Some rambling thoughts on them.

1 - Really by the book for copying the original series besides some obvious things such as the water being red. Surprisingly enjoyable though. I also think it had the best use of the 3D effects in the entire series when they were showcasing how they were getting all the power infrastructure to one location.

2- Probably my favorite movie of them. A nice blend of the old series while putting in new stuff. The ending is favorite moment in the rebuild series.

3- I like the idea of starting starting in a timeskip, but I don't think its partially well done. The combat scene at the start of the movie is really long and a boring ass 3D that kind of looks like a fan project. Shinji in the ruins of the old NERV base and his interactions with Kaworu are really well done though. Also, it seems like a lot of the plot develops because characters turn into idiots (I know the characters are supposed to be mentally unstable, but they really push some believably). I can't believe the crew of the Wunder after 14 years had no good plan what to do with Shinji if they ever found him, they kind of just let him wonder around without telling him much, a perfect recipe for disaster.

4 - The slice of life first hour of the movie was really good. Everything after Gendo starts the 4th impact to the ending is great too. I'm glad they finally went deep into Gendo's psyche, since it isn't really explained much in the TV show or End of Evangelion. The battle scenes are kind of let down once again, the 3D animation doesn't fit well and looks rather amateurish for the most part when it really focuses on the 3D aspects. Its almost like they didn't add the mass produced Evas from End of Evangelion because they knew they couldn't live up what was perhaps the best animated fight scene in animated history.

Mari - For the most part it seems like she was thrown in and just kind of there and wasn't really important until near the very end of 4. Her and Shinji being together at the end was nicely done, but I wish she had a bit more background story.

Fanservice - They really went crazy with this. It almost seems like its parody level sometimes. They seem to show the characters naked as much as possible even when then is no reason for it. Its especially jarring since these movies were made by the same guy who made the infamous hospital scene in End of Evanglion. Really weird to go from that to having the camera focus on Asuka's crotch while she's trying to sleep for no reason.

Was it originally intended to be a true rebuild of the TV series? - I'm curious if the movies were originally intended to actually being a retelling of the original show, especially since 1 is very much a remake of the first few episodes besides a few differences like the red water. My guess is the red water was to show this all happened after the OG 3rd impact from End of Evangelion and things somehow repeat. The 4th movie kind of destroyed this theory though since they explicitly say it was from the 2nd impact which "cleansed the oceans". I'm glad they went the route of changing things up after 1, but I'm curious if that was always the plan.

Has nothing to do with climate change this time around. It's mostly bad city planning and the complete drainage of the natural lakes. The city is also sinking because all the water underground is mostly gone now.

Mexico City is poorly designed but climate change is making it even worse.

Comedy movies in theaters.

Kind of interesting how this genre of movie is basically extinct. I'm guessing its just easier nowadays to look up something online for a quick laugh. It is a lot easier for amateurs to make a comedy video than a drama video.

Not sure if this has to do with tensions boiling over between Egypt and Israel or if it was some friendly fire incident between Egypt and Israel because of all the things happening in Rafah recently.

He's probably exaggerating or he doesn't know how to properly estimate height. Not that odd, since most men say they are taller than they actually are so perceptions are messed up. I'm 6 ft 2 with shoes on its not odd for people to think I'm 6 ft 4.

Not really related but something that drives me crazy is that the last known Tasmanians Tiger died in captivity from fucking exposure

I just looked up the zoo where the thylacine was at and it apparently closed down a year after it died due to financial problems. It sounds like the the zoo was understaffed and the poor thing died because no one checked on it when the weather was getting bad.

Have any of these ID laws been actually enforced? From my understanding only a few big name sites have voluntarily blocked their websites in states with these laws and porn is still easy to find online.

It is a mostly an average game, but the atmosphere is great. The castle is one of the coolest places to explore in video games if you are a Harry Potter fan. If you are a Harry Potter fan I would recommend the game, but don't be a completionist trying to do all the repetitive side quests.

I haven't heard anyone in real life talk about this bear thing. It sounds like a terminally online thing.

Being that tall does suck, but the "miraculous ability to avoid injury" makes it much more bearable. You would only be annoyed by being too big for the world. You wouldn't need to worry about the health consequences most super tall people face.

Both died in the same enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo in a pagoda style building. The pigeon died in 1914, the parakeet in 1918. I'm not sure if this building (now serving as a memorial) is only a replica or if it a surviving part of the original building.

The Cincinnati Zoo is also where Harambe was shot. Kind of weird one zoo is home to perhaps the three most infamous deaths of a zoo animal.

Haven't been to one in probably well over 10 years. I remember it being ok but nothing special.

The main reason George Floyd's death became a national thing is because it happened during the Covid quasi-lockdowns and a lot of people had cabin fever. Also, a significant amount of people were not working (or working much less than usual) so they had time to protest. If Covid never existed, most people in America wouldn't even know who George Floyd is.

"My god, it's full of stars" is associated with the movie 2001, but the phrase is only mentioned in 2010 (and the novel of 2001).

I think part of the issue is more video games nowadys have skinner box designs which can be addicting and will attract a large audience because of their addicting nature. This is really common on mobile games.

The thing about a Chinese invasion of Taiwan is that we'd know years ahead of time that it was coming. The scale of the buildup needed is just not something that can be hidden.

I don't think it would necessarily be years, but there certainly would be a huge buildup at least for months.

Yeah, old heads can crow all the day about how the best back in the day could win it all alone, but they are either misremembering the old days or thinking of 70-100 years ago when athletes were so much less athletic that one genetic freak could actually win a team sport alone.

Yeah. Wilt Chamberlain proves you can't just win basketball by simply having one player leagues ahead of most of the competition. He only ever won 2 championships because he usually faced more complete teams like the Celtics.

They get stuff wrong all the time, they literally had an Italian guy go "It'sa me! Mario!"

They even make fun of the inaccuraces in the game's own lore. The Animus not synching correctly with actual historical events.

Feels like grasping at straws to be mad about this.

Having a punch up with pope Rodrigo Borgia is fine but the seating and lighting is all wrong.

There is always a suspension of belief for story related stuff. The past AC games were praised for their extreme attention to detail in the landscapes and how the world looked. Paris and Egypt were really well done in that regard (I'm sure they had errors too of course).

Essentially, world building was important to try to remain as close to historically accurate as possible (although they started adding in mythological stuff with Origins) while story stuff used history as a basis to create crazy plots.

They may be slipping recently. Supposedly the map of England's towns/cities in AC Valhalla is from a different time period than what the game is set in. I can't really comment on the accuracy of that statement since I've never played the game and I'm not really familiar that English history at all.
