I just finished all the Gears and Gambit missions on Hard. Funnily enough it's a lot easier if you play the game on Easy difficulty. I just copied a build from a Youtube video and one shot everything.

They added a slider for that at some point so you don't actually have to change game difficulty.

The key to G&G Hard mode is realizing that anything besides attacking is a waste of time. Like you think you need to be healing on one's where you have limited units, but nah.

It has a over the lifebar when they can't be damaged. The transitions can happen before that point, I think. It's less likely to waste damage if you're not seeing that than you think.

My observed experience is that new players may like Remake early on but they check the fuck out eventually.

Perfect blocking alone makes Rebirth more fun than Remake on the combat front.

You really don't actually play any of these games anymore.

I haven't played an open world Ubisoft game since AC3 so I can't say how they've evolved since then. But I can say it's not nearly so "search every square inch for hidden bullshit" as that, or a Rockstar game, or any other open world game I can think of. Like at all.

Oh also Summon fights are Synced to your level in the game, so straight grinding means very little.

Not trying to brag. Most if not all of them weren't first try. All I'm saying is that what the Assess info tells you is pretty important in those fights. Moreso than most normal fights. But I had a way easier time with Summons than I did in Remake.

Alexander and Odin were particularly shaky, though.

I was able to take out any summons at lowest level without any grinding. (Including the Gilgamesh double summons.)

It works as described in Normal. And I'm not sure it does Level III in Normal even if you don't cripple the chest. I remembered having some room to stand.

I figured out a work around but man that's stupid.

I get if they wanted us to deal wih an unavoidable attack, but having it trigger instantly by doing the very thing that is supposed to stop it is so bad. Just remove the chest as a weak point if that's what they want to do.

Also he got it off one more time when Yuffie didn't have the ATB to cast Manawall so I tried to heal through it which was pointless. I had Reraises up just in case but that was a waste of 19 MP I should have not used.

You can just dive jump into most levels with B twice. Nothing fancy there.

Decent chance you've done it yourself without thinking about it.

Is the Red Dragon fucking broken in Hard mode? I instantly cripple the Chest and immediately get Crimson Breath III despite it literally supposedly being prevented by doing that.

Easily the fastest solve in 4 I've done without an actual mistake.

I actually figured out how mushroom pulling is supposed to work the second time around. The game does not properly convey what they want from you.

You partially pull the stick and see which one reaches the edge first, because most of them do in fact go all the way to the same "edge".

A lot of stories feel amazing when you put them next to FFXIII.

Really the suddenness of PS1 FFs late game plot points is probably less about actual artistic direction and more about time and/or money. FF8 just comes off a bit weirder for it.

The absurdity of space in FF8 in no way has to do with it being impractical technologically. But if someone rings my doorbell right now and tells me it's time to go to space, I'll be a bit taken aback to say the least.

Not exactly. The Giant of Babil comes from the moon before that happens. Plus the actual crux of the plot comes from the Lunarians.

I mean no one's bad at using it. They're "bad" at setting it up, but all being "good" does is save time. I put those in quotes because it's knowledge not skill dependent.

Actually I was wrong. It's a good story through Disc 1.

The Junction system was always terrible.

FFVIII is a good game if you stop after Disc 1.

Paine replacing Lulu isn't that crazy because Lulu would have never gone along with half the shit they do.

Did they say Lightning time travelled? I was under the impression they were trying the "digital actress" thing again. Either way it's the clear winner.

I don't care how long it is, but not having a checkpoint after Bizarro or whatever they call him here was baffling. I was also really confused because it didn't look like I was doing anything during the last attack so I waited it out but you die for that.

Yuffie and Cait Sith are just a million times better than their OG versions.

Rosa can be Tifa or Yuffie if they're your date, otherwise the role defaults to Aerith. Other than that it's only very minor things until the actual Skywheel.
