It's mostly an aesthetic thing which, imo, is a gross reason to do it for. Tho my friend's pit had such a strong tail whenever it would get excited he would wag it so hard it would hit a wall and blood would start spurting out the tip. He never got it cut but he did train the dog to wag it's tail less hard. Dunno how he did that but he doesn't bleed from it anymore. I could see someone cutting it for that reason tho.

Spiderman 2 is far from boring

Everything after the first act is mostly boring. Especially coming off of Ratchet and Clank which was 100x more fun and engaging.

From the sounds of it, it seems like the game is visually stunning but the gameplay is boring. Which is basically every first party AAA title nowadays.

Exploring and fighting mfs. There's a bunch of things around the map to explore. I find it worthwhile to check around, a lot of other players disagree tho.
