That's the name of my D&D campaign I started earlier today at work. Someone said they wanted to hear how it went, so here we go, also I wanted to do something extra so the campaign will have a feature which you all can influence if you like, as DM I would welcome some randomness. I haven't gotten very far yet, so I'll post this to start off.

Back story: The campaign takes place on the island Kingdom of Desdia, which is roughly the size of California (I'll redraw my map and post it sooner or later). In the center of the country lies The Capital City, which is ruled by the One King, a mysterious entity who has reigned over the land for the last 1,000 years (give or take). For much of that time the land has been at peace and technological advances uncommon in typical D&D settings have been discovered like air ships and firearms, although being a feudal society has kept many things the same such as you would expect.

About five years before the start of the campaign (so year 897 New Era) a mysterious girl appeared from within the castle of the King and was dubbed the Crown Princess by His Grace. She quickly won the hearts of the common folk with her kindness, the aristocracy with her grace and intelligence, and the Powers (basically Dukes/Counts) with her demonstrations of the miraculous abilities only the King should have been able to use. If the people worshipped the King as their God, the Princess was their Messiah.

All signs were pointing towards an even brighter future for the land when one day the Crown Princess simply vanished. The King was heartbroken and retreated into his massive castle, ignoring all attempts to reach him, some even speculating that he had finally died. Whatever the case, he has not been heard from in all the years since. The Queen (the 63rd) tried to take over affairs in his place but met stiff resistance and dissident. Some of the noble houses sided with her in defense of the Throne, while others see this as their chance to finally gain more power, while the Powers, somewhat autonomous before, seek to further their own agendas and the commoners are restless.

Perhaps most frightening of all is a strange phenomena of which whispers can be heard in taverns now, but will soon enough will be shouted by city guards running in fear, the Blight. A dark substance which corrupts anything and everything, birthing monsters the likes of which have never been seen before.

Each day seems to draw the Kingdom closer to ruin, and perhaps the only person who can stop this is rotting away in a dark dungeon, awaiting her execution... Her name is Shea Mono.

Lmao, I would love a full report of you playing characters in a game you hand crafted yourself, roleplaying your own character (out loud, of course) to your own NPC (also out loud).

Alright when I get things finalized I'll keep you all updated on the campaign. I should be ready to go by tomorrow.

Uh, you probably should just let people play their own character.
Also lol, the highest Stat on the barbarian is Con.

I'm playing all of them simultaneously.
That was decided because I'm the type who would sacrifice pure optimization for flavor. Blackwood is actually pretty petite and even her STR of 14 would be comically unlikely from someone her size. The CON being so high shows how ridiculously tough she is though. Honestly I spent a ton of time trying to even find the right class for her, and Barb might not be it. What would you make someone who is very strong and tough, but also intelligent/savvy enough to make gnome style mechanical inventions but who hates magic? I mean I don't want to minmax, but I don't want to get murdered by a couple of goblins either, so I need a balance.

shadowsword87 posted...
You sort of passively mentioned Malfunction Rolls, are you saying that if you roll badly on damage, you get a cumulative -1 on damage? Because no, stop that. I imagine you're trying to go for a weapon degredation feeling, but holy poop that's awful.
Melee people are going to be doing badly soon enough anyway when casters are passively throwing around Lightning Bolt's, and then they get screwed harder and have to remember a bunch of floating numbers? Nope, that's going to be forgot so much, nobody wants that.

Also, I think your Stat generation is off, humans get a +1 to all stats, and the barbarian has an 8, which using standard point buy (which is what I imagine you did, or some sort of array), you literally cannot start out with a 7. So somethings off.

I would also recommend giving the players the magic items through the game, rather than starting out.

I just meant on critical misses, which regardless of anything happening to the weapon, I will make sure something bad happens to the character one way or another. Maybe the weapon gaining a "damaged" counter on an attack roll of 1 and say 5 counters rendering the weapon worthless, unless it's repaired by someone before reaching that point could work?

I used the point buy system plus Variant Human, so I think everything checks out as far as stats go, although I'm sure there are some technical errors in there somewhere.

I'm most worried about how the early game will go, and for back story/flavor reasons I want them to have the items early, maybe not right out of the gate, but early.

PMarth2002 posted...
The barbarian's weapons suck. using a lightning bolt disables the combat for 4 turns? Shooting the crossbow makes it more likely to malfunction? The claw-hammer malfunctions 10% of the time in exchnage for being able to turn into a great axe or hammer? Fuck that noise.

Yeah, looking at it, I went a bit too hard at trying to show her weapons are highly experimental. Ok, when in Hammer mode, the Claw Hammer is just normal, but when it transforms a percentile roll is made and on 04 or lower it shocks her for, I dunno, 1d12 damage? When in Claw mode it does an additional 1d4 Lightning damage (for, I dunno a max of 8 turns before it loses it's charge) but on a critical miss it shorts out and shocks her for the same. As for the X-Bow, change the "malfunction rate" to 1 point for each bolt shot, so shooting one would be the same as shooting a normal crossbow. If she shoots all four bolts at once there would be a 20% chance for it to... Just not fire? Like she would waste her turn. With the Lightning Bolts a critical miss/malfunction would do the self shock thing (1d12) but never disable the weapon. I'll just make the LBs rare or something.

Thanks for the feedback peeps.

Well three characters and a Lawful Evil Fairy for light scouting/rogue stuff.

It seems most campaigns and stuff like CR is balanced for at least four characters, and beyond that there are a number of different roles a party pretty much needs to excel, like a rogue. I made up the three main characters, and gave them some homebrew stuff to try and balance things out and cover all of the major bases, but without being too cookie cutter/spread thin. Do they look alright so far?

I'm going to do some work on this later, but still give me some feedback if you can.

Huh, what a neat little feature.

Anyways, you should go down south where they have wild hog problems. Large, violent, deadly, creatures who the government will pay you to put down, with very few restrictions. If you were looking to fight other people, try a county that still allows duels, as being hired as a proxy/stand in is a thing that you could get paid for.

If you want to stay in a "civilized" country try, putting an ad on Craigslist or in your local newspaper. I'm not sure if the magazine "Soldier of Fortune" is still around, but put an ad in there if it is, or whatever zine has taken it's spot.

Not only does the song just sound really good, the lyrics are so nuanced and meaningful that it really make me think that Infinite will be a deep and interesting character. It also hints at something of a mystery, could he be another character behind that mask?

I am the tallest of mountains
I am the roughest of waves.
I am the toughest of terrors
I am the darkest of days.
I'm the last one that's standing
Don't try to stand in my way.
'Cause I've been up against better
Just take a look at my face.
'Cause if you're messing with me
I am a dangerous weapon.
I am the sharpest of blades
I'll cut you down in a second.
'Cause I was born in this pain
It only hurts if you let it.
So if you think you can take me
Then you should go and forget it.
And after all this time, you're back for more! (I won't stop until they know my name.)
So I'll take what's mine and start this war! (I'm coming at you like a tidal wave.)
When everything you know has come and gone! (You are at your lowest, I am rising higher!)
Only stars remain all through it all! (We'll fight in the ashes, you're losing the fire!)
When there's no one left to carry on! (This is an illusion open up your eyes and!)
This pain persists, I can't resist!
But that's what it takes to be Infinite!
So look around you and tell me what you really see!
I never end and that's the difference in you and me!
'Cause when your time is up and everything is falling down
It's only me and you, who is gonna save you now?
So look around you and tell me what you really see!
You live a lie and that's that difference in you and me!
I have the power let me show you what it's all about!
It's only me and you, who is gonna save you now?
(Who is gonna save you now?)

So before the eye exam they did the thing where they blow air in your eye to test whatever. On my right eye the chick didn't even warn me so while they got a good reading I kinda freaked out a tiny bit. On my left eye then, I kept blinking so much that I got an eyelash in my eye or something that made me tear up badly.

Right after that they did the eye exam, and I tried to tell the "doctor" about it but she went ahead anyways. My right eye went fine, but on the left she had to do the "does 1 or 2 look better?" thing like three times because my vision was messed up.

Then the receptionist told me they wouldn't be ready for a few days ("wtf they're normal glasses" I said to myself) and I left. Right after I got home the chick calls me and tells me they're ready, with no explanation as to why she said what she said an hour earlier. So when I went all the way back and picked them up, I was peeved and the place closed in 10 minutes, so I just grabbed them and left.

Trying them on now, the left lens is noticeably worse than the right and it gives everything a blurry afterimage, it's bullshit and worse than the old pair I was replacing.

How do I go about complaining to get my money back/the glasses redone? The service and product was/is bad enough to warrant at least that much.

So I went over to my G.ma's to clean the basement for her since my brother left it a mess when he moved out a few weeks ago, whatever.

I found a rectangular silver coin thing in his stuff. It had an inscription that said something along the lines of "happy retirement, love," and a bunch of names. Below that it said ".999 sterling silver, 10 troy ounces".

I should have been able to put it together in a second, but I took it too my G.ma instead. My G.pa was the manager of some bank in town for a number of years and it was a gift from his retirement, obviously.

So now I made my G.ma sad by showing her my brother is a thief and I cheated myself out of what the internet is telling me would be worth about $160. Now it's just going to sit in a box somewhere collecting dust.

Why? I have carried swords a lot. To classes, sparring, tournaments, RenFest, sword dancing, stage combat.

Unless you are carrying your gear from your car to a class, show, or exhibition, why would you even want to carry a sword?

As a symbol of my "kingship", my noble destiny.

But you aren't a king and you don't have a noble destiny.

Actually, for your information I am a king, seriously.
...Onomastically anyways.
Also my destiny is a thing of grand proportions, you can not see it because your eyes simply can not comprehend it.

As for the question of if I'm trained with a sword, heh, obviously.

I made one out of wood and practiced in my basement while watching tutorials from YouTube. I broke a light and put a hole in the ceiling, but it was worth the experience.

he also liked Disney cartoons and dogs

Both very good leadership qualities, as we all know. Do you think I'm a fucking fool?

I very seriously don't know what you're on about with this post. Might be because I'm up past my bedtime, but still.
