Mena has been killing it with Blanka for a while now. he won the last 2 Evo Japans as well as this NA Evo. its not like this is the first time hes been dominant.

speaking of, are there any unite attacks worth looking into? ones that clear packs of enemies easily perhaps? I brought Hix and Tengaar but their unite hurts Hix (Tengaar stays sucking). I was going to try Chaco and Sid (presuming they have one) but saw that Sid starts battles asleep. everything Im finding seems to be single target.

yeah, Im early but I think I prefer the war battles of S1 just for their simplicity. there wasnt really much to them but it was fun to see your team power up over time.

not really. I have the original and its a couple of scenes here and there, nothing Ill talk about in this thread. theres a brutal superboss and maybe some backstory on some of the villains. its been like 20 years.

Ive emulated SH2 before. it works okay but you cant frameskip well if I remember right

it would be nice to not be bound to level requirements, yeah. a rom hack has to be out there that addresses that issue.

though, I do kinda like the feedback that im under leveled as compared to bashing my head against it. maybe a better solution is to just double the exp tables.

its funny, I was playing it and died within like 30 seconds. I was like, when did turtles turn into double dragon 3?, and then I realized that it was from doing special moves. like, I was so incredulous it was happening that I had to make stuff up in my head to bridge the gap. I cant believe they made that choice.

Id love a romhack that changed the way damage was calculated in Crystalis just slightly. Im fine with having to switch elements because a monster is immune, but sometimes you straight up cant damage them with anything until you level up more and it feels arbitrary. Make it hard but possible to keep going without having to grind and it would be a better game.

swapping swords with L/R would have been an obvious choice, I think, and you can remove equipping the level 2/3 orbs altogether. I agree that the level requirements for hurting enemies is antiquated and wouldnt mind that being fixed. but yeah, thats what I mean about the nes holding the games design back somewhat.

tmnt2 is sorta monotonous, yeah. if youre playing solo you kinda accept that. that game is meant for multiple people and the low entry bar works in its favor for that.

I was raised on that game in the arcades so I have a soft spot for it, and that soft spot kinda fades when playing the nes version. its good, but yeah not much of a standout if youre just walking through it and using the same move over and over while playing solo.

I threw it on when I was doing some quick research and just didnt like it at all. you lose life for using your special moves! thats an instant turnoff for me

As someone who has played a lot of NES games within the last year, somewhere between 60-70, what makes SMB stand out is the tight controls that I feel no other similar games had to the same degree for some years to come. It holds up extremely well compared to the average NES game imo. Personal preference is of course another thing. Though let's not act like rating the 2D Marios high on NES is something unique to this site lol.

I actually dont subscribe to this. the momentum of the jumping in Mario 1/Lost Levels is something I find a little maddening. its functional but not fun. Mario 3 completely fixes this and Mario 1 is still better than a lot of nes games, but its not the gold standard for me.

yeah the mechanics of each card are totally different but it works. multiplayer too.

ah, I could be wrong. I remember hearing negative things and thought it was due to the leveling systems, but its been a while.

It might also be held back for a later preview cycle. you know how this goes!
