He is retired, so sanctioning him won't really impact him the way it should but it should still be done. He should essentially be excommunicated from the chess world at the minimum. He is scum. But for his baseless accusation and continued toxicity, Danya would still be with us. Last night I watched the whole 2.5 hour interview Danya did six months ago and found him to be very candid and open about what he had been dealing with. It's just clearer to me that he was a chess player first who turned to the internet to spread his love for the game. I don't believe he was ready or fit mentally for the toxic feedback he received in return from a small, but vocal amount of people, led by someone he used to trust and respect. Kramnic got to him, the trolls that used Kramnic for attention got to him, and then I believe he spiraled and ultimately he got to himself. It's such a huge loss for his family and close friends first but also to the chess community as a whole. I feel like we just dont know that much right now and will likely get more info early this week. In a case that looks so clear cut its also unusual to not talk at all once you have a lawyer. One of the things the lawyer would try to do is work out a deal to get favorable treatment in sentencing or to get the death penalty off the table. It might not happen until later, after he has been formally charged, but typically a prosecutor will work with the defense to try to help speed things up so long as the client agrees. Another factor to consider is that the state may not be telling the full truth or is purposely saying that he isnt cooperating as part of their negotiation strategy. A bail hearing is used to determine if a person can be released while the process is playing out and isnt available in all circumstances (atty or not). I dont know anything specific about Utah but I wouldnt be surprised if he was ineligible for bail because I imagine he has been initially charged with a capital offense. (Bail is also different from a bond but I get what you are asking). I havent heard anything about his legal counsel but the quote about him not cooperating suggests he is getting some legal help, likely from a PD at this point. Its still early. The state filed initial charges, justifying their ability to arrest and jail him but they also do a massive investigation in a case like this and will likely file formal charges based on what they learned. That will be followed by an arraignment (where he will make his plea). This is why they are saying he isnt cooperating. He isnt answering questions or helping in their investigation. We will learn more this week but him being denied bail isnt anything unusual. I watch the World Cup and I watch the Euro's. That is it. Don't follow a league or teams but if I did watch I think I would follow the Premier League. Feels like it would have deeper competition and more overall quality. Like yeah I get La Liga has had more winners in Champions League over the last like 15 years or something but it is a top heavy league is it not? Same with France and German leagues. Like their top teams are really good but as an entire league it isn't as close. They generally know right from the start who is winning the league that year more often than not. You pretty much get it. The leagues have different styles of play and referring too. The Spanish and Italian leagues are much softer and the players are more dramatic. Just annoying to watch imo.
