed by Rufus Albarea and the rest of the Ironbloods who honestly, didn’t even seem to be trying. For a grand schemer, she really doesn’t have great foresight, does she? Not to mention Osbourne stole her evil plan, that we still have no idea what she was trying to do. Perhaps Cold Steel 3 will clear some of this up but… Vita is just wasted potential for now.

We’re gonna have to change this to playable character once Cold Steel 3 comes out. I’m also cheating a bit when it comes to her age since she’s too young in Cold Steel 2, and her outfit was really really dumb. At least she gets something cute in CS3, and a very good hat. Anyway, Altina is some sort of artificial human in the same vein that Millium is. However her emotions seem to be a lot more deadpan and calm than whatever spastic mess Millium is. Through the events of the civil war she starts to show more personality, and even has a decent sense of black humour. She’s very cute, and i don’t mind waiting a few years for her to age up some more. Along with Rufus she was one of Osbourne’s spies within the noble faction, and thanks to her occasional meddling, Class 7 and their helpers were able to stop the Infernal Castle from sucking the lives out of everyone in Heimdallr. Altina is a good girl.

0079 (The classic, it's a little dated but still fun)
ZZ (Slow starter, but the second half is really great.)
G Gundam (Basically not a gundam, but a super robot anime with gundams)
Wing (Just for hilarity purposes only, everyone in that show is insane)
SEED (Might be one of the few, but I liked the drama, Kira actually had a good character arc before Destiny. Don't ever watch Destiny)
00 Season 1 (Because season 2 is cursed, but season 1 might actually be the best Gundam has ever been?)
IBO (Hit or miss, but worth giving it a try. I felt like it was really cynical compared to other gundam endings.)

There's also Zeta which while not consistently good had a lot of great moments in between.

A lot of this ranking is based on initial impressions, as it seems like Aurelia will become a more important character in Trails of Cold Steel 3 as the principal of Reeves Academy. Aurelia is a talented swordswoman, being a student of both the Arseid and Vander schools of swordsmanship (which are the only two western forms we know of). She aspires to be the strongest, and that means surpassing her teachers with the blade, Victor S. Arseid and Zechs Vander. She’s focused, serious, and one of the few women who can rock white/grey hair without looking like they’re in the later stages of their lives. She doesn’t care for politics, only for the thrill of battle. She may be a little too single minded to be a great waifu, but we could see Cold Steel 3 change that, after all, she could get sucked into Rean’s harem vortex.

Kilika has always had an air of mystery about her, from her very first appearance in Trails in the Sky, to her latest appearance in Ao no Kiseki. She’s a no nonsense woman with a lovely sense of style, and she’s trained in the Taito Martial Arts, like quite a few other characters on this list. On looks and style she ranks very highly, long black hair with a serious impression is always a good look, but she’s the kind of woman who will always be focused on other things and is married to her work. Whether it’s working as a bracer guild receptionist, or working as a chief intelligence operative for the Calvard Republic, she’s an ambitious hard working woman.

Annabelle is one of the funniest NPCs in Cold Steel. She lived a life of luxury as a noble woman but ran away from home when she heard that she was going to be forced into an arranged marriage. She spent all of her money and had to learn how to hunt and fish on her own. She managed to become quite the angler, to the point where she’s the person that you get fishing guild rewards from in Cold Steel 2 (until you find Kenneth). She’s feisty, funny, and pretty cute, so she does fairly well on this list. I don’t really have much negative to say about her, I just like others more.

Matron Theresa is not to be confused with Theresa from Cold Steel. She’s the mother of the Mercia Orphanage in Liberl, and she does a wonderful job raising the young children there into fine people. She’s sort of a surrogate mom for Kloe, who lost her own parents at a young age. She’s kind and gentle, but firm when she needs to be. Her character may be sort of one note, but it’s a good one note. She’s a bit older than what I’d like, but she’s a good woman through and through.

It’s everyone’s favourite sky pirate turned delivery girl, Josette! She’s lots of fun when she’s playing off Estelle and Joshua, and behind her no nonsense appearance she’s a very caring and sweet girl deep down. In combat… eh I never found her very good. Maybe she gets better later in third chapter, but I haven’t found any real use for her yet, and just replaced her as soon as I could. She’s apparently very good at domestic chores which is suppose to clash with her tomboyish appearance but I mean, who says guys can’t like a clean house and decent meals? She’s a former noble, but her brother was coerced into taking a bad deal and their family lost their lands. After the events of Sky, she and the rest of the Capuas got on the straight and narrow and are now delivering mail all across Zemuria. Josette is pretty cute, and would make an alright waifu, but we’d probably clash over dumb arguments all the time, and there are better looking ladies ahead. The top 50 is a good place to be though.

Jill is a fairly minor character in Trails in the Sky, but she has an important role in providing moral support for both Estelle and Kloe in the First Chapter, and provides a little bit of grounding for some of the ridiculous situations that the heroines get themselves into. She’s spunky, fun, and smart. Between her work for the Jenis student council and general outgoing demeanor, she’s a very sweet waifu. I’m not too hung up on her looks though, which is why she’s a bit lower than this sort of character would usually go. She’s nice looking, but not super nice looking.

Ah Elise. I think she has a lot of potential as a waifu, but it’s wasted on her silly crush on Rean. This isn’t like an Estelle/Joshua thing where the westermarck effect hasn’t taken place, but Rean and Elise are effectively brother and sister in the way they’ve been raised. To her credit, she just has some terrible enablers for friends and she knows her crush is stupid, but she still gets roped into crushing on her brother from time to time. Sadly, that crush is brought up basically every time she’s in a scene which sours her character a great deal. She’s cute, she can fight with a sword, and she’s polite and attentive, but she comes with a lot of baggage which sadly only makes her an alright waifu. Maybe she’ll get over her Rean Fever in Cold Steel 3.

Well we’ve made it to the halfway mark for NPC’s, and this dancer just misses the cut. Ilya is the main attraction and star of the Arc en Ciel performance troupe. A supposed genius on the stage, her artistry captures the hearts and minds of many people on the stage. Off the stage, we’ll she leaves a bit of a different impression. Her apartment is always a mess, she’s a heavy drinker, she sleeps like a slob, and she’s very pushy and demanding. She’s a beautiful woman, and definitely talented, but I feel like there are a lot of things that would need to be worked out before she could be a great waifu.

Julia is the original badass lady of the Trails series. Before Sara, before Noel, Julia was the coolest cat around. An apprentice swordsman under the great Cassius Bright, the leader of Liberl’s Royal Guard, and an all around good woman. She’s loyal, determined and incredibly tough, it’s no surprise that she has fans all over the world. She’s also the captain of the Arseille, which is just more bonus points. There’s a lot of things I like about her, but I can only put her this high because she is not an attractive woman. It may be shallow, but her appearance is rather plain and assuming, and it’s hard to be a great waifu if you aren’t at the very least physically attractive.

Sonya is the vice commander of the Crossbell Guardian Force, in Zero before getting a big promotion at the end of zero due to the actions of the former commander. She’s a cool headed and flexible leader, knowing when to rely on others for support, and knowing when to crack the whip herself. She’s has a nice style to her, the uniform and glasses are a really nice touch. She was originally married to the SSS director, but got divorced under uncertain terms (missing NPC chatter really means I miss the why of how this happened). She’s hyper competent and intelligent, which is a small yes for me despite being a bit older than what I usually go for.

Another ranking, another Thors Military Academy Student down. Mint is a budding engineer and flutist in the Wind Orchestra (school band, nothing absurdly prestigious haha). Mint’s main quirks are being cute, and making mistakes that put even the clumsiest of people to shame, like losing a watch on the very top of an antenna in a military base, or nearly blowing up the engine of a high powered airship. She’s the niece of an instructor and she spends a lot of her time trying to get him shacked up with another instructor in the academy (who has yet to be featured on this list). Anyway, I think she’s cute, but I think her clumsiness and happy go lucky attitude is probably a bad fit for me. I can imagine constantly losing my keys, or stumbling into disasters in the garage, etc etc.

Hello Villain. Scarlet is a very interesting character, trained by the church formally, she changed her allegiances quickly when the Ironblood Chancellor built a railway through her home. Vowing revenge, she joined the Imperial Liberation Front in an attempt to get revenge on the Chancellor. She has a very striking appearance, between her bright red hair, eyepatch and tattoos, she almost looks like a pirate, if it wasn’t for that Templar Sword she carries around. Her story is pretty tragic, but resorting to terrorism is never the answer. I think she’s a pretty woman, but she’s far too consumed by her revenge and too far gone to be anything more than alright as a waifu.

Dorothy is the scatterbrained reported for the Liberl News. Paired up with Nial for most of the game, she’s a wizard behind the camera, but hopelessly off base when it comes to everything else to the point where I wonder how she survived this long. Of course it could all just be an act and she’s actually frighteningly hyper-competent and she’s actually been the Grandmaster this entire time, but that’s silly. That’s a silly theory and you should pay it no mind. Anyway, she’s very cute, but I take points off for having the same name as my grandmother, as well as being completely clueless about a lot of things. She does get this far on her cuteness though, those freckles and that innocent smile are a big plus.

Lotte is the maid of the nobles dormitory in Trista. She doesn’t have a whole lot to her character other than a general congeniality and a desire to make delicious dishes for the students at her dorm. She’s decently cute, and she works hard so I have no objections to her as a waifu, there is just a lot of better girls to choose from is all.

Honestly these two kind of have to go together, so I’m lazily mashing their writeup together to save me some time. Emily and Theresa are members of the Lacross Club at Thors, and are the senior members to Alisa and Ferris. They’re basically always together, and a big part of getting Theresa onto the Courageous is bringing Emily over to convince her father to join the Thors Military Academy Gallivant Experience across Erebonia. Anyway the subtext is the two of them are more than best friends, so despite their attractiveness, I’m putting them in the lesbian basket. Theresa is the shy and demure one, while Emily is the fiery and outspoken one. They make a good couple, honestly.

Aina is the receptionist at the Bracer Guild in Rolent. She’s polite, well mannered, and resourceful, a perfect receptionist to serve the Bracers various needs. She was set to receive a massive inheritance from her grandfather, but decided to take a new path for herself, and donated her fortune to the Queen’s foundation instead of taking it solely for herself. She’s a decent looking woman, but my major downside with her is that she is a demon when it comes to drinking alcohol, barely fazed by amounts that would kill much larger men than I. Considering I’m such a lightweight, there’s zero chance anything would work between us. I wouldn’t even measure up as a man in her eyes. Hahaha.

Paula is… uh, I had to be honest I completely forgot about her when I was compiling this list, and it was just because I was browsing through the wiki I was like “oh yeah, she was in Cold Steel.” Considering she left that kind of impression on me, she wasn’t going to score very highly. She’s part of the riding club with Jusis, she’s not very good at what she does, but she’s learning. She’s kind of like a female machias, in that she hates Jusis for looking down on her, but she softens up a bit later. All in all… eh… not really feeling it. She's just a generic boring girl.

And it’s time to drop another Loli Playable Character. I cheated a bit, because Tita gets aged up in Cold Steel 3, and is pretty cute in that. I don’t hate anything about her personality, and she is squeezable and adorable, it’s just that Tita will always be young Tita to me, a little girl with a love of tech and a crush on a certain red haired bracer who’s denser than the sword he carries. She’s a very good little sister, and she’s one of the bravest characters in the series (standing up to Loewe takes serious guts), but just not the waifu for me. Maybe Cold Steel 3 will up her waifu points a bit.

Sully is a pretty fun character. You first meet her in Zero, and you think that she’s some kind of rabid fan of Ilya’s, because she’s been breaking into her apartment. Lloyd hatches a plan to catch her in the act and brings her to Ilya. Then it’s revealed that this despite looking like a boy, she’s actually a girl, and the reason why she’s resorted to stealing is because she’s from North Ambria, the saltiest place in the world. She was jealous of the glamour of the Arc en Ciel performances, and wanted some of that luxury for herself. Ilya takes her in to become an Arc en Ciel dancer, and it turns out her days of stealing have helped her flourish for the role. I still think she looks a little too much like a boy, even in her dancer costume, and her personality is basically very aggressive tsundere so she’s not winning points there either. Still she’s not a bad person, and her hat is one of the better accessories in Ao so… she’s not bad, just not a good waifu at her young age.
